Just wondering how many copies Gran Turismo 4 has sold, as I read somethere that is was around 7 milllion copies which is kind of disappointing for such a huge release.....

I doubt it. It sold 3,182,535 on day 1 of release in PAL territories.

I read GT3 has over 14 million....

Including when it was bundled with PS2 and when it became a "greatest hit" and the price was reduced by 50%?

Give GT4 more time, GT3 has been out for 4 years, GT4 has been out 7 months.

Damn... GT4 sold better than the latest Pokemon... if that isn't an industry record, I don't know what is... ...guess driving dads have more money than ten year olds...

Well, since Madden will only sell well stateside, and FIFA will only sell well OUTSIDE the US, I don't think overall sales will go down that much...

Madden and Fifa are totally different markets, they wont effect GT4 at all.

Not all the world likes americain football, and the same goes for soccer. Yet kids/dads all over the world do like racing.

well, if someone has enough money to be separated for different market of games, he's pretty rich, i don't think someone would buy 10 different games, from 10 different genres in 1 month, would they? they have a financial side, not just the interest.

And soccer or more correctly, THE REAL FOOTBALL (that actually uses your foot for the game), is the most popular sport in the world, i read somewhedre that 70% of the world have played football before. As more American football, it's mostly just American.

And Winning Eleven will only sell well in Japan...

It may not sell as well in the 2nd half of 2005 because Madden '06 is out.
That reminds me... (rushes out to Best Buy).

What's the criteria to become a greatest hits game?

Toronado
Been out for at least a year and sold a million copies.
OK, because I thought that it was just sold a million copies. You would think they could make a special exception for something that sells this well.

I know people who haven't bought it yet just because they are waiting for it to go Greatest Hits.

IMO GT4 wil keep selling and selling 'til GT5 is out and even after that. Just because Madden and FIFA etc. comes out GT4 won't drop, it's such a different market. Those games come out EVERY year. A GT-game comes out ever (hmm let's see, every five years?) and is so much higher quality that it lasts through all of that... 👍

its gotta be selling considerably well, considering the used copies are still $40 and new is still $50. (at stores around me)
I know this because i'm STILL waiting for the price to go down... its kinda anoying.
the copy i have is borrowed from a friend. :/

i'm sure i've contributed my fair share to those greedy bastards at pd. i bought three copies so far of gt 4. first one, let my friend borrow for a day...which turned into a week, which turned into "i don't know what happened, man, but here you go." broken. number two, he bought me and two days later my dog somehow got a hold of it. broken. number three, i'm currently on but i don't doubt something terrible happening to it. maybe pd placed a curse on the discs because they know people would get addicted. anyway...i just wish target would exchange for destroyed discs.

plus, madden 06 is for suckers. all you're doing is paying 50 bucks for a couple of extra players and some stupid precision passing thing. i played it and it's almost the exact same game as any other football game. ea sports is just trying to make a quick buck by throwing out the same old crap to the incompetent buying public.

Gamefly is $24.99 for members. I have no clue what it is for non members.

Which is why I only buy it every two to three years. Don't forget EA bought up the NFL license so no one else could compete because ESPN NFL 2K5 last year was only $29.99 new.

Actually it was only $19.99 new, which is why i bought it, and it's probably the best game of any genre you can buy for twenty bucks brand new. and yeah, because it was so good, ea knew they wouldnt have sold anywhere near as much of madden 06 if sega came out with nfl 2k6.

but back on topic...gran turismo 4 should be less than 50 dollars now. i'm almost positive im gonna have to buy another copy.

i payed 4 bucks for my copy and its legit from game stop :)

well i did trade in 5 old ps2 games for it so all i had to pay was taxes

i would of payed full price but i was stuck for cash so i gave gamestop a try and thats what happened 👍 :) 👍

Well said!
Most of the rest of the world has no interest in American "football", even in a video game where you can make 3 hours of boredom that should technically only take 1 hour in real life, fit into 6 minutes or so. No commercials, no cheerleaders, no endless 30s slowmo loops of O's & X's and curly arrows being drawn on the screen after every 10s of "actual" action! :trouble:
FIFA on the other hand might appeal to the other 5 & 3/4 billion people on the planet, who know what Football really is.
Although probably only 2 or 3% own a gaming system! :sly:

I speak in a minority though, my PS2 only knows that 2 games exist, GT3 & GT4!!!!
For the elder generation of gamers the GT series is ideal, great value for money, and certainly something that you can't go bragging about completing in a day.
For the brats out there that want a game that'll hold their attention for 2 minutes and then be tossed aside 'cos its too hard etc, etc, well, they're in the wrong place with GT, but hey, PD will take their money & the sales figures too! This is a game that requires serious effort and time to become good at, but since most people can operate a steering wheel and pedals, it doesn't put off the people who are normally turned away from videogames, thinking that they'll have to learn endless button combinations for "special" moves! As far as kids go, who didn't want to be a racing driver when they grew up?!!!! This is fun & relatively (except for the lack of damage) realistic practice. You can't get that from a videogame for aspiring Football players, American or otherwise!

Anyway, that's my 2 cents, take it or leave it!!! GT4 will keep on selling well!!!!

I've been an on-off Futbol/Football/Soccer fan myself... but I think the American game has its charms. Just watched the Longest Yard, and damn... that made me want to kick ass! ...international football, on the other hand, is a lot like hockey... low scores, ballet-like movements and dazzling down-court dashes, and the occassional fistfight. It's fun, but just way too long.

Driving will always be > than Sports Games... because it's not limited to specific regional markets... and you can always go outside and play a pick-up game of football or basketball with your buds, but with today's gas prices and bad traffic, you can't always go out for a mad thrash in your car. :(

Hmmm, its 90 minutes of vitually non-stop action, versus what should actually be 60 minutes of action and takes 3 hours or more to complete. Did you know that in the average game of American football there is actually about 14 minutes of "play"? Its not the rest of the world's fault that some of you can't concentrate for more than 20s without a break!!!!;) And with 97 or so different players! Not 11 - 15 men running themselves ragged for the full duration?
Ok, so soccer is low scoring, but then why does high scoring make a game more interesting? Take Basketball, its pretty predictable even if it is high scoring.....
7ft guy runs down court slams into basket....2pts. Other team gets the ball....7ft guy from the other team slams into basket 2pts....etc etc. Just because its high scoring doesn't make it exciting! Impose a 5ft player height limit on Basketball & it'd be a lot more entertaining! :sly:

@ niky take this with a huge pinch of salt!!! I'm just **** stirring! I agree, driving games > other sports simulations! Some of them are awful, but just because the sports are too complex to model! Take rugby or cricket for example, 2 simulations that haven't sold well at all. Go on, I'll let you say it....."speaking of dull sports, what about cricket.....etc, etc"!!!!!:p
P.S. Love your "Road & Trek" articles in the Race Reports forum! 👍

 ...that's why I'm an on-off fan. I love the action, but it's still frustrating how long it is... considering that what seems to be a 1-0 win could change at any second within that 90 minutes (plus). You're right about American sports, though... over an hour to get through even less action... but it's frenetic when the action does happen... I think all American sports are designed with commercial breaks in mind! :dopey:

How do you simulate cricket without tea-time? It's impossible!
