Why does everybody want damage? Am I the only one who gives a rat's behind about damage? Forget damage, more tracks!, more tracks!
It's just a Prologue. As the number of tracks has grown with each iteration I can assume we will have more in GT5. I mean, we already have Daytona, Eiger, and London. And if I recall they confirmed (or was that rumor) that they were working on Indianapolis.
Anyway, as it stands we already have three new tracks and can assume that you can just add that to the number of tracks in GT4 for GT5. Prologue will not be an update for everything until it becomes GT5. It is a test bed for new things.
Right now we are testing online.
We are testing proper tri-oval with in-field road course in Daytona, which should show that Indianapolis would work too.
We are testing London.
We are testing Eiger.
We will be testing damage.
We will be testing damage online.
We will be testing custom.private lobbies/races.
If Home comes out in time we will probably test the Home interface.
You guys rather have damage than 2 more tracks, wtf?
No one said that, but the article was about damage and not tracks, so we are staying on topic by discussing the possibility of damage.
What was that? A pause in your typing to think? Thinking before typing is a good idea, so I applaud you, but thinking out your entire post before typing is even better.
I mean what is the point? Go play some burnout or Motor Storm. I want to race. on many tracks. Are you guys going to organise a Destruction Derby if there is damage?
Find me one person who said, "Kewl, I kin rek carz now like Burnout!!!!11one11!" No, we want realism in our simulator. Damage when you make a mistake is a part of that.
Am I going to get hit more if there is damage? More people ramming into me?
Sorry, I'm new here, so I should shut it, but this has been bothering me for a while.
My crystal ball is dirty so I can't see but I would guess no.
Are these the same folks that want in-game XMB for ps3? wtf?
You know, when I missed a chat request from a former GTP member that I got along with very well before he left I was somewhat upset. The ability to have answered that would have been nice. And what someone wanting more PS3 functionality (how can that ever be bad?) has to do with damage in Gran Turismo is beyond me.
Just gimme more games, wireless light gun, wireless negcon, better dual shock compatability for ps1 games like Side by Side Special 2000, my fav ps1 game, which only supports digital on the ps3, but on ps1 dual shock analog is supported!
And you are way, way, way off topic. But I will address one thing for you and hopefully help you out with your PS1 game.
I do not have a Dualshock yet, because they aren't available here yet. But I do know that in PS1 games you can turn analog mode on. Hit the PS button and go down to controller settings. One of the options is to turn analog mode on or off, just like the original dual shock had. The default is digital mode, just like the original Dual Shock was.
So, analog mode is supported on the PS3. Anything you think is missing you should look for in the manual or just try bringing up every related option menu you can find. It might not be missing. But feel free to bring these questions up in the PS3 thread. We do like to help.
I only hope time penalties will go at this point too.
If your car is damaged, your time is impacted, hence no need to impose additional time penalties.
Don't have Prologue yet, so I can't judge, but if damage is correctly done there will be instances where contact can damage one car and not another. Sometimes a penalty is still necessary, and sometimes it is needed, even if the perpetrator's car gets equally damaged.
A flag system would be best I think. That way instead of a penalty it is a drive through the pits, or even a stop and go. I guess the AI would have to take over as you come up on pit lane to enforce this.
I hope that the damage modelling will be as accurate as possible, and cars end up as write off when damaged badly enough.
I think I heard that each car was modeled using like 200 individual parts.
If I am not mistaken about that, then I hope it was done that way in order to have each part be individually affected and deformable, making damage appear very accurate. The way Yamauchi talks in the video posted on the News page I had the suspicion that damage was actually done, or almost, and they were just waiting to get the few hesitant manufacturers to come around.
Although, I am sure they will never be able to show cockpit intrusion or similar deadly kinds of things happening, especially now that we can clearly be or see the driver.
