GT's original tracks. And why they would not be realistic.

You may notice that many of the classic tracks have what amounts to a mountain in the middle of the track. It's like you're driving at the bottom of a canyon. I like this, but it's not realistic.

Most of GT's original tracks can be built, given enough money for all the landscaping. It's just that some of them would be unfeasibly expensive (Grand Valley's bridge-tunnel combo... Cape Ring's loop bridge) to build and many will not meet FIA standards. (Trial Mountain, for one...)

Most of the tracks have big jumps in them that would just not be good in real life. Deep Forest, Trail Mountain, Cape Ring, and Eiger Nordwand from this game. From previous GTs stuff like Seattle Circuit would just destroy cars.

Most of the tracks from "Yesteryear" have been destroyed by Chicanes and other idiotic things to slow the racing down and make it more "Safe". With that in mind, I douby any of the tracks in GT would ever be made into a real circuit. If the same layout (w/out the "JUMPS" could be made in a more open area with proper run-off and safety access then I might believe some of them could be. Too many Safety-Crats these days though... BRING BACK MONZA before it was NEUTERED.. (Curve Grande to Lesmo's had NO chicanes, then, Lesmo's to the Parabolica (Last corner) there were also NO CHICANES..only big sweeping turns. It WAS a beautiful, flowing circuit. It's ruined now as far as I'm concerned. Even the version they claim that has "no chicanes", still has chicanes. <-- Not sure where that rant came from..sorry guys. I just HATE what they're doing to tracks these days.

I understand you fully, was absolutely furious when they ruined Hockenheim:mad: Glad they've lost so much money for it.

I love driving the Monza variant without the chicane, it feels so much better going in at full speed into Curva Grande.

Imola too, they could've just pulled the fast corners in (like 130R at Suzuka), to give more runoff.

Anyways, circuits such as Grand Valley could be built, if you remove the tunnels and the huge bridge. Autumn Ring is another one.

Most of the other circuits would require more runoff, and removal of sudden jumps and massive gradients.

They're unrealistic because they wouldn't be built, not because they couldn't be built.
In contrast to a modern GP circuit, they are a blast to drive even with lower powered street cars, so it's great to have them.

Any track with jagged rocks for walls wouldn't be allowed. Also tracks that travel near or over water would need to be modified quite a bit.

They'd all be feasible. Forget safety regulations, since the 'ring wouldn't pass any of those either.

They probably would be unsuitable for mainstream racing, and the jumps would have to go, but there's no other reason why they might not have been built in a bygone era (like the 'ring was).

Them "existing" and building them are 2 seperate things, though.

High Speed ring was considered to be made into a real racetrack but the project never got off the ground.
GT5's Rome course was being considered as a possible route for a Rome GP (which Ecclestone says can't happen cause there would be 2 races in the same country, like the old San Marino GP then?)

They would never have run the course on that route, F1 cars would not be able to run over the cobblestones, and the historians would never let them be paved over.

Whilst true it is a bit stupid that none of the tracks would be anything close to current standards. I brought it up in another thread, but why don't they ever create realistic racing circuits? What makes them think we want stupid tracks with turns like that on Cape Ring and don't get me started on jumps. Race tracks don't have jumps in them, stop putting them in PD!

I guess, while we are complaining that older tracks are being neutered, we should complain that the cars driving them are getting faster... and we are less willing to place the drivers in mortal peril just to race them.

Any track is the combination of BOTH the track and the car. Older tracks worked because the cars driving them were matched to their capabilities, and we were prepared to allow drivers to die if those matches got exceeded.

For these older tracks to have the design returned to their pre-neutered phase, perhaps we should go back to the cars that used to race them (like Goodwood), and ask the drivers to place their lives on the line again, when a much safer alternative exists?

Hey, let's bring back gladiators fighting to the death, while we are at it! Now THAT'S a 'real' sport, isn't it? It must grind your gears to have to watch fencing or kendo, when they could be using REAL swords and death and dismemberment awaits the loser!

I take it you don't watch MMA? :D It's not for the faint of heart... broken (sometimes shattered) bones, dislocations... blood everywhere... it's absolutely brutal.

...but why don't they ever create realistic racing circuits?

Realistic racing circuits are boring. Have you ever driven a family car on an FIA certified circuit? Accelerate out of the pits. Accelerate. Keep accelerating. Hit turn one... it's twenty miles wide and if you don't have too much power, you don't even have to lift. The apex of turn two, which is a tricky follow-up to turn one if you're driving a Formula One car, is so far across the track that it takes you an appreciable amount of time getting to it... your car feels dog slow because the kerbs are all so far away.

Having fantasy tracks actually enables players to enjoy cars that don't have 600-900 hp and racing slicks.

I'd liket to see PD at least try to bring their GT circuits up to modern standards.

For example, I hate the jaggy Walls at Trial Mountain/Deep Firest, they should put barriers over the edges to make it more realistic.

The homemade tracks are over the top, but in a way agree that it's good to have some unique tracks.

And stop it with the reverse variations!!!

What? No. Why ruin a virtual track for safety?
These look pretty similar to some of the best roads I've driven on IRL, those walls are very realistic. If you're afraid go to Fuji.

I just deleted fifteen posts from this thread for being off-topic. The purpose of this thread is to discuss original circuits from Gran Turismo - like Apricot Hill and Deep Forest - and whether or not they could realistically be constructed in real life. It is not a place to discuss existing circuits and their construction.

Don't make me have to do this again.

Apricot Hill and Grand Valley are the only ones i'd consider. The rest are too scrambled, as in there are too many corners too close together.

Why all the "Safety regulation stuff? A Lot of Monaco GP track is surrounded by Concrete walls and Armco barrier. It goes through a tunnel and is bordered for a large section by water?

I read that Monte Carlo wouldn't exist if it was put forward in the modern era. Pretty much only in the F1 calender and other race series due to its history and the fact they've managed to deal with the tracks obvious safety issues rather effectively as times gone by.

Only real track that would make it from the GT originals in GT5 would probably be Autumn Ring. The tunnel/loop combo would be difficult to construct I imagine, but I suppose it would be possible. Alot easier than carving tracks through mountains and linking them with bridges ala Grand Valley.

Wouldn't want no more from fantasy tracks though, you won't be able to drive through these mountains and over bridges with a lake beneath anywhere else but GT.

I just want a fantasy track that resembles a real race circuit. Midfield Raceway wasn't far off but that is obviously gone, unfortunatly.

Apart from that there are no tracks in GT5 that you could really mistake for a real world circuit.

Apricot Hill is probably the most 'normal' of all GT's original tracks. There's nothing too demanding about it in terms of real life construction. Shame it isn't in GT5. Loved that track.

Yeah from memory most of it was pretty basic and realistic. No bridges, no jumps or carved out mountains. Like you say, shame it's not on GT5, just like Midfield. Instead we get the ridiculous cape ring, seemingly designed by PD when they were high on something. Ooooooooooooh big jumps, eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh, huge spiral corners, wooooooooooooooo.

Barcelona, Valencia

Rome circuit IRL would be great for a one-off :dopey:
