I'm afraid guys... look at this clip!

It's physics-wise which makes me concerned guys... you just cant drive like that if your steering-wheels are back-wheels! Try that with your own cars and you realize what is the bug there...

I doubt they spent much time worrying about the physics of driving in reverse. lol

They did worry about that in Prologue. Turning the wheels in full reverse speed made the car spin easily. I don't know how a kart would react though.

You can not reverse rotate a KT100 engine unless it is built to be reverse rotated. They only run one direction. Just a bug with brilliant driving!

haven't tried it whit my kt100 :P but i heard that if you try to start the engine in reverse you **** up the ignition module

If tyre-model/physics-engine is really up to date to these days, it should make that Kart unstable and spin after first steering moves when accelerating. No need to make 'own' physics to driving backwards.

Have you ever driven a kart? Karts are way, way different than cars. They don't have a suspension, they barely weigh anything, etc. Trust me, this is alright. The only thing that just seems "wrong" is that the karts have a reverse gear in the game.

well i think the question here is, have your ever driven a kart backwards?

i been racing karts for 7 years and even i dont know

the thing is you have a kart. the front of a karts is similar to a car (turn left, right)

but at the back you have a axle, which basicly is only a steel tube with two wheels. that means no diff, and the tires will ALWAYS rotate equally.

a kart is build so that the rear inner tire will lift above the ground so that the kart can go faster trough the corner, and when you try to drive a kart in revers, i can only imagine how that would turn out :P

I laughed pretty hard lol, but in a good way. I think this isnt an example of "bad physics" or a bug I think that the driver is probably pretty good. Im pretty sure the game devs knew how fast the karts went in reverse as well as how they handled. I still wanted to see an actual backflip though haha...

So my question is... is there Tyre-model for every tyre at all, or are all vehicles just bit-blocks which turns same way no matter are you backwards or not.
Do you seriously expect them to model the way cars handle in reverse?

This has nothing to do with physics as such. They should have just adjusted the reverse gear. Big deal.

IMO the question is why is that Kart turning just as same way as driving right-way... that is just totally unreal. Everybody knows driving fast backwards is just impossible. In my eyes it looks that Kart is just 'bit-block' which turns when you turn wheel. No matter what tyres are turning ones, and that's lame and tells quite a lot about tyre-model... or lack of it.

Not unless it is built for reverse rotation. They can be built for reverse rotation when you run dual 100cc engines on lay down enduro karts. The GT5 Version is loosely based off of a 100cc, I'm guessing Parilla based off of the pipe.

And yes, this is Daytona (not me): http://www.youtube.com/user/crashspeed

But he didn't drive the same as going forward, he went off the track loads of times.

Anyways, I am going to wait a day or two then make my own mind up rather than surmise. Saying that everyone who has played it has heaped praise on the physics of the game.

I get what AutoAki is saying - rear wheel steering (as in when your driving in reverse) is inherently less stable than front wheel steering (It IS to do with Physics). The video doesnt show any sharp turns though, so its hard to see if the model doesnt work.

Lawn mowers drive backwards (wheel turn in the back).

So you can´t don´t mean it is impossible! Try and practice it and you will see.

I want caravan races in GT!

It's funny, but it would be a waste of time and energy to criticise this. I wouldn't take this too seriously. Heck, you could have so much fun online with 32 players.

These cars had a Variomatic ... the DAF 44 .... it can go as fast forward as it can in reverse :D lol

Enjoy !

(so nothing wrong with the physics ... great drivin')

Is it bad that I want this in GT? I mean, Test Drive Eve of Destruction was fun...but how about some realism added to it!

(mostly referring to caravan races on dirt tracks and jumping jalopies backwards to end a race.)

(and maybe not in GT, but really just a game that doesnt suck.)

I dont think it is a "bit block" Amar and others have spoke about how good the reverse "J turns" are in the new game.

I'm really hoping that it's only Karts which has such rediculous physics-model. Funny clip at first... but very embarrasing after while.

Hey AutoAki, have a look at this, shows a great reverse J turn at the end as well as some nice sliding around.
