Steward's Comments:

Nice job everyone!

Cheers,

OLR Team.

Important notices:
To streamline the WRS administration process, all required replays for this race must be submitted within 7 days. This thread will be listed as "Provisional" and will become "Official" once all posted replays have been verified. After 7 days, all drivers who fail to provide a requested replay will have their lap disqualified. (Beware: disqualification isn't taken lightly within the WRS.)
Drivers who do not have a submitted lap posted in the results are not to post any information related to a laptime they might have achieved in the results thread. Any such posts will have the times removed.

Replay Verification Requests:
This week we would like to see replays for all indicated results. All replays are to be posted here.

Instructions on how to upload your replay can be found here - https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showpost.php?p=3180607&postcount=2

bflagtp3.gif
shows that the replay has not been provided in due time.

Replay Checking:

  1. It is customary for all participants of the WRS to verify each others submitted replays
  2. Once you have checked the replay, post in this thread to say that you have checked it and whether it's clean, dirty or doesn't meet the required race specifications
  3. When verifying a replay, check against this weeks race specification, check that the tyres are the correct compound and that the power and weight is correct for example
  4. If you are unsure about a replay, always seek a second opinion before posting

Congrats BanditKarter!!! AWESOME time.

Question: where are the rest of division 5 peeps? I can't be the only one :grumpy:

Replay as soon as 8yr old gets done with Just Dance 4. :sly:

Here's my replay. Congrats all. Amazing times out there. Looking forward to the Academy race on Saturday.

Congrats all, good times on the board there, Im surprised I still made a good negative being 1.9 secs off the pace.

Looking forward to the video John, I was learning how to go fast here the few stints I had, and just yesterday I found a better faster way to get out of the first tunnel, was ahead of my ghost by loads so def more time there to be found, I guess next time we TT around here I'll be slightly better prepared.

My Replay later:

Time Trial in Arcade Mode

I thought it was in Practice Mode? At least that's how I did this.

Division 3:

4---1'24.886---GTP_iainoflo (Replay Needed)

I understand this. But there's other bits that I don't understand (see below).

>> Division 3: Par: 1'23.902 Gold: 1'24.246 Silver: 1'24.651 Bronze: 1'25.117
15--1'24.886---GTP_iainoflo r=3.835 (d3/0.648)
16--1'24.898---GTP_Sjaak r=3.843 (d3/0.213)

Here I'm listed above GTP_Sjaak (forgive me for using you as an example, but you were right below me/above me on the Leaderboard).

Handicapped Results:
15--1'21.621---(0.21321)---GTP_Sjaak
16--1'21.734---(0.37237)---GTP_Rossi
17--1'21.863---(0.55421)---GTP_Patrick1
18--1'21.929---(0.64840)---GTP_iainoflo

But here you're listed above me. This is where I'm now confused. I don't understand what the handicaps mean.

Can someone help clear up my confusion - either link a post that explains the handicap business or explain it so that I can understand what this means for me - am I competitive for my Division Placement or not (simply what I need to know)?
Will post my replay after my bob has finished his 9 hour enduro - will be in about an hour. Provided I can work out what I need to do.

1. This thread explains replay uploads: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?p=4775759#post4775759

2. You're above Sjaak because you put in a faster time. He was above you in the leaderboards because his first 3 sectors were faster. But obviously your T4 was faster by a greater amount than he was ahead.

The bit with par times etc. on is what division your time placed in. For example BanditKarter put in a D1 time, but is in D2. The bit in brackets is the time he beat his handicap by.

e.g.

>> Division 3: Par: 1'23.902 Gold: 1'24.246 Silver: 1'24.651 Bronze: 1'25.117
15--1'24.886---GTP_iainoflo r=3.835 (d3/0.648)

You were outside the your handicap time (time calculated through sums calculated by your relative time in the qualifier) by 0.648.

3. The third bit is the times with the handicap applied. Basically, whoever beats their handicap by the most wins the handicapped results.

Hope this helped. :)

Yeah, I managed to upload my replay okay.

I think I understand the rest of it. But what relevance does the handicapped results have on the overall results? I guess I should be aiming for a -(negative) handicap score if I want to advance. Do I go down if I don't improve?

And I presume that Sjaak is above me on handicapped results because he beat his Qualifier handicap and I didn't.

I guess I was thinking I was doing rubbish because my splits were so far off the top time. But from my understanding this is pretty good for my first week, and I don't feel like I am in the wrong division now.

(This is my first week, so forgive me for asking all this, but I won't need to ask again next week  if I can understand it this week. I don't need formulas and math to understand, so thank you Ford.)

I'm as lost as iainoflo85 and aside from figuring out that I was way too slow I have not the first clue what all that stuff actually meant in the results table.

It would be really good if someone could point me at a handy-dandy results guide for dummies write up. I think some of my questions are even more basic like;

How did the divison par times get allocated?
How did my handicap get calculated?
What relevance does my qualifier handicap and this TT handicap have and how are they used, especially for the results.

Now I feel extra dumb and slow....not a great day so far :(

p.s. replay will be posted later today

Great fun combo this week, cheers!
Congrats to all the division winners and podium placers. Some great times on the board, especially banditkarter - I wouldn't have thought under 1'22 was even possible. Did you (or are you) taking part in gt academy? (I haven't really been following it so not sure if its finished lol.) but that's seriously quick!

Was quite pleased with my lap, wanted to get into the 22s - had a 22.968 but was dirty on the second turn after a close look :(

Hey iainoflo85 and argon56, Im not really 100% sure on the handicap system in terms of how often it updates or is calculated - either after every event or a promotion. But if you look in the handicaped results, the number in brackets is either positive or negative.
This is based upon your original qualifying time and where you ranked in terms of division and gold/silver or bronze in that division in the qualifyer.
If your lap time in the current event is better than what was expected of a driver in your division and class (with your qualifyer time) you get a negative handicap (indicated by a negative number) or if you didn't perform as expected a positive number. The handicapped results are ranked in order of who performed the best in terms of beating their handicap i.e where they were expected to finish, based on their qualifyer time. Hope this helps mate.
(Also you can view all the handicaps if you go into the live leaderboard, click on the division icon next to someone's name - and it brings up a list of every driver registered and a number in brackets which is their handicap.)

Cheers

I'm OK with that bit but am struggling to figure out how it is actually used in each event.

But if you look in the handicaped results, the number in brackets is either positive or negative.

I see that I ended up positive which is fine, I know it was not a good time but how did my number get calculated? Is it a time differential or some numeric factor that gets used in a formula. If it's a time differential what is the time I'm being measured against? If it's a numeric factor how is it derived?

I can see that my placement handicap is being quoted but I just don't see how it's being applied. I know I'm being really dumb here but......

It helps a little but as I said I think my questions are a bit more basic and I just want to try and understand how it all gets calculated.

I should also say that I'm not in any-way disputing the numbers of even arguing against them I'm just really interested to understand the mechanics. So that I don't keep hijacking these results thread to ask a bunch of annoying questions that you guys seem to have endless patience with.

BTW Lou8ball that was a storming time 👍

Im probably not the best person to tackle this, but Im not really sure if many know how its calculated other than Vaxen.

I think for working out the respected division times, i.e what someone in division 2 silver should aim for is calculated in a formula using the posted split times for people in that division and class over the week. (I wouldn't hold me to that though I just remember someone posting it before).

That's all I know really, sorry. One of the racers who has been here longer will know more though.

I just try to go as quick as I can and hope for a negative handicap! Lol

Lol, seems like good advice.

Maybe one of the co-ordinators will pick up my questions. Thanks for the assist though Lou8ball, really appreciated

Here's a post which will probably confuse more than enlighten, but it does, and the following answers do, reveal some of the mechanics behind the handicap system. It seems this discussion is a recurring theme.

The other point Iain raised was Practice contra Arcade mode. I too did this in Practice mode - the current Fuji TT is in Arcade mode. Here's the original thread:

...*clip*...which will probably confuse more than enlighten,..

Thanks Alan but it does, lol.

I think I'm down to one basic area of enlightenment needed.

My result this week looked like;
12--1'24.198---GTP_Argon r=3.287 (d3/0.957)

My burning question.....where does 0.957 come from? I guess the bit in brackets is telling me that my handicap has increased, as indicated by r=3.287, and I'm now sitting on a d3 rating unless I do something like go faster lol

Your current handicap is 2.33 - I'm guessing that your 3.287 is your current handicap plus your handicap for this TT which is 0.957.

So 2.33 + 0.957 = 3.287

The 0.957 is how much over par you were for this TT.

0.000 is intended to be a theoretical minimum possible time.

The handicap is calculated as follows:
step 1: take the fastest 50% of the submissions
step 2: find the mean and standard deviation of this subset
step 3: two standard deviations faster than this mean is the "zero par"
step 4: zero par is assigned a handicap value of 1.000
step 5: various multiples of the standard deviation are added to this zero par time to find 0.000, 2.000, 3.000, etc.

My theoretical best this week was the same as division 1 par
I wonder what it would've been if you'd only run it for 15 minutes.

Well done all survivors! An extremely challenging track in most cars and the TVR certainly proved a testing beast, bouncing around like a little rubber ball if you got off-line. If you beat your handicap here, give yourself a nod. 👍

This will be my last TT for a while... I'm glad it was a challenging one, glad I actually made it to the end this week and enjoyed the 10th Birthday of our beloved series.

The relevance of the handicapped results to the overall results is pretty much nothing. The point of the handicap system is to try and promote improvement as it gives you a comparison to what was expected in relation to your previous results.

Your aim should be to beat your handicap each week as that way you're racing against yourself and beating your handicap shows improvement. Your handicap will go up if you put in times over you handicap. However, you won't go down divisions unless you request to.

Sjaak beat you in the handicapped times because he put in a time closer to his handicap than you did (.2 vs .6) however you put in a faster time, it was just slower than was expected based on your qualifier and previous results.

If you're in division 3 you should be aiming to get your splits in line with other division 3s. If you do that, you're more likely to beat your handicap. :)

I don't understand the actual calculations though, I'm pretty sure Vaxen is the only one who can clear this up fully.

EDIT: What Vagabond said above ^^. He obviously types faster than me.

Its at the top of my previous post 👍

Nice battle for second place by the way Maverick - pushed all the way to the end. My desperation run gained me a tenth - without that it would've been a photo finish.

A Problem here. He submitted a 1:24.203, Video contains a clean lap of 1:24.018. Maybe you forgot to send in the fastest lap to fetchy ? Previous fast time shown in the video was the submitted time. I think to have it green flagged you have to send the correct video. Or any other comments from the admins ?

A Problem here. He submitted a 1:24.203, Video contains a clean lap of 1:24.018. Maybe you forgot to send in the fastest lap to fetchy ? Previous fast time shown in the video was the submitted time. I think to have it green flagged you have to send the correct video. Or any other comments from the admins ?

Thanks for the verification - I can relax now. I'll also have a look at other replays.

Did you had a bad feeling ?
There was one portion in the short turns behind the start, where you was only on the rumble strips, but both tires had clear contact.
Red line was ok, so car was tuned correctly.

That's good then. No, was just worried because it was my first TT and replay submission. Happy it's been approved.

Did some checks to get it started.

That's really strange. I certainly thought I'd sent fetchy the new time but I was struggling with my connection last night and I see that I didn't get a receipt from fetchy. I think I posted the splits from 1:24.018 too. What can I do to rectify this?
