How's everybody doing so far? SLS AMG event

I agree that GT wanted to protect David Coultard's times by moving everyone to Comfort Soft tires... it didn't work because his time is still getting destroyed by the best GT drivers.
👎 This is a stupid comment.

If DC times are being destroyed now, that means that they could also have been beaten on the day. What if one of the guys at the top of the leaderboard now had been there on the day? DC would have been beaten, that's what. The drivers were chosen on a random basis and no one could have known in advance how good any of them were. The fact it was so close on the day, irrespective of who ultimately won, shows how close the challenge was.

People, get it - sport tires give you too much grip, comforts are the equivalent of normal street tires (and PD has taken some time to realise that) so stop saying stuff like "PD did that to protect DC's time" since that makes you look like a total :dunce: who has never driven a car.

Comforts - normal street tires
Sports - high performance street tires
Racing - racing slicks

And also one more thing:
Cutting doesn't change anything! The guys who are on top now with cutting would be on top without. Those guys are some of the fastest guys on GT5 and you gotta pay some respect, besides - the chicago cut only gives you about 0.5 seconds which means that top guys are running 1:14.5xx legit.

Couldn't agree more. What is annoying is the fact that GT equates the comfort soft tires to being equivalent to the actual tires on the real car. I equate comfort soft tires to a car like a Vitz or Mini. A performance vehicle has stock tires that are much more likely to be sports medium or soft. GT just didn't want anybody destroying DC's lap time.

Real life lap records disagree with you. If lap times are taken in to account then comfort softs are actually quite close to the real thing. I have myself tested SLS against it's Fuji and Nordschleife lap times in the game using just sport hards and it destroyed the real life lap times even though i only allowed myself couple of laps to try it. :p

It's a shame AS is now the weapon of choice, but oh well, just makes it far too easy to control, the best time I have so far is a 1'14.106, driven with a rather rank T1 effort of .13 ish, seen a zillion .0xx's and a handful of .9s, so its only a matter of time before one of us join Elder in the exclusive 1'13 club.

@daan, good idea, how about we all give it a go, following the rules of the actual live event, especially you Zoky. Give it 10 laps, with no cheats at all, daan will be posting pictures of how to take the questionable corners in a clean fashion.

I did think about doing this earlier but never got round to it. We were using Arcade > Time Trial at the event. I may start the contest using arcade mode instead of the seasonal event. What do you think? I hadn't noticed any differences between the 2 modes but I did go quicker in the seasonal than I did in arcade mode.

You sure about this?
I didn't sign up but I don't believe you were asked for any info that would indicate how fast you were in GT5.

You had to give your name though.
Random is never random in my experience, in fact at the last SLS competition at Merc world there was a degree of nepotism in the random final spot for the SLS drive, the event organisers Dad! Guess who his guest was? lol
The very first laps I did on this with no ghost with no cut and a completely new rig since I've moved was mid-15's and I'm not the best player out there, there's plenty quicker. So DC beating the gamers? What a joke.

Actually meant if you were sure the pick was random. (quoted too much, sorry) But never mind.

I was able to Gold the event (1:17.9xx), but I don't think I could do any better nor sustain with the tires they supply you for the race. Not saying it's improper to use them, I'm just not used to them. And plus, I was able to reduce 2-3 tenths of a second through Chicago, 1-2 tenths on Hammerhead, and a couple more from the Follow-Through to Bacharach. That should reduce my last time to around 5 tenths to an entire second. The hardest part is to keep the car from spinning out at high speeds due to the low grip. That goes for exiting Hammerhead and Chicago, which is a problem for me to getting lower times.

And respect for the top 100. I have no idea how they got such low times 👍

No cuts? How do you know? Feel free to send me that replay and I'll check it for you according to the rules that we were running on the day. The rules for the actual event were different to the rules of the Seasonal TT.

My best time so far is a 1 16 200 without abs driving cockpit view and no hud lol.Gotta look at the speedometer inside the car makes it more fun for me not always knowing exactly how fast your going :) I use the ds3 sensitivity 2. if i did the little finish line trick it would only take off like .400 but i just do it for fun dont care about my rank.

The event should never of happened the way it is since PD just can't put all the variables together to match virtual to reality. DC gets away with a lot in having better tyres and not disqualified for cutting a few corners that you can't in GT5 without disqualifying your lap.

It was a nice try, but I absolutely refuse to drive any performance car with GT5's comfort tyres. It would have been more interesting to have DC put in his lap with the game too, and see how he competes!

So, because you can't handle comforts PD did it wrong?

And if you want to, you can cut Chicago, and also get some extra speed crossing the start line.

Whiners will whine.

I'm not whining, this game rocks, but what I was expressing to others who whine, is that it is a game, not real life and therefore the two will always have incompatibilities.

Can someone please confirm if this event is tailored for DS3 gamepad users, (1:14:xx - 1:16 a plenty, whereas G25 users like me are finding this virtually impossible to break 1:18 safely? (atill at 1:18:10 after 100 attemps),

holy hell, PD. please look into this. (it could be me, but I am A-40 & all Licenses AMG Touring events all golded. exept for vettel still at bronze.)

but comfort tires on G25, and most online events, like driving a crazy carpet on wet bananas.

& a big FU for not allowing brake bias adjustments in this seasonal.
& ok maybe I'm old.
/damn you PD

I need help at negotiating the last high speed left bend , I reach 205-210 km/hr but I often either overshoot the entrance -by two feet of so, (coming to a complete stop at the invisible wall, for I don't want to scratch this car lol, ) or I come in too short, and then mess up the time to correct it. Very difficult turn for me, and it's hard to see the entrance appear. The use of the large black X-Mark is beginning to help me,

Should I be entering wide, or should i initially approach the turn starting from the middle of the track perhaps?

I am losing a good 1.5 seconds here, to turn my 1:18 into a 1:16-1:17

I have such a headache from the screeching tires.

and why is it I get a better lap time when my tires are blue and cold? what the hell PD? really starting to get discouraged here.

Not plenty quicker in the UK, Well only 1 and that is Edward going by GT Academy and the ranking for this seasonal.

If I upload EDDSKILL's 1:14.747 lap, could you tell me if it is valid or not. He did that early on so he should be able to improve on that by about 3 tenths. I think the lap could be marginal in some places as far as no cutting goes.

The top times are being done by G25, G27 and DFGT users and other wheel users. It would take a top pad player to do 1:14's.

I want to ask Dan, do you find the G27 has helped you drive faster or more consistently at all or is it more or less similar levels to a DFGT? Is it much quieter and also is turn in quicker and smoother? I ask because I know you are probably the fastest with a DFGT wheel.

Just started on this event and i think it´s great. We didn´t had this worldwide competition since GT Academy, but Academy this year was split into different time trials, lots of rearrengments because of problems and this reminds me of the Indy TT.

Still in the 1´15´5 range, but there´s lots to be had on the lap, specially in the section after the Hammerhead.

I´ll watch your video tonight to see your lap:tup:

BTW, we should try to convince Veilsidebr to stop being a little bitch and use ABS, so he can have a proper go at this one.

I know how you feel about him crashing you at Monaco, but i´m sure it would be fun to have to old WRS folks going at it again.

Ps: is everybody using the extra space before the start of the lap to do a standing start and get more speed? It does have it´s benefits, but it´s a pain to have to restart each time, park, reverse, and then go.

What view do you use?
I own a g25 and was able to do a 1.17.005 with the interior view (my normal view).
I changed to the Bumper cam and was able to go .8 faster lowering it to a 1.16.235.
It still isn't Alien fast but with no change in my driving style or controller option I was faster.

I always use bonnet view, in this case, seeing the front hood of the car. I am accustomed to driving all the cars like this.

Jai
Amazing time!

That is his second sub 14 time which can be seen on the leaderboards. I wonder if he did any that were sub 14 times but were slower than his best. You must feel like you are reaching insanity when you are doing them times and consistently coming close to beating your best time.

Thank you Rob.

Your time may not be alien fast but it does prove that without the pressure of being in the room, without Legard shouting and being able to use your own wheel, you've now beaten DC's time. I wonder what time Jason has done now...?

I snook into the 1'14's with the pad, by a few thousanths. :dopey:

Without a doubt the wheel is faster, probably by a few tenths.
I tried the gt academies with the pad first cos its a pain for me to take out the wheel. But then I always went faster with the wheel after a day or two practice

Ultimately and I mean utimately the pad is as fast as the wheel but you have to be a specialist at both to get those results. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4stCEdI09Sw this video and some of the times we've seen show this.

I remember seeing that video. Amazing lap. I think Tidgney could give EDDSKILL good competition with a pad though.

Anyway talking of EDDSKILL, he has done a time finally in the 13's but the time is just 0.005 off from gaining global top spot.
