Thanks a lot, I'll put it next to my fan while I play. Also, are you playing on a external monitor or the normal screen, was just wondering if I should get a bigger screen.

Yes, I play on a 17 inch TV. I found that 15 was too small and the screen angle always threw me off. You can still run fast lap times with a small screen, I just felt that I lost a lot of consistency.

I nab my HDMI from the PS3 and run iRacing through my laptop into a TV. Nice and easy to setup really quick along with my wheel/stand. My laptop is a bit more than 500 quid though, I got it originally for 3d modelling/animation stuff (the reason I don't have a desktop at the moment is because of lack of space) so its a decent spec.

iRacing is surprisingly very well optimised both in terms of computer performance but also network performance. As long as you're running it on a decent spec machine, you should be ok. My laptop goes into overdrive trying to run stuff like Mass Effect 3, Arma 2 or whatever on the lowest settings and while obviously iRacing is nowhere near those, I'm impressed how good it looks regardless with a nice frame rate. My internet connection is ok but not brilliant so the almost lag-free races are fantastic.

I personally would, but my mom wants a laptop and in fairness she's going halfs on this.

Not to bothered about triple screen at the moment.

Well if you insist and since your Mom is going splits with you it makes sense to give it a try. Check out This site, it runs a small ActiveX and it will tell you if your computer will cut the mustard. Good luck Matty.

Ok thanks. I sold my wheel and until I get a CSW I have time to kill and plan a new CPU. I know I want to try iracing and I am just trying to get history on where it is and where its going. So what is the deal with this 3.0 business now? Are we talking years away?

ATM we are at 2. something and with each new build they improve the software. Work continues on the software continuously. We have 13 week seasons and new builds are released at that time and like last night a small update was added. They don't tell us how long it will be for a full version to release, at least I don't know.

This is not like Forza or GT5 where you buy a new game every few years. iRacing evolves all the time, perhaps faster at times and slower other times. With out a doubt it is the most realistic racer out there, You do need to contribute a lot of time unless you are one of those Alien types.

There are many new cars coming out and tracks, it is ever evolving. If you want excellent competition in a better and slightly more mature environment then iRacing is for you. Try one of the 3 month deals and if it's for you a $49 black friday sale will get you 50% off regular price.

Main problem with that is that I'd actually have to have bought the laptop first.

Have roughly 500euro to play with and I should be able to get a decent laptop to play it on.

Anyway enough of me in here as I'm pulling the thread off topic :)

Take the link I provided to the shop you are buying from and tell Jim the sales guy you need to try it on a demo model. Don't worry about going off topic, it happens from time to time. :)

15" and 17" I would need a magnifying glass of sorts. When I was younger I had good eyesight but around my early forty's it started to go. Now in my early 50's I need reading glasses and racing presents a great challenge even with triple 55" monitors. As long as I am having fun I will stick to it, man I wish they had this stuff 35 years ago. :)

N00b question :D I have a safety rating of 3.48 as a Rookie, promotion date is on the 28th, I am going to have a D-class license right? And will I have the same SR or it will change ?

Didn't think of that, thanks a lot. First time buying a laptop or computer as last one was inherited.

I live in Tokyo so if you go any bigger than 20 inches on a TV you don't really have room for anything else in your room. If I had a setup with triple 55's I wouldn't have a bed haha.

Does the csw actually have a release date??

Nah not really. Keeps getting pushed back. Last word from Thomas on his blog a couple days ago is pre orders will most likely start mid June when they get the new website up. So maybe July or so before it's released.

Yes long as your SR stays 3.00 or higher you will be promoted to D class. Your SR will drop 1 full point to 2.48 from 3.48 if it remains the same until then. You always drop a full point when you get the next license. You can fast track through the license by doing your 4 races or TT's in that class and getting a 4.00 SR. You don't have to wait for the promotion dates.

Well I decided to take advantage of the $25 for $20 offer and bought myself the Skip Barber, Oulton Park, Brands Hatch, Silverstone, Zandvoort and Suzuka to get the 20% discount for 6 purchases.
I've not yet achieved the SR to race in the Skippys but I straight away started testing the car at Oulton Park and Brands Hatch. Wow, this car is nothing like the SRF. Where the SRF you have to be really careful all of the time, the Skippy you can really play about with on the edge. Got it sideways quite a few times and just caught and rode the slides, great fun. It actually feels like it has more in common with the MX5 as its only really slippery if you try to turn in too much, too fast.

I then took part in a practice on Okayama Full along with 15 other drivers just to compare and practice this week's track. After a couple of laps learning the Full layout I started to feel pretty comfortable straight away. I just started chipping away at my laptimes taking more speed and getting harder on the brakes. I think I got my laptime down from a 1'53 to start with to a 1'48 - around 3 seconds off the ultimate fastest in the session. I'm pretty happy with that after only 9 or so laps - I love this car! I've had a few spins finding the limits but otherwise I've not lost control of this car very much at all (compared to the SRF - which I regularly lost control of even after practicing 50 laps with).

I'll have to return to SRF and MX5 to get my SR up for the weekend. Then I am going to feast on this great machine while its at a track I know well.

Chris, check out the insidesimracing website, I think they reviewed what your looking for a couple of weeks ago.

Now that's funny right there. Home of the "JumboTron" too!

I now have every road course except brands hatch and I got the the riley:D:D ($100 for $75 promo)

Check the stickies in the Skippy forum, there's a nice, concise little tuning guide to make it suit your driving style.

Edit:

with the new promotion, if I put in $25, would I get $30 or would I have to do it separately?

No...you pay $20 and get an extra $5 from this link:

http://members.iracing.com/membersite/member/AddPromotionToCart.do?clct=1&promotion_code=PR20GETS25

Edit2: Oh, you want to add that much more yourself? I guess you can try it and see what it does in the shopping cart. There's no disadvantage to making two transactions out of it if you have to.

Hey guys, I want some recommendations from you, I'm going to promote to D-class, what series/cup do you think I should join? I need to improve my driving, I read that the Skip Barber will help me a lot, what do you guys think?

I'm in my second season now and the skip barber is really good! So much fun and not that difficult once you learn the basics if the car! Really good community too!

Oh my goodness get me out of rookie oval now. Monday's rookie promotions can't come soon enough.

Was leading by 9s at SoBo in the 'Advanced' Legends before being wrecked out of my first win by a lap down car. You can hardly finish a race without being caught up in a couple of incidents out of no fault of your own 👎

I can get on their homepage, but then when you go to try and sign in for the members site it's not loading. Must be running into technical difficulties.

*EDIT*

Back up again.

You can finish races without incidents in Legends, you just have to very very aware of your surroundings, both what is going on ahead and behind. I never had a win in Legends (or any oval series for that matter) but I got out of Legends with an average of less than 2inc per race.

That's an achievment man, less than 2. I'm lucky to get out with 2-4

I found a really awesome setup over on the iRacing 'Rookie Oval' forum by a guy called Rio for South Boston; if you search they're easy enough to find which is good news for people who can't tune (e.g: Me) 👍

EDIT: It's about halfway down this page.

Had a decent Legends race an hour ago actually, nice battle up front with a guy who took the lead off me in the closing laps. Good fun.

hi guys, i got iRacing today and i am looking forward too racing with some of you guys if you like to wish me luck!

Good luck niss! You won't need it though just tons of practice and some common sense! Hopefully see you on track! Add me on iracing Matthew demichele!!

Hello Matthew, thanks but do you have a DFGT? because i can't set the wheel up correctly for this particulair game it seems.
