i hope this does come true, that way punters from online races become a bit more tame.
and it just adds to the realism. i hope they also put in forced pit entry with 10 second penalties and black flags. go pd go!

So I never got taken out on the first corner in forza2 over and over again? I did.

Damage does not change a persons behavior. People will still crash into you all time the, in the end people just turn it off.

This is why you don't play random internet matches with damage enabled. This is why they're including the private room features at the same time the damage update comes through.

And besides - the first turn in any real life race is the most dangerous. At most races with 16+ cars, that first turn usually ends up with quite a few wiping out if they're not careful, at the least.

Even worse... Need For Speed ProStreet.:yuck:

I mean, almost no performance damage, and bad cosmetic damge, they might as well have left it out, since it's just annoying.

Especially in the PS2 version! it sucks
:yuck:

the only nice thing about that one is the bumper coming off the Supra!

Yup... And the "smiling" RX-7

I don't know... But it looks nice!
I hope that's what we might see at the first corner of maybe Fuji or somethin' online!:dopey:

Why does everybody want damage? Am I the only one who gives a rat's behind about damage? Forget damage, more tracks!, more tracks!
You guys rather have damage than 2 more tracks, wtf?
Silence.
I mean what is the point? Go play some burnout or Motor Storm. I want to race. on many tracks. Are you guys going to organise a Destruction Derby if there is damage?
Am I going to get hit more if there is damage? More people ramming into me?
Sorry, I'm new here, so I should shut it, but this has been bothering me for a while.
Are these the same folks that want in-game XMB for ps3? wtf?
*snip*
PD wants to make a realistic racesim. Damage is part of the real world. Some of us GT-players are hard core race simmers (I stopped playing pc games because updating a pc all the time is too expensive), so we want to have damamge. What if PD implements an on/off switch in the game? => Damage on or off, should that satisfy you more? Don't forget that PD still wants the best racing game. All the other games have damage, so GT must have damage as well. And not just damage but real time damage.

:)

I just hope they don't forgo a photo mode for the full version in the midst of adding these new features. It wouldn't be a horrible thing if it were added in an update at some point after the full game is released, though, just so long as it does get in.

I'm rather excited, and a bit anxious about damage finally making it into Gran Turismo. On the one hand, it will do wonders towards making this "The Real Driving Simulator," and some of the challenges that result will be epic.

On the other hand, this means I'll have to seriously learn to clean up my racing line. I'm not horrible, but I frequently tap walls on certain corners, and on others I have a tendency to push it too hard and lose control. One thing is for sure though, this will almost certainly add an element of fear, and though it may not be fear for your own life, it will definitely add to the immersion.

So is my 12 yr old son. He plays Burnout a lot.

I think this is one of the best relevant posts to the discussion yet.

Oh by the way people - private rooms. Leave the random public race orgies to the noobs.

I don't mind damage if it's done realistically. I looked at damage in FM2, it's kinda laughable (i see the point in implementing it but c'mon). If you crash head on to a wall at 100mph, that would completely total the front end of your car and you just don't drive away from a crash like that. hopefully, in GT5 a crash would be real and costly and would hopefully improve my driving. but i also like t o have the option to turn it off but that would probably be in arcade mode. if you can turn it off in gran tourismo mode: that would just be silly.
of course, in my list of priority PD needs to address some of the graphic inconsistencies in GT5P: the screen tearing and frame rate drop. improve the graphic on the track like daytona (it's good but it can be so much better). if i have the tracks in GT4, I'd be happy. no custom paint job and liveries because the result is often atrocious. no cars deserve sticker happy nor colour blind owners.

Some form of damage to the engine from over reving it, over heating, etc would be nice in GT5, it'll add realism.

Like someone suggested already, I really hope that PD release server binaries so you could host your own servers, like cs/quake/ut/cod etc etc, so you could setup your private passworded server and give it out to your friends :D

(until they fix private lobbies ofcourse but I think it would still be a good idea because you'd be in control of everything)

I wonder how far will they take damage

1. Can you destroy your car to the point where you must retire?

2. Will there be just body damage, and will it affect the handling?

3. Can all damage be fixed in the pits to the point where it is like new, and how long will it take?

4. Does damage dissappear after a race or do you need to pay to fix it?

1. I really hope so, I think it would add some of that crucial fear that's a part of pushing a car to the limits. Perhaps only in private lobbies and offline?

2. Hopefully internals too, over-revved engine for example, worn brakes maybe?

3. This is a tough area I think. Magical rejuvenating cars aren't that realistic, but then, they can't model pit crews replacing a set of brake discs!

4. Again, I think this ties in with number 1, pay to fix. Pay a lot to fix it too.

Who polices the hosts? Picture this, you're online on the last lap of a 50 lap race and you've just wrestled the lead from someone and as you're about to cross the finish line the host decides to 'kick you out'
Too bad.
Then you never race on that hosts private races again. Done. If he keeps it up eventually he won't be able to host his own races.

Look, lame hosts happen, but they are fewer than cheaters and griefers.

I am basing my thought on how Warhawk works. Dedicated servers open to the public are the only way you can rank up. So for GT have dedicated servers be the only places you can actually get on leaderboards. Now, a private server can be used as a ranked server, but the host is not allowed to play.

On private player servers the host can kick, and two kicks from one server gets you a ban. The thing is that I have only been kicked three times. Once by a host that sounded young and even called himself A_Five_YR_Old_Kid. He kept spawning near to where I was trying to hold a zone so every time he came running up I hit him with a grenade. He kicked me. It was poor sportsmanship on his part. The other two kicks were from the same server where the guy was hosting a ranked server and then using it to allow his friends to rank up. They were cheating in general and Incognito has supposedly begun cracking down on this kind of behavior. I just know I see it a lot less.

So, yeah, you will have bad sports hosts, but they are few and far between.

Besides, part of what I think will be great with this community here at GTP is that I have a feeling I will be able to join a race with GTP members and any bad sportsmanlike conduct will get them called out and possibly ostracized.

lobbies are a must have, it's a real pain having to quit the game just to read or answer messages. private races with the ability to blacklist the "bashers" is the way folward
