Wow, 50 minutes, that was quick.

My other draft takes, at least, 3 hours, or six beers....depends on how you measure time.

That just means you are not drinking fast enough.

I don't think anyone's draft sucked. There were too many good players available. I just browsed everyone's team and I said pretty much the same thing about all of them... this could easily be the best team.

well, My draft sucked...:indiff:

Let's take a look.

Frank Gore, Reggie Bush - Solid, Solid
Tom Brady - Just might be the best fantasy QB this year
Housh - you killed me with Housh. I'll be hurting from that all season.
Boldin - very nice
Olsen - not so sure
Ward - always good

That's a pretty solid starting lineup. Could easily turn out to be gangbusters.

Now, wicky wicky on the otherhand, that's risky. Owens, Moss, and McNabb. Could be huge, could be painful.

I don't see a bad team on here. This should be an interesting season.

And if anyone is unhappy with a player, say one unidentifiable TE, you can trade or add/drop.

So here's the teams after the draft.

So...here I expected I was going to log in this morning and have to profusely apologize for missing the draft. My golf tournament had a rain delay and I didn't make it home until one hour after the draft had finished.

I didn't preset any draft picks with yahoo so it must have picked the next best available. Let’s review the team that has been chosen for me.:scared:

wicky wicky radsters
  1. Donovan McNabb - QB
Never been a Mcnabb fan. I don't even know if he is healthy for this season. Time to check on that.
  2. Torry Holt - WR
I can live with this one. He would have been my second pick for receivers anyway.
  3. Terrell Owens - WR
He did suprisingly have a good season last year. I'm not a fan Wade, and he is known for defense not offense. I hope that doesn't transfer into on field antics from Owens.
  4. Randy Moss - WR
He now is in the best situation that he could ask for. Having Brady tossing to him could really improve his numbers.
  5. Willie Parker - RB
    Willie who?
  6. Joseph Addai - RB
eh...so so. If Manning is on, how is Addai going to put up good numbers?
  7. Jeremy Shockey - TE
Not bad...wasn't he getting up there in years?
  8. Shayne Graham - K
#5 on my kicker list. It's ok I guess.
  9. Chicago - DEF
WOOO HOOO!!! If defense in this league is important I am very stoked about this pick. Thanks YAHOO! 👍
  10. Ronnie Brown - RB
Sorry...not a clue about this guy.
  11. Santana Moss - WR
Anybody know who will be throwing the ball to him yet?
  12. Vince Young - QB
I am ready to start Young over McNabb. I was hoping to pick up Young anyway. I think he is going to have a breakout season.
  13. Jerricho Cotchery - WR
    Again....WHO?
  14. Chris Cooley - TE
#2 on my TE list. 👍
  15. Adrian Peterson - RB
    Lots of potential.
  16. Robbie Gould - K
Still just a kicker. Nobody likes the kickers anyway.
  17. Pittsburgh - DEF
You better show up on the Chicago off week

Give me some time to review the competition and I might make a few small changes but for the most part I am happy. As Danoff mentioned I do have some risk in front of me. But maybe like the stock market goes, High risk can equal high return. I have my fingers crossed.

[*]Willie Parker - RB
Willie who?
You won't be disappointed.

[*]Joseph Addai - RB
eh...so so. If Manning is on, how is Addai going to put up good numbers?
A passing game only works if you have a threatening running game. Addai was extremely valuable last year.

[*]Jeremy Shockey - TE
Not bad...wasn't he getting up there in years?
There are few tight ends that I call a true threat. This is one of them. Don't forget this is the man who lost his helmet and took three more hits before going down last year. Too bad we don't award badass points. He is one tough guy. Plus, Eli is not quite his brother and Shockey sees a lot of short passes as Eli tries desparately to save himself.

[*]Chicago - DEF
WOOO HOOO!!! If defense in this league is important I am very stoked about this pick. Thanks YAHOO! 👍
A strong defense can sometimes make up for points a weak offensive player failed to put up.

[*]Vince Young - QB
I am ready to start Young over McNabb. I was hoping to pick up Young anyway. I think he is going to have a breakout season.
Yeah, this would be a toss up for me as well. It may take a couple of games to determine who is best. If Young breaks out he will be the obvious starter, but when McNabb is on he is priceless.

[*]Chris Cooley - TE
#2 on my TE list. 👍
He was my backup last year and was great when he got the ball. Again, when he got the ball. Some games he brought in lots of points and others he got me nothing. His performance will be determined by the rest of his offense.

[*]Robbie Gould - K
Still just a kicker. Nobody likes the kickers anyway.
Just a lonely kicker, eh? "They're going for two" :( (Adam Sandler reference). Gould started as my backup last year but quickly became my starter as Chicago couldn't get it in the end zone. They always got in field goal range and Gould would kick about five times a game, rarely missing. As he isn't with Chicago this year his value is yet to be determined.

[*]Pittsburgh - DEF
You better show up on the Chicago off week
This is a nice backup to have.

Give me some time to review the competition and I might make a few small changes but for the most part I am happy. As Danoff mentioned I do have some risk in front of me. But maybe like the stock market goes, High risk can equal high return. I have my fingers crossed.
As is always the case in football it takes a couple of games to determine the best. You can always count on a few solid teams but invariably a large number of playoff, and even Super Bowl, teams struggle the next year (Pittsburgh).

My draft is usually made based on research and gut decisions, but at least two players get switched out after the first two weeks. And of course, deciding who should play will determine who they play against. Many times I have switched out QBs because they were up against a blitz happy defense.

I also suggest reading Tuesday Morning Quarterback on ESPN.com. It has proven invaluable to me. When Gregg Easterbrook stays on topic he throws out a ton of common sense wisdom and stats, such as kick early, go for it late. When I see a coach punting with two minutes left while down by three on 4th and 1 I scream. Which also points out the fact that a coach can ruin or exault your fantasy team.

And that brings about my biggest wild card this year. How many coaching changes have there been this year? It seemed like coaches were being fired minutes after their last game last year, even with a winning record. So, many strategies will be changing and other coaches will hedge their bets at taking a loss without risk rather than trying to win on a risky last hope attempt. Sometimes those risky plays can lead to big plays, and big fantasy points.

And nothing will kill you more than watching a team take a knee, robbing you of the two points needed to win your fantasy game.

The only bonus to the fantasy vs real game is that players are watching their fantasy points to judge themselves. So, expect to see some attempt to make plays that will garner high fantasy value.

I agree with everything that foolkiller said above.

Also, if you want a kicker that will get you a lot of points, then get josh brown. He won about 4 games for the seahawks last year with a last second field goal.

That would require a trade with.......ME! Muhahahaha!

Sorry, but I believe he is a very nice backup for Vinatieri.

I just came back last night. Sorry I couldn't make the draft. But whoever picked my team...good job 👍

Also, whoever has Calvin Johnson...I want him. Just letting you know.

Wait, you weren't there?

Did you create a ranking in Yahoo! Because whenever your selection came up it picked for you without running the time out.

EDIT: Danoff has Calvin Johnson, along with a very, very long offensive bench. Go offer up a trade. I hear he needs a backup QB for Peyton.

I didn't create a ranking and it picked for me. Could you tell that I wasn't picking?

Who else missed the draft?

Yeah, I could tell you weren't there because the timer would run out. I think.

There was a lot of beer consumption that night. I didn't feel right having a draft without pizza and beer, so I ordered Papa John's online and reacquaintanced myself with the St. Pauli Girl's darker sister.

I'm totally willing to deal Calvin for the right offer.

Hmmm.... what would be a fair offer for a backup kicker? I tell you what, I'll give you Marion Barber III for him. All you have to do is pick him up from free agency. Wait, then I'd have to actually drop one of my guys to take him... nevermind. :)

You could let go lee evens.👍

Nope, I didn't have time to do that. And during draft day I was gone with my family.

So, Danoff...who do you want for Calvin?

So, Danoff...who do you want for Calvin?

Good question. As is customary after the draft, I'm pretty happy with my lineup right now. I could use a backup QB, but there are some awesome ones out there that weren't drafted. I could use a better defense, but I'm not so hot on either of yours. Maybe as the season goes on that will change.

In the meantime, feel free to make offers. I don't know how badly you want him and there are certainly players on your roster that I'd love to have. Like say, for example, Calvin Johnson and Vernon Davis (probably 3rd best TE) for Roy Williams (who you figure Calvin Johnson is going to take catches from anyway).

That's just an example, and I didn't really think about it much. PM me if you want to discuss further.

Soo...I just went through each of my players and looked for info on how they are doing so far this preseason. I can see that back ups are going to play a large part in how the season goes.

Things like having the Redskins quarterback get hurt makes my TE and WR possibly useless. I could have the best TE in the league but with some old hack, lame ducking him the ball seems pointless.

I guess until week one it’s hard to tell how "injured" some of these guys are.

It depends. Having the QB get injured can be the best thing that ever happened to your running back. Similarly, having another WR get hurt can seriously benefit your WR from that same team. If you drafted DeAngelo Williams for example, you're all about Foster going down.

But yea, if you've got Fitzgerald you're hoping that Leinart stays healthy.

I'll give you Roy for Calvin and Vernon, but having Vernon would be pretty funny.

It's like a house of cards. One small change can crush your strategy.

And then, like I said earlier, until the season gets started you don't know if your extremely valuable player will be used in this year's strategy. If a team with a huge running game last year acquired an awesome receiver they may begin to pass some more, and suddenly your valuable RB has become a mediocre RB, or vice versa.

As for waiting until week one to see how injured these guys are. If you want an excuse to not risk real injury in the preseason you say the guy is injured, only to have him come out like a bomb in the first few weeks, letting all the fans know he is better than ever after his "recovery." How many times have you heard about a star player dealing with a strained muscle in the preseason, so he only plays one possession to get on the record as having started?

Is everybody ready!!!

My wife tonight got in on a league at her work and now the both of us are giving it a go for the first time. Talk about jumping in with all four feet.

I'm getting use to yahoo and they have really neat features. I see in the "match up" option that I'm am predicted to beat Danoff (The Chefs) 105 to 104. I hope week one lives up to the predictions. BRING IT DANBOY

So, the first game is played out. You can check the current stats now.

Here are the scores as they stand now.

Centurion Eagles 3
Delicious Species 29

Delicious species have gotten off to an early lead as Marvin Harrison performed well with four receptions, 83 yards, and scored a TD. Adam Vinatieri also gave a good showing with two field goals. However, Marques Colston only gained 47 yards and garnered 4 points. Could The species have a weak spot in their receiving core?

The Centurion Eagles only performer so far was Reggie Bush. He was predicted to get 14 points but only managed 3 as he only managed 38 yards in 12 carries. This puts the ground game completely in the hands of SF's Frank Gore Monday night. With LT still waiting to get playing time the species are looking to be a favorite at this point, but with Chicago's defense LT may underperform on Sunday.

wicky wicky radsters 19
The Chefs 44

The Chefs have jumped out to a huge lead as Peyton Manning connected with Reggie Wayne seven times for 115 yards and two TDs.

The Wi Wi Radsters may be behind but so far Joseph Addai is the only man with time on the field. I'm sure team owner UnoMoto was worried as Addai lay on the field after a hard hit and then left the game temporarily. Even with the temporary injury Addai managed 23 carries for 118 yards and a TD. Addai should be invaluable in the upcoming season.

With McNabb, Holt Alexander and Gates still yet to see playing time in this game it can go either way.

SuperBad 3
JFM = 49er hater 0

The only player on the field so far in this matchup is Drew Brees, and with his super bad performance of two interceptions and a lost fumble SuperBad must be worrying if they can make up the points in other players. With Steven Jackson on the team this shouldn't be a big concern. As runner-up MVP last year Brees was expected to do more, hopefully for SuperBad this won't become a habit.

The niner haters must be looking forward to Monday night when three Bengals will take on the Ravens. The question is, can Cincy's offense stand up to Baltimore's defense. Of course, the haters may just be waiting to see what Larry Johnson does against Houston. This game is certainly up in the air and with the stack of talent still to see playing time this should be a great matchup.

For future reference the commissioner would like to point out that each week there is an opportunity to vote for who you think will win under the matchup for each game. Feel free to go in and vote, and maybe smack talk those you vote against.

I watched the game yesterday and I have to give it up to the Colts. They were excellent against the Saints. Their offense was terrific, big surprise, and their defense was surprisingly very, very good, especially considering they were paying last year's number one offense; I expected the Colts defense to look silly against the Saints in the game. Drew Brees looked horrible in the game, Reggie Bush was very lackluster, and the Saint offense as a whole just looked bad and was the complete opposite of what the Colts were. The Colts did not miss a beat, outside of Reggie Wayne's fumble, and Peyton Manning put all of his passes exactly where they needed to be.

It looked like the Colts were trying to prove to everyone that they are the defending Super Bowl champions and will continue to be so until someone beats them in the playoffs, that is if they can do so.

I'm sure team owner UnoMoto was worried as Addai lay on the field after a hard hit and then left the game temporarily.

As was my wife (who owns Addai in another league). It looks like he's going to be a huge part of the colt's offense. Good news for anyone that grabbed him. He had the ball on every other play. I'm not sure anyone could have predicted that the saints would look so bad.

The only game decided at this point is The Chefs (131) vs Wicky Wicky Radsters (89).

Sorry, UnoMoto, but the Manning-Wayne combo was just too much to overcome, even with Lee Evans giving Danoff 0 points. Your team performed well, but no one would have beaten the Chefs this week.

The other two games are still up in the air as nine players play tonight. The Delicious Species have a commanding lead over the Centurion Eagles, but four players in tonight's lineup could change the tide as The Species is finished for this week.

And in the SuperBad vs 49 hater match up both teams have players in tonight's game. With only a 14 point difference this one could be close.

I am of the opinion that there should be some sort of bonus when one player plays two different positions. With a passing Td and running Td I expected LT to bring in more points, but as I predicted Chicago's D held his running numbers down to mere mortal standards. Too bad Chicago's offense can't do anything.

Is it bad that San Diego's defense got more points than any of their individual offensive players?
