Do you think GT6 has been Abandoned?

The question is why hasn't that happened this time.
Long and convoluted as this topic has got, although not surprising, there are only 5 realistically possible options... listed in order of increasing improbability.
  • GT6 development has been compromised to place priority on GT7 at this point, so updates and features will be delayed.
  • They are running at full tilt to get out a comprehensive update that will address many of the issues of greatest concern and at least one of the advertised features.
  • They are having problems developing GT6 either because of coding problems or due to the premature arrival of save hacking. (DO NOT turn this into an excuse for a hacking debate.)
  • They have abandoned GT6 production to concentrate on GT7.
  • There is a problem between Sony and PD.

The general level of discontent is a result of the unusual silence from Sony about what is going on or what the time-frame will be, if there is one. For those that aren't impatient or disgruntled by this, that's great for you, I applaud your patience. That said, don't think that gives you the right to a morally superior attitude toward those that are impatient.

3 months may not be a long time in general but in gaming terms its an age; many of GTs consumers are in the more casual market and after 3 months with no news or advertised feature updates, they are long gone, many possibly with a mind not to buy GT7 when it comes out as a result of this.

Personally, no, I don't think its been abandoned but the question remains "Why are they not releasing any information?" PD don't have a direct line of communication, they go through SCE, so one can't help but wonder what the hell is going on... its the silence that is truly troubling to me.

It's always been like this, i remember during GT5 that Kaz's twitter farts or vague statements during rare interviews were the only info people had and commenced to dissect rigorously.

So not much has changed; apart from the fact that they made the mistake of promising tons of features literally this time, and many people bought 6 because of it even though they were still absent, trusting they would keep their word.

Anyway; track editor, data logger, community features, Senna content (stuff they advertised) will come when they see fit and not a moment sooner.

I wounder if it'll all just be released as a one time package like GT5: Academy

Senna's remembrance is over a month away, so it would be logical if his content will be released as DLC by then, probably accompanied with one or more of the major features they advertised on the box.

They have to really, waiting half a year or more to finally release features you promised as being part of the game is just plain unacceptable.

An update 2.0 makes the most sense, seeing how things have been going (or not going), but it better be good and huge, if they want to regain the trust of people.

This thread is fantastic ....

GT6 is out there only 3 months and it's the general alert.

Always same criticisms, assumptions ... In the end, you brew wind.
And it'll be the same story when GT7, GT8, etc. come out because people have unrealistic expectations ....

We see only unhappy? Yeah, others preferred to deserte GTPlanet and I understand them. GTPlanet forum has become a giant trash and I am the first to be sad.

At first, I was surprised not to see Amar but today.... No.

I wish you a good continuation.

Good analysis. Any of those options would be moderately acceptable if we knew about them. The fourth would be tough for some to swallow, but at least we'd know.

I don't think it's been abandoned either, but as you say, the real question is "Why not tell anyone what's going on?"

Presumably it's bad news, or something that would be received badly by the general public. If it was good news they'd be falling over themselves to tell us.

Why wait then? Possibly because the best way to make sure that bad news doesn't have too big an impact is to either package it with or follow it shortly after with some good news. Timing can make a difference.

Major bits of good news they could have coming are probably either Senna content or GT7P. Anything else would be reduced to "about damn time" by many at this point.
Major bits of bad news they could have coming are GT6 features are going to be delayed, or reduced, or cut altogether.

If they could get the bad news close to the actual release of GT7P it would likely dwarf any negative announcement they could make. "GT6 support dropped, GT7P on sale next week." That's a tough one to know how to respond to as a consumer.

Frankly, they can probably toddle along like this with no announcements and minor updates for six months if they have to. As long as they say nothing, there's really no trigger to start an internet rage storm, just a bunch of disgruntled consumers. The moment they put out press releases for anything negative, that's immediately ammunition for the keyboard warriors to try and generate an anti-PD campaign.

I imagine that's what they want to avoid most of all, widespread devaluing of their brand.

You're probably right that these sentiments are there now, but haven't they always been so silent on the communication front regardless of what was happening with their games? So in that way nothing much has changed @ PD.

There's that moral superiority again. On what grounds do you justify this attitude? Because its only been 3 months?

Break it down.... 3 months for a company with ~110 employees = ~66,630 man-hours, based on a basic 40 hour working week, over 5 days; time enough to have achieved more than we have seen evidence of. "Only" is a relative term and a subjective one.

Expectations are not something that you make out of thin air. All expectations were raised by PD when they went on advertising features and resources that aren't in the game so far, and no one could say when they will, or even if they will someday.

You could contribute to this awful thread, that you insist visiting, saying to us what would be a reasonable schedule to the new features. Six months? A whole year?

And, of course, it'll be the same when GT7 and 8 come out. And the reason is very easy to understand: Poliphony Digital is stuck on 1998.

About Amar, although I disagree with him in a number of points recently, because he's still around. I even tried to start conversations in a number of threads about his views, but to no avail.

For the people that said why are they still working on GT5, well they aren't really, it was confirmed a while ago that the seasonal events are generated automatically the maintenance is just that, there not actually making improvements or adding to anything on GT5. Pretty sure that they are still working on all the content for gt6, they wouldn't still have it all listed on the website if they weren't and considering the game has only been out a few months, we didn't get any DLC in GT5 for almost a year after release

Indeed. False expectations were a real problem with GT5, it was very unclear what would be given and so people came up with all sorts of things.

With GT6 we don't have that problem. It's written in black and white on their website, in their advertising material and on the box of their game. Thus far they haven't delivered.

They've got a timeframe of a year from release for the VGT program to be completed, and I don't think it's unreasonable for a consumer to expect all, if not at least the majority of the advertised features to be in the game by then. A year is an awful long time.

Ok well since it's so funny, let me see you go and create car sim better than this. I'll wait. I did'nt think so, not so easy is it.

I feel you need to relax, read my older posts if you can and I bet you'll come running back to what I'm posting right now with open arms.

Please, do you have the link? If you do, PM me. I wanna laugh.

Turns out it's actually in the Kaz movie trailer.

It's impossible to say , we don't know details of some features.

We don't know either planning of Polyphony Digital .... They may well insert features updated by update or in a single update.

All I can say is that three months is too early to ignite as you do. If after a year , there is still nothing , then yes, you can begin to spit on Kazu or PoDi.... But today , no, you're just stirring the wind.

How long SPEC 2.0 has come for GT5 ? Not after 2 /3 months.... Is that prevented developing GT6 ? No.

So for GT7, don't worry . PoDi can work on several projects at the same time and GT6 is next-gen ready, it can go much faster, no need to start from scratch as they did for GT5.

Moreover, GT7 will not be released this year, I 'm pretty sure . A demo can be but it stops there.
Then don't forget Drive Club. Sony will not get 2 racing games at the same time.

I know we are in a generation where you have to have everything right away but you have to be patient too.

I'm thinking this one:

  • They are having problems developing GT6 either because of coding problems

I believe PD has bitten off more than they can chew, they have obviously been pushing the PS3 as far as they can already, improving on that will always be a case of compromises, and I don't think they are able to manage doing the right things. There are obviously different developer groups doing conflicting stuff while the boss is out driving on the track.

Also, they have a history of making poor design decisions. And it is extremely difficult coding your way out of poor design.

I suppose you have to join the USA ones... And I think there are just Euro servers not specific ones for each euro country

Like what?
GT6 is a bare minimum of what online gaming is about today. No real community, no rankings, no penalties for acting like a ****. There is nothing there that pulls you in except if you are a part of a racing league (which the game does not help establish AT ALL). It's just awful by todays standards.

Once again, who are you to say 3 months is too soon? May I remind you they started promoting the course maker and other missing features last May. If they knew completion of those features was still 10 months away they shouldn't have promoted them so hard as big features of Gran Turismo 6.

Why exactly should we have to wait a whole year for these features? You cite Spec 2.0 but that wasn't created to add missing featured advertised before the game released, was it? So it's hardly the same thing.

I get the feeling from reading their posts that most of these people would still be saying "they said it's a future update" 3 years from now. They don't get that 3 months in gaming world might as well be 3 years.

Remeber the Vision GT shenanigan?

It was announced with the promisse that we would get one car per month.

So, three months, uh? How long should we wait to the second ludicrously useless concept? Three years?

I don't think GT6 has been abandoned as we're witnessing the actual abandoning of a game in GT5.

GT6 will continue to be updated, but whether or not the updates please everyone is to be seen. I foresee PD actively working on GT6 several more years and well into the PS4/GT7 era.

Indeed. It's a shame PD would never release the numbers because I would be willing to bet anything up to half of the 11 million that bought GT5 didn't play it long enough to see the Spec 2.0 update and similarly I would bet a lot of the people that bought GT6 aren't still putting it in their PS3 checking for their missing features.

I just don't understand why everybody is so negitive about GT6 when as a car guy, a true gear head there is alot to love about the game. I mean yes it has it's fault, every game does, but what other game out there can you hop in the dream car of your choice (a car you will never drive in your life) and take it to a track of your choice (a track many of us will never drive around) and just drive?
And I know as a true car guy and many of us are got to love that. GT has some of the biggest names in racing involved, Jay Leno, Jeff Gordan, Mario Andretti, S Vettal, and soon to be the late great Ayrton Senna. I would say GT future is still bright regardless of it's faults. So I just think that PD would never abandon this game, esp with such great names standing behind them.

GTA5 had it's fault at launch, and months later they are still updating content, I remember BF3 was a wreck at launch an it took them more than 3 months to iron that game out, and they sold us a premium package that we could'nt get until months down the road and people was ok with that, and that was $50 on top of DLC and $60 for the game. But PD has some issues and everybody wants to give up on PD and bash them. That's not right people. When in doubt, go to the realistic photo thread and see why this game and future ones will stay on top. Can't we all just get along "in a rodney king voice". :)

Quite a lot, actually. Unfortunately some people want a little more than that from their game, just as putting you in a shooting game on a battlefield with a gun and saying go shoot things isn't enough.

Jay Leno is a big name in racing? News to me. As for the others they are ust marketing names, and voices. They don't make the game any better.

You really are going through all the cliche responses aren't you? "I'd like to see you do better", "Don't like it don't play it" and now "Well these games were just as bad".

Protip. Other games having problems isn't an excuse and no, some realistic photos aren't going to suddenly make everything great with the game.

I'm just trying to stay positive man, and not focused on the negitives as much, and I bought the game knowing that alot of features was going to come at a later date and believe in Kazs dream. That's all.

True. In a year, PS4 and Xbone will be huge. PCars and Asseto Corsa will be competing for our time. Nobody will fire up the old PS3 just to see a new, and frankly, very dispensable, ne VGT.

Trust me, I'd love to be positive but PD are not giving me any reason to feel that way. Missed deadlines, false promises, no communication and living in the past is all I see. Nothing they do inspires me to think yeah, they've got something amazing coming. There is no anticipation for me like their used to be back in the day, looking for any previews or information in the latest magazine.

Try defining "unrealistic expectations" before you drop the phrase.

Comparing GT5's immediate post release support to GT6's does no wonders for GT6.

They said that exact thing for GT6. Remember "GT5 is an OS"?

And besides, I find it funny how I get bashed on a GranTurismoPlanet forum, I would expect this if it was a ForzaPlanet forum, we are all fans of the series and in this together along the Gran Turismo ride are we not. :)
