Title says it all really, hopefully this can be a thread where we post realistic challenges based on "real life" times around real world tracks :)

Dude this is a fantastic idea!

Imma give this a go:
1) Using only a stock Pagani Zonda R '09 on racing hard tires, beat the real-life Zonda's mind boggling 6:47 time around Nurburgring. No assists are allowed, except for ABS.
2) Someone's claiming that their Lamborghini Miura Prototype is the fastest around Laguna Seca. While in the Supercar Nostalgia A-Spec race, use either a fully tuned VW Kubelwagen or a fully tuned Schwimmwagen to embarrass them and show them who's boss.
3) Win the B-Spec 500PP Tsukuba Circuit race with a Gran Turismo Racing Kart 125 SPL on sports hard tires, and with no coaching the driver.

That's it for now. :)

Yeah I will if it proves popular, but added the first challenge name as hopefully people will want to take on the Drift King himself (i've not tried it yet, knowing GT's take on reality it might actually be kinda easy!)

Well the first is the kinda thing I was hoping for, not so much 2 and 3 which seem a little far-fetched? But hey i'm liking the purely homegrown challenges as there must only be a limited supply of "real life" comparisons, I guess one of the starting points is to beat the '07 GTR around the Nordschleiffe to get that trophy :)

EDIT: Apologies for double post but was in response to another edited post =P

I've thought about these time attack records before, particularly as I was beating a lap time set by a Heavily modded Evo (At Tsukuba), in a mini cooper with sport soft tires.

I didn't bother investigating further since it seemed far too easy to blow away real lap times in GT5.

But I could be completely wrong.

it depends on the tires. Just pick something that allows the same cornering speeds, not caring about the actual name of the tire in GT5.

Exactly. I'll try the Arta/Tsukuba combo over the next day or two, racing hards at first, though I welcome anyone else to try and post their times :)

Lion Roar - Beat the 2010 Le Mans pole of Sebastian Bourdais (3m19.711s) in a Peugeot 908 Team TOTAL.

A good idea, although in-game times do tend to be faster due to factors such as
not fearing death or injury, or having to worry about mechanical failures

With professional racing drivers who know the limit of the car the death and injury part doesn't really matter that much. After all it's about control so why should they fear when in control. :)

The bigger factors playing in the favour of sim drivers is the amount of laps they can drive and the uniformity of the conditions that real life tracks and cars don't enjoy. For example there seems to be no real track temperature variations or mechanical things like brake fade in GT5.

OK so what was the time? I could go look it up but the point is to post the challenges here ;-)

I actually already did #3 on my own yesterday and my bob blew away the field. 6th after 2 laps. 1st after 5. Lapped back-marker on back-straight of 8th. No coaching necessary. It was an eye-opener.

Move it!- Beat the 4WD challenge by winning each race in the 4WD Daihatsu Move. :sly:

Unscheduled Pit Stop- Win a race in the NASCAR events while making at least 1 pit stop.

I really like this idea however ABS need to be off, because ABS in GT5 is terrible and it makes drivers use terrible braking technique. I think the Arta NSX doesn't have ABS anyway. If you want to keep it realistic I would not allow ABS and set a universal Brake Bias for the specific car we would be using.

Arta NSX would be this example
Racing Hard tires
Brake Bias 4/F 2/R
No ABS
No TCS
No ASM
No line
No Skid recovery
Tire wear
Real grip

I tried the Tsukuba one with my ARTA NSX '00 and if I recall right, I did a lap in 54.xxx.
I'll give it a go tonight maybe.

I also have some new challenges ideas.
Beat Kimi Raikkonen best lap times at Spa, Indy, Monza and Nürburgring back in 2007.
Indy : 1:12.111 (Q2)
Nürb : 1:31.237 (Q2)
Monza : 1:22.369 (Q2)
Spa : 1:45.070 (Q2)

Same can be done with Alonso in 2010 with the F10.

Also :

HKS CT230R @ Tsukuba : 53.589
Le Mans lap record (Peugeot 908 Matmut '10) : 3:19.074
McLaren MP4-12C @ Top Gear Test Track : 1:16.2
Nissan GT-R 2012 @ Top Gear Test Track : 1:17.8

OK8
Group C madness challenge; try to beat this:

No idea if you can get 1100 hp out of that car though, or get anywere close to that time but would be fun to try.

Finally got around to trying this with the R89C. With a high pressure turbo I got it up to 1043hp (900 kg, 730pp) and with default setup and default aero managed a 3:26.773 with clutch, no ABS and racing hard.

Really fun car to drive, I wish there was a league in GTP running group C cars, I'd love to race this thing sometime.

I actually fell so in love with this combo I kept trying it. Here's the best I've done so far.

Only modification to the car was a high pressure turbo to take it up to 1043 hp, racing hard tyres, clutch and no ABS (brake balance 6/2). There were some mistakes like the first corner but it was still a second faster than what I had done earlier.

Try it, it's really fun!
