Well I injured my shoulders in late Sept., I hope to be back in the gym by January. I tore some ligaments when I was trying to rep out. I had a good spotter, but I guess I'm getting too old to do stupid stuff like that.

My last rep on the bench was 315 nine times, haven't been back since.
Shoulder injuries are tough. I went through one not too long ago. Mine turned out to be a bone spur. The doctor said I would either have to live with it or get surgery. He said after the surgery I would have to lay off the weights for around 6 months. I wasn't willing to do that so I came up with exercises that worked around the injury. I figured I would never to start going heavy on my bench again. About 3 months ago the pain started to disapear and today it's completly gone. I am working my way back up and now am at 390 max.
Anyway the point is...don't give up..
You aren't too old to keep working out. 315 for 9 reps is a very respectable amount of reps for that amount of weight. I was thinking about backing off the heavy stuff and work on my reps for a while. I have never been big on the reps but during the injury I had to do reps instead of weight and I kind of liked it.
Hope you heal quickly.
Good luck.

AGE - 18
Weight - 155
Height - 5'11
Press - 160

I always wanna be able to press close to weight. It keeps me balanced between physical strength, and agility so that Im not too big. Fairly in-between.

i got my new computer.......was gone for a long time.

but track conditioning is going on and i can bench 185 and hack squat 315. (dont wanna try a regular squat when doing heavy weight...i'd rather use the machine so if i cant get it up anymore i dont have to worry about falling lol.)

peace.

Finally hit 420 again. I think I pulled a muscle in my neck in the process though. This stuff never happened a few years back. Must be the age thing. :)

That's great!!! Last June, I managed to rep 315, 9 times while ripping both rotator cuffs in the process. I haven't been back since. I'm giving it a full year to recover before I try and do something that stupid again... :( I really only needed a 3-rep, but the spotter (not the normal guy) really pushed me..., and he pushed me too hard.

Keep on keepin on, and do extensive warmups and stretches before any workout. :D

So Concept,

What's been the biggest help in your routine to get your bench up?

Great ratio, by the way...

Well, the biggest help has to be that I'm taking a weight training class. That's helped greatly. This way, I have other people motivating me to do more and more. It helps working out with others. Believe it or not, but I never realized doing push-ups would help your bench max. Consistant burnouts on bench and working out the triceps has helped greatly. Especially the triceps, after getting the weight to your chest, the hardest part is getting it back up to the point where your biceps move the weight again. Working the triceps totally helped in getting my bench up.

Are you still working out Pako? Oh and uh, were you being sarcastic about my ratio?

Do not forget a size 14 shoe, and hands that feel comfortable around an Xbox controller. ;) :p

Thank god you said X Box controller. Would've been better if you had said DS2 but atleast it's a controller.

Anyway. I need to start training first.

the best thing to do to increase your bench press is not to bench at all.

toss the bar and use dumbells instead, doing reps with your hands parrallel to your legs and perpendicular too.

I'm taking a year off to fully heal up. I'm planning on getting back into it this May or June, which is just around the corner. I wasn't being sarcastic at all. Weighing 175 and benching 275? That's pretty good. I know guys that weight in at 300 lbs that can only bench 500, with that, you have a better ratio than they do. :)

Age 21
Weight 182lbs
Height 5"10
Not sure what my maximum now would be but I have benched 220 before.

I'm not at all to the standard of the top lifters in my class. We've got a kid weighing in around 190 benching 325+.

Anyway Pako, how is your squat? I know that my parallel squat max is 360, I'll max out on my box squatting next week some time.

Not sure on my squats..... Not my most favorite exercise. If memory serves me correctly, I was at 455 lbs on my heavy reps. I never did max out with squats.
