Tony and Eric have admitted that they know that low speed behavior of the tires is completely messed up. It's actually been a problem for a very long time, back to the days of GP2 and GPL in the mid 90's when I started sim racing.

Where are you getting the idea that I am talking about street cars or street tires? The issues that I'm talking about with slip angle, saving slides, and low speed tire behavior are WELL documented. Just because you don't think there is a problem ErikAndre71 doesn't mean there isn't one. I'm not sure how long you've been around sim racing but these problems have been around for many years.

Read a little history on tire models, specifically the Pacejka model. You'll find that many of the problems we are experiencing in iRacing have been around for many years.

The website, including the forums and race servers have been have a lot of trouble over the past couple days. I think it has to do with the bad winter weather they are getting right now.

I tried to, i need some practise. I need to adsjust my pedals though. T500's pedals are a bit to far away from eachother. and i don't have a real rig so i am not sitting perfectly. So i might stick whit the auto clutch or blip.

They have adjustable pedal faces, right? Moving the brake face right and the gas face left will definitely help. If they aren't secure, that could also make it a bit harder to perfect.

If you can get the pedals set up properly, learning heel-and-toe is definitely worthwhile as it feels very rewarding (IMO). It's also at least a few tenths faster per lap due to not having the time penalty for using aids, as I'm sure you know. 👍

Down again. :/

I like driving on snow. I don't think it's snowed in Tokyo yet, has it?

Nah, not quite yet. It hasn't even been below 0 Celsius yet. I know the north west of the main island already has something like 2 meters of snow or something crazy like that. Tokyo usually only gets 1 or 2 snowfalls a year. And they often turn into slush or ice rather than snow.

Yeah. So, I suppose you won't be the next Colin McRae?

Canada gets a lot of snow.

Works well for this:

Toronto Motorsports Park Advanced Driver Training Winter Program

Yes. I'm still hoping that iRacing puts snow in iRacing's sim. It's very on-topic.

I don't know why are people so anti-clutch, and constantly looking for shortcuts in everything

can't u just drive the car like a man?

I have a new goal in life.

Maybe because very few cars in iracing actually require using the clutch.

This is a start, though.

Of course, it's harder to say Röhrl correctly, than it is to drive his car. (sarcasm, but, the point remains.)

There has been bad weather in the North east. Wouldn't surprise me if they are struggling with the US servers.

They keep saying they're fixing it.. Why not just say the weather is affecting it and go from there?

@0:45 is the tricky spot for me. I've been a left foot braker for the past 10 years because on ovals you don't downshift. I find that the trickiest part is where you shift both feet over one pedal from heel toe, my left leg just kinda freaks out and I pretty much land my left foot on both pedals because I'm so used to having my left foot dedicated to only one pedal at a time. And legend cars don't make it easier  I'll have to take a picture one of these days because they are the craziest pedal configuration ever to be put in a race car

Maybe I'm just a tech geek, but I don't understand the fascination of the clutch pedal. I grew up driving traditional manual transmissions, but I'm over it to be honest. I always found it more of a pointless chore than "fun." If we have newer better technology out there that allows us to go without it, why not embrace it? Especially if it allows you to potentially be faster.

This whole "be a man" thing when it comes to the third pedal is ridiculous. I guess racers from the 50's would say "be a man" about bias ply tires and leather helmets too. How far are we going to take "being a man?"

:( It's still not quite as precise.

Having driven automatics and manuals on tracks, the manuals offer more control. The autos slip and slide, and switch gears when you don't want them to.

Flappy paddles are a bit expensive, and still not quite perfect. The Jetta doesn't shift down when I want it to every time. Problem is, I don't want to rely on the brakes to stop, no matter how much iRacing says "Don't use engine braking." :ouch: :scared: :nervous:

Of course traditional style automatics perform quite poorly on the track, but I'm referring to brand new technologies we are finding in cars like the Nissan GTR, Porsche 911 (PDK), and other modern paddle-shift transmissions. They are more precise than a traditional manual ever could be. It's easy to see that they are faster, pretty much every test out there shows that dual-clutch (and single clutch F1 style) transmissions turn faster lap times than their manual counterparts.

Manual transmissions exist because when they designed them ~100 years ago, it was the best they could do with the technology they had. Dual-clutch paddle shift transmissions are the evolution of the traditional manual and will replace it completely soon enough.

I guess the hard-headed "purists" will still have old used cars to drive with manual transmissions though. :)

It's something that more or less falls under "historical tradition" and not to mention that I don't think you'll be finding a dual clutch paddle shifter in a Kia Sephia any time soon... (Price)

The standard shifter will always be around, just not as common.

I'll take a H gear box over paddle shifting any day, I don't care if it makes me a second faster (unless I'm doing a real race for money, or in a car playing iracing that has that setup).

standard shifting is fun and more involved and like the other member said "you have more control" even more so in bad weather.

aside from being stuck in traffic, standard shifting makes the ride more fun even if you are just cruising.

Only twin-clutch works. I'd have a twin-clutch Evo X, quite happily, if I had $60,000 to spend.

But, since I don't, I'm lucky to have a car at all, and happily enjoy knowing how to drive both manual and automatic, I'm fine without.

Besides, single-clutch paddles are horrendous.

Anyways, a comparison between all transmission types:

hahaha I was also thinking about Top Gear when I wrote that.

JC almost put a Aston Martin into the bay because of the paddle shift

You're going to have to show me that. Anyways, have we beat the iRacing transmission squabble to death, or do we want to bring this up in a relevant thread?
