I'm surely wrong. May I ask about your clue?

A real author? Is he/she a character in every segment? And are the segments seperate like an anthology? Or do you mean, one film broken into four distinct acts?

No.

It has four different parts each one helping to create a biography of a real author, but they are interwoven with fictional scenes from his novels. Francis Ford Coppola was one of the producers.
