 Y'know..I would only be so lucky as to WATCH a race, let alone think it's nothing to race, as you do..Its crazy.. :trouble:

Tom, what is your usual corner entry and exit speeds for those hairpins? My stock accord can't go more than 60 kmh :D

EDIT: Oops, wrong conversion. I can only go 40 kmh :D (that's 25mph)

OK Tom.... thats it! You gotta get yourself a Camera now and take photos of yourself, your car, your dad, and maybe your ownself on some of the touges..... because all the stuff that you talk about just made me go "h*ck! IS it real???"

No offence, its just that all this sounded too familiar with the "Initial D thingy" don't you think?? Sorry.. I just getting anxious to WATCH it rather than read it....

tom every word of yours makes my mouth dribble with jelousy. Even though im too young too drive still.

and when i look at the cars you own, jeese... i cant explain!
Thank you for the mouth dribbling. How old are you since you're too young to drive... start now, just don't get caught. ;)

Well I've been doing these battles for a long time now... they're just things to do that get me away from the life of boredom. A lot of people asked me if I'm nervious, but to be honest... now I'm not. When I first started, I was extremely nervious, because my reputation is based on my driving skills. I did great my first battle and I wasn't nearly as good as I am today and I still impressed a lot of the spectators. Time after time I was challenged and it just became a habit that every weekend, I'd at least race once. It's been slower for me lately since I've been so busy with the cars.

Depending on the circuit or touge. Well let me think. If you've played Kaido Battle or watched Initial D you will be familiar with Iroha-zaka. If you're not familiar with it... it's a barrage of hairpins that just keeping coming at you. What I do, is this: The first hairpin comes after a few S-curves which I'm still accelerating on. I start braking at 120-140km/h, and start to slide into the corner while the street is still going straight. I downshift to 2nd gear and take the turn at around 60-80km/h. It's hard for an exact amount because I'm not focusing on my speedometer so I might be off by a few km/hs. An Accord is not going to get incredible entry speeds because of weight and mostly it's drivetrain. How long have you been racing mountain passes?

I get that a lot. Especially the Initial D thing, but you have to realize that the cartoon is basically the closest thing to real life... other than the drivers and things like that. But it uses the same system as the cartoon.

Okay, now that that's done... here's what happened tonight. The guy who e-mailed me has an AE86 Levin. I knew this before I saw it. I also knew it was pretty quick, so it wasn't going to be easy. Before the race everyone did a few laps just for practice. My dad absolutely took over the uphill though. He's good. But enough about that bastard, this is how the race went. We both started at the same time from a 10 second countdown. He took the lead in the beginning which I thought was almost impossible for another AE86 (except my dad's) to overtake me from the launch. He was pretty good other than the fact that he turned slowly. And it was pretty hard to pass him because of the narrow road. About 70% done with the race, he did something wrong. I don't know if he just lost concentration or whatever, but on one of the easiest hairpins (3rd gear hairpin) he understeered a whole lot and almost hit the outside wall while I just "gripped" the inside corner. After that I just left him. So it was fun while it lasted... I knew as long as I kept up with him, I would've won because that's how the rules are, but I have this thing of passing people because it makes me feel so good when I do it. Well I'm going to stay up for a little while longer, then I must sleep.

Man lol i think i gotta agree with Venom_supra im in the same situation as him with the too young to drive thing. I do drive tho at my cabin on the gravel roads its kind of fun with my dads Chevy Tracker. its a pretty lame car but its rwd and my dad lets me do donuts in the open fields so yea i kind of drive lol. I hope one day to move to japan for a couple years or so just because of well, you know all the cars and just the awesomeness of JDM stuff.

I've played both games. Kaido Battle is more realistic, so I'll explain how I took the hairpains with a stock CL1 (I got a CG6, similar to a CF4 and is basically half as powerful as the CL1). Without using the e-brake, the most I can go is 55-60 kmh in the dai-ni iroha-zaka downhill, and that's the first hairpin. There is just so much understeer through that car. After I got LV1 suspension and stiffed basically everything, it turned a little better, but most of the time I used over 100% of traction and understeered.

Now, for a stock CG6, 15-25 mph (something like 25-40 kmh) is the most I can go. My e-brake won't work because of steel wheels and weak rear brake pads. I don't "race", I just practice to get the most out of a stock car, reading racing lines for a touge, and to miminize the apex distance. You know, skills that apply for all cars, and some drivetrain specific skills, like left foot braking is useful for mininize traction loss, stuff like that. So far I can get down to less than 1 inch between the guardrail and the side mirror. This is where Initial D and all the touge games misrepresented. The side mirrors will always be in your way to get any closer to the guardrail. Not to mention that stupid bar between the side window and the front window. I hate that frickin bar. It was like half a year since I last went to a mountain pass, but I imagine there will be people driving like crazy on open roads and residential areas, and it's getting increasingly dangerous compared to Iroha-zaka (I don't see any houses :D).

Well there's a huge difference in the game and in reality. In the game, you don't really care if you hit the walls, although on the Ca and CaTa battles, you do get pissed when you end up losing 5000pts. In reality, normal people drive with a small margin of safety... Depending on the race, I usually do, but when I get the lead, I just pretend nobody is behind me and give it all I got. But you did make a good point of the games.

I know it's different. Like you said, no repairs from hitting the wall, and that's why people go suicidal when they drive in a video game. The cockpit view is a huge factor also. 99% of the games, even GT3, the view is at the dead center of the car, and I don't have a Batmobile. About the only games that simulates real driving views are Battle Gear 2 and Need for Speed 1.

Anyway, I want to make my CG6 to turn faster to make up the full use of the H23A engine. My current goal is to go 40-45 mph (64-72kmh) in a suggested 25mph (40 kmh) turn. Right now I can go 30 (48kmh) with stock setup. The car is automatic, no ABS, open differential, and is unmodified for the past 4 years. Brake rotors/pads, 17" wheels and coilovers are a must, which costs like $2000 USD. Is there anything else I need?

Like he's said four hundred times before, he doesn't own a camera. Doesn't have the spare cash lying around to buy one. And this question will probably pop up another four hundred times.

Yeah I'm 400% sure it'll pop up again. Seriously, if I didn't race for a month... I can afford it with no problems. But I just HAVE to race... it's part of my reputation. My dad will force me to come with him to the circuits... even if I don't have the money for gasoline or tyres, he pays for it and expects 110% back... and it's not even my choice to go racing.

I got the car towed back from the paintjob and my oh my is it gorgeous. I also picked up my new tyres today and installed them about an hour ago. The tyre choice is Advan's Neova A048 (225/45ZR17 = Front) (225/40ZR18 = Rear). We're going to test the car out Monday at Tsukuba. I think this is going to be my last project of the year since Winter is coming, and that means no more fun for me... and NO, I have no skills in the snow... incase you were wondering. I'm going to do something with a few friends so I'm going to head on out. Bye.

hello fellow melbournian :D welcome..

and i would say that is very difficult, you would have minimum grip, and it would be too dangerous to even try!

Tom, im turning 15 next month, my friend is around the same age and his dad has been teaching him to drive, he is better than his 18 year old sister lol!

maybe ill ask my dad to lemme try one day.

What is the permit or license age over there.... im 14 and here in TN the permit to start learning is 15 and you get ur license in 16... i hope it dont change or ill be extremely piss off... thank you

People driving before legal age is a lot more common than a lot of people think. Especially the police, heh. Having done this myself, and tried to be a real smartass and drift back when I thought I was the hottest thing alive, it's not a particularly great idea to go out and think that once you know or understeer, you can run the mountains/streets like a pro.

So until I fix myself up a proper car, and get some proper racing skills instead of what is currently quite a hodgepodge mess of ideas, I can honestly say I don't have any desire to do real drifting or racing, it's just too dangerous :P

Later, though. Well. That's another matter.

you live in australia, i don't know the cops over there and how many there are and there intentions but I'm sure the cops are a little easy like in japan why alot of people over there can get away with driving before the legal age. A couple people i know drive before they have there liscense and one got cought casue he got in an accident and drove off and some cops just pull u over if u look young. I have 6 months till i get my liscense and i won't dare drive illegally.

How difficult is it to drift in the snow?
I was joking... I don't even attempt it. I wish I could rally race, but it's not my style. You should see how slow I drive in the snow... seriously, I get passed by old people.

Well he's being coached and I'm sure his dad is a good driver. I'd rather not comment on the girl part... Since you're 14 now, I wouldn't go as far as your neighborhood. But unless your dad is a professional racer, I wouldn't try anything crazy...

If you're asking about Japan, it's 18 to drive... period.

Byeeeeeee..

Well my dad isnt a pro, though he is a very good driver. He used to race go karts till not long ago, and he has been involved with cars all his life.

Even if you're driving with an adult who's trying to teach you? Wink, wink... When I first started out, my dad taught me how to drive a manual transmission. I think this was when I was in junior high school...

The 240SX (S13) here in the states had the LSD offered starting in '91 and the '93 started the Super HICAS aws option. So the best drift cars IMO would be the 91-92 240SX XE's. just my 2 cents.

the KA can hold so much more boost then the SR20, for drifting or track, i'd definetly pick the SR20, but for drag racing, nothin beats a 2.4L Iron Block
