Hello GTPlanet,
I would like to know how realistic are GT6's Karts are since I would like to begin Karting as a hobby and hopefully improve to a level where it is competitive.

Thanks a lot for your time! 👍

I race karts and the only kart that handles anything like a real kart is the Artyon Senna 1980 Dap kart. All the others are way too twitchy.

A problem is that the gt karts are originals, so it's hard to tell what sort of (if any) real life karts they are supposed to be similar to. Perhaps they should try to include real karts in the next game.

Karts are pretty simple machines and most karts within the same class are very similar to each other. Any generic 100cc + 125cc kart from any major manufacturer would do. Lots of people karting in Japan they aren't hard to find. There isn't a kart manufacturer in the world that wouldn't just throw karts at PD if they asked.

I see. I thought there would be a bit more differences in handling at least, seeing as there is another set of karts in the game with different handling.

I've only really driven karts at one specific place so I've only tried one make.

If driven with a wheel and pedals I'd say they were close enough for practice purposes and will help develop your basic skills 👍
Nothing is a complete substitute for real life experience as there will always be variance in grip levels on different circuits and other minor differences but they have similar enough characteristics and require similar techniques to the karts I've driven at least.

I think it's hard to get the physics of karts right in the game because karts are so different to any other type of 4 wheeled motorsport. Cornering speeds are crazy, turning radius is tiny, responsiveness of the steering in real life is crazy fast (lock to lock in a split second) and that is all tough to create in a videogame with limited peripheral vision and a lack of feedback from your butt. Real karts have no suspension and you're riding on a moulded fibreglass seat so you feel everything and that's how you get most of your feedback. It's all missing in a videogame and the muted FFB through the wheel doesn't help either.

I think the handling of the karts is pretty good myself, but I find the overly strong slipstream even on real settings to be 100% ridiculous.

Don't even get me started when sliptream is set to normal (which includes all offline events) - from 150 meters behind at 50mph, and your kart magically seems to gain an extra 50% horsepower. Ok PD...

Hi Thomas - further to the response from DolHaus above, karting in real life is very physical so get yourself into the best shape of your life if you are serious about the sport - also you or your parents will need very deep pockets or a sponsor with very deep pockets.

I know someone who sponsors his grandson to the tune of at least ÂŁ80k per annum ($120k) and that is apparently a lot less than the front runners spend.

I've only done a little karting and none of it at a competitive level, but as DolHaus said you will bruised and aching in muscles you didn't even know you had! You will be out of breath in minutes and your arms will be pumped up and burning from wrestling with the heavy steering unless you are super fit - obviously the game cannot reproduce anywhere near the level of physical effort required.
