Why is it when cars put its headlights on, the high beam is on?

In real life, you're going to blind everyone!

Thought you know about cars, PD...

(I know it's not an important issue... just saying)

In night racing in GT5, high beams prove useful... which is quite unrealistic compared to real life though.

But when driving round Nurburgring, I just turn high beam off.

I don't know why PD implemented this. Common sense would indicate that high beams shouldn't be turned on by default.

Hmm, I should play with my controls or something. I seem to have two buttons, neither of which switches the beam, it's just on or off, or flash during the day. They have different descriptions in the settings screen.

Have they fix the issue where headlight doesn't shine on the AI cars? I haven't played a night race in weeks.

They turn on automatically at night.

Ok, thanks. So I guess that means "completely black" must be low beam, and "a tiny bit brighter for 5 feet and then completely black except for the brightly glowing trackside objects that make the track even harder to see" is high beam then. I did notice my 430 seemed to light up the track like floodlights, but I assumed it was because it was a generated track, haven't driven much of anything outside my '10 camaro in actual nighttime.

Exactly. The only reason you wouldn't use high Beam IRL is it will blind people. If you could IRL use high beams and not blind people then there wouldn't be any reason not to use it. Since you can't blind people in a sim there is no reason not to use high beam. That's very realistic. ;)

No they haven't. Although it would be nice to see my headlights shine on AI cars, but I think that will reduce the performance (framerate).

The tracks on which the cars have them on through the day, have it as a rule that lights must be on. Racing cars use the high beams all the time and even have extra lights to illuminate as much of the track as possible. How many blind racing drivers have you heard of? They would only be blinded if the car was coming the other way.

Have you never had someone come behind you at night with their highbeams on? They're really bright.

But yeah, most of it is rules, and plenty of race cars don't have rear windows anyway.

:odd: Is there a miswording here or are you seriously saying that driving, let alone racing, in the dark is better done with low beams in real life?

Yep. That's why there's a thing called night mode on the rear view mirror.

You must use low beams when there are oncoming traffic coming. Of course.

And of course, it's better to use high beams in night, but only if there's nobody in front of you.

I don't know about racing "rules", so if it is a rule for racing to use high beams, then that's fine! :)
