Try telling that to 7 times F1 world champion Michael Schumacher.

11 F1 World Titles in that picture ;)

Depends which driver haha! So far the best lap I've done is a 24.388 but I think a 24.1 is possible, and maybe 23.9 if you tune the gears better 👍
Should I lift off 50% or more (or less) through the corners on the Kart Arena and Gran Turismo Arena? Thank you for the help if you're willing to advise, Bandit.👍

It depends on which corners. Under braking be careful not to brake too hard, otherwise you'll lock the brakes and go straight on. Generally speaking you want to have the kart perfectly balanced at all times, this involves sliding it on the limit. You want to apply just enough throttle (probably as you're coming off the brakes) to get the karts back end to slide a little. Then you'll have to catch the slide with a small amount of opposite lock, and coming out of the corner, balance the kart so it's almost sliding and straighten up as early as possible to regain traction :)
Hopefully I'll be able to get a video out soon, I'll make one when I've spent a bit more time on track 👍

You do realise that if you keep it on the track and drive it steadily you will manage to drive it no problem

OMG, yet another dumb ass remark - again, why didn't I think of that?!!! Seriously people, if the only 'advice' you can dispense is the bleedin' obvious then save your keyboard some wear and just say nothing!

How does one describe the series of infinitesimal inputs that go into driving quickly? Most of it is experience in knowing where to be on the track at all times and learning what the game's various feedbacks are in tactile feel, visual and sound and responding on the fly and then responding correctly to that feedback. No two laps are the same and everything happens so fast it would be near impossible to describe and if you could, it would so so long winded you'd never be able to take that knowledge to the track. There is a shorter answer though - practice!!

I did all the kart races ASAP to get them overwith. I had a perfect win record, but now have five losses because of karts (especially shifters).

but all the events are gold now and I never have to touch those things again

+1 agreed. It depends on corner entry and the speed leading into it. Some corners you can overlay the gas with a small amount of brakes just to get bite in the front. I don't have one of the kart arena but I'll post an online race me and my friends did. Take note of varying entry speeds and rotation into higher speed corners vs. low speed. The computer tells you turn one is 3rd but in a kart it's actually 4th but you have to be on the limit!

The thing that's tricky is that a kart has a very, very narrow band in which slip angle works, unlike a street car that you can rotate a large amount and get a similar performance vs a small degree of rotation. the bell curve on a kart in more like a needle point in terms of the limit, you find that point and you'll love the karts.

HAHAHAHA! I done that just to wind you up because you are so easily wound up and angry all the time.

I used to enjoy them until my game started freezing every time I finish a kart race :(

I see this as another prime example of how PD expect everyone to have wheels. Sorry but 90% of console players have normal controllers, and yes whilst this is higher for GT users, it's still majorly unfair that people with controllers have a disadvantage, but then again PD obviously don't mind people paying for advantages, seeing now they too have jumped on the bandwagon of microtransactions.

I've had fun with the karts. the hard part is knowing how fast you can go into a corner, it is very easy to go in too fast.
they are annoying because you don't know it the thing will grip sometimes you gas it hard and it sticks.
Overall you don't know how aggressive you need to be, one lap it grips the next it spins or brakes straight into a wall.

Shifter karts are the best as you can accelerate better and not wait until it gets into the power band and the others.

I won them from 2nd try.. I didnt adjust anything.. maybe its because I drive real carts time to time.. :)

they could be even harder... But I have to admit.. I did cheat a bit.. I hit the AI one or two times..

like i stated. if youre past 10, grow up. these guys look like absolute tools
You've just offended a lot of people... A 10 year old wouldn't even be tall enough to be able to drive a full size racing kart, your point is invalid.

I smell troll, but I think there is a serious gap in your motorsports knowledge.

That's ok, though, we all have learn from somewhere...

I won them on the first try :P

I bumped and got bumped a few times, but nothing serious. Seriously intense stuff though.

Keep at it. It's rewarding, even though shifter karts at Gran Turismo Arena can go straight to Hell. Holy crap that was hard. So many attempts!

Not a fan of the Karts. They're part of the game I have to accept, but wish they were left behind in GT5. Bring back the endurance races.

I'm not a fan of the kart races either. I have a wheel but can actually do better with the DS3. I'm stuck on one race each in both the B & A races. I end up getting mad and then go grind for more credits or just quit the game all together and put GT5 back in.

PD doesn't get it. You would think that after 15 years of input from fans of the GT series they would have an idea of how we would be able to play the games. They don't care and won't care unless GT stops selling. I know in my area pre-orders for GT6 were the lowest of any games in the past. Maybe people are waiting for it to come out on the PS4. As for me I won't be buying a PS4 and if there is a GT7, GT6 will be the last game in the Gran Turismo series I own.

I am grateful I still have a good running PS2 so I can still play GT2, 3 & 4. I can still build hybrids and very shortly will be building hybrids in GT5 again. So unless PD does some really great so we can make credits faster or give us free DLC, I won't be spending hours playing GT6 like I have with the rest of Gran Turismo.

Hey myself and some friends will be on karting tonight at 9pm est with the shifters, room name will be "shifter karts or die." Join us, we race hard but clean. We need more people!

Most kids are in bed by 9PM

Anyone else struggle with these? They are such a pain. But I have to complete them to close out certain career levels. :banghead:
So do I, I think they aren't important at all for a racing game.

Cannot seem to win on the smaller courses with the 100 cc, what annoys me the most is, i hit an ai, it goes on, i spin off, i go over a curve, i spin off the ai goes on.

Seemed to be easy on the G27 wheel.

Recently I've been going to an outdoor kart track about an hour south of me. It's a professional facility that also features a road car track, as well as a motorcycle track. They have pretty good gas-powered rental karts. The Willow Springs track in the shifter kart series reminds me a lot of that outdoor track I've been on. Willow Springs is much longer though.

After this real-world experience, I think the Kart physics in Gran Turismo are pretty good, and the karts exhibit a lot of the same characteristics and require the same driving skill.

Good gas powered karts can get away from you real fast, especially after hitting a straightaway at almost 50mph, and not braking enough (there's a chicane at the end of the straight at my outdoor track). It's very easy to lose the back end, or enter a turn too fast and "plow" the front tires.

It's about finding the edge of grip on every turn, only drifting when necessary (vary rarely) and keeping up your momentum. I think Gran Turismo captures that quite well.

The AI however, too easy to overtake on the turns.

I did get frustrated, at first, on the new kart tracks. Of course that happens on any new track, like Ascari. Once I learn the track (required about five races at Willow Springs) it starts getting too easy. Of course, at Willow Springs, if you mess up and run off, you're kinda screwed because you loose all the steering if you're going over 10mph.

I do this in Gran Turismo with a nice wheel and pedals with very "fluid" magnetic sensors--I couldn't imagine trying to do this with a controller.

I personally love the karting in GT5 because it's the only real-life motorsports experience I have. I've been to at least two of those electric indoor karting locations in my town, as well as a gas-powered karting event at a local racetrack. The karts I've been in reach about 45 MPH and generate 1.5 lateral G's. It's interesting how similar the experience in GT5 feels.

EDIT: Slightly tree'd by ApexVGear :)

Hey. I just did a 24.497 :sly: Just need another tenth to get you! :p

Look, these have been tough, particularly the 100's. It was a matter of going at 'em over and over, learning a little more each lap, losing a couple from 1st possie at the final turn, getting tipped sideways by arsehole AI, and just persevering until I golded 'em. Sometimes the leader would come back to me, other times he stayed out front. It depended on how constant a margin I was able to maintain.

Never to be even considered again, just the 125's to go now.
