I can say similar things about legends as was mentioned about the SRF, a lot of it is no matter the quality of the hardware, it will never simulate 100% of the senses correctly as actually doing it. I've flight trained in a Redbird FMX full motion simulator but you can never replicate the feelings you get in a power on stall in a sim, or even just landings, they help but there's no replacement for actually going up in the air or to the track.

(Only problem is that I've got an NA MX5, and it only manages to go for 5 or 6 minutes flat out before it starts overheating...but that's another story.) ;)

Phillip Island would be way faster than the Mosport DDT track I was on. :grumpy: I ran out of room too soon, but it was, at least, easier to stay on the track.

But, as for your MX-5, are you serious? 5 or 6 minutes? I was out for like 20 minutes in my Impreza, and the motor didn't heat up at all... The tires gave up after like 15, so I was losing grip really quickly, but the motor stayed cool... The brakes and tires were the only things to heat up. :sly:

Also a road car have a brake balance of 70/30 and normally a pretty big amount of "toe in" on the rear tires and this create a lot of balance to the car when braking. Maybe we can call it under steer even, but in the end that feels more stable than anything closer to 50/50 brake balance.

So I don't really feel like the physics are overdone in iRacing, but I would never in my right mind call it similar to real life. But I wouldn't really compare it to real life if my only experience on the track was my private road car ;)

But I like the questions you ask here.

I can confirm that 3 screens helps a lot when it comes to turn in points, and even more on turn out points because you have a more natural view. But distance to the monitor/TV is just as important. If you feel like driving from the back seat you will struggle hitting your turn in points with 1 screen or 5.

Oh and yes I have track experience both in road cars and track cars (you can rent a BMW 3 series on one of the race track in Norway, witch is purpose build for track driving/racing)

(renting that car for a day was super expensive (equal to 5,5 year of iRacing full price), but it included a class to learn about safety and race craft, track walk and a instructor telling you how you should select your driving line etc. Then practice, qualify and a "pretended" race with the other ones. They didn't really allow us to race close.

I sit like 10 feet away from my computer screen when I'm playing iRacing. There's no room in my basement for me to sit closer. :(

As for the BMW 3 series thing, I got passed by quite a large number of 3s yesterday. Your car would've been way faster, but I got on track for about $160, which I'm extremely proud of. 💡 Maybe racing isn't such an expensive thing, after all. :)

Also, I tend to race the KIA on iRacing now, and I raced the Jetta. Both of those cars lean towards excessive understeer, and I wouldn't have it any other way. But, when the KIA and the Jetta step out, it's very sudden and very unpredictable, even though the KIA's brake bias is set to 70/30, and I don't even know the brake bias on the Jetta (it was worse...) and the Impreza's brake bias is stock. Again, unless the Impreza's brake bias was something like 90/10 (which I obviously doubt) something isn't quite right with the brakes on iRacing.

Oh and Go Karts of course.

The most awesome things in the world. Why don't you post more on the karting thread?

Yup.

Most of what I have to say on this topic has pretty much already been mentioned though. 👍

^ Says the (almost?) professional racing driver himself. Good stuff!

I feel like I'm one of the few that has never had any real world racing experience. I never did karting (not even at an amusement park) and no track day experience since I can't legally drive a car yet.

I haven't had much outside few random kids karting places and one at local indoor place.

I done some karting at a 4 storey track. Great fun. Fingers crossed I'll be doing the NASCAR experience at Charlotte next year.

Hey guys, does anyone else have on-track experience?

I just had a very awesome track day experience at my local track (Mosport) and it was awesome, but I'm curious if anyone else thinks that the iRacing physics are a bit "overdone." Does anyone else find it more difficult to drive cars in iRacing, than it is to drive the cars in real life? Does anyone else find that iRacing makes cars much twitchier under braking?

Granted, that should give you some idea about how my Subaru was handling; my word, it was beautiful.

Anyways, let the real life vs. iRacing physics talk commence please. :) I really want to hear if anyone else has any similar thoughts.

I have some, I've karted a few times, and I went to Skip Barber at Limerock. I'm going back next week for the 3 day MX-5 school at Limerock in hopes to apply for my SCCA regional license. I try not to cross reference my "real" and iRacing driving to much, to be honest iRacing isn't to much like the real thing, but that's not really a bad thing, the technology can only go so far, and as I'm sure a few others will agree with, real life is way more addictive and much more rewarding. Andrew, were you on the full Mosport course or the "driver development" course?

I finally raced today after a 3 week break from racing. I raced the Trucks Fixed at Dover and after 5 laps I figured how to drive the track. It helps since i have a low iRating and some guys do not know the proper line.

First race was terrible. I wrecked on lap 5. A guy spun entering Turn 3 after hitting the wall in turn 2. I was 3-wide in the middle and I got hooked by the guy on the bottom who was trying to avoid the wreck.

Second race was much better. I was one of the fastest guys but I started in 17th and had to work me way up. I was slowly picking my way through traffic. By the time the first caution came out I was in 8th. I kept moving but I was taking my time and I was in 5th when the second caution came out. On the restart, exiting turn 2, a guy got loose and smacked the inside wall. I was two-wide with another driver, and was forced to go low. He became a moving chicane as I had to go around quickly before I got ran over. I slid back to 10th and worked my way up again.

I caught to a group that was all over the place racing. They were racing aggressively but clean, that was until I came. Trying to pass a guy I was low coming out of Turn 4. The guy in front of us slowed forcing the guy next to me to slow down and get loose. He hit me and I went spinning to the wall but this time I somehow saved it. I was swerving for a little bit, but i got it under control. and went back to race them again. I caught them the next lap and was waiting to pass. Opportunities came twice and I finished 7th.

Ah I see. I only started looking yesterday after running it in a TT. Glad it has plenty going on then. I reckon brands hatch would be a blast in it.

It definitely is a great car track combo; got to be full course though. Mind you, I had fun taking the street stock around Brands...

Saw highlights of DTM @ brands hatch Indy from a couple of weeks ago. Worth a search on YouTube, or itv4 I think.

Went to it in 2011 :p Superb spectacle.

Funnily enough speaking of Stocks going round it, the NASCAR EuroRacecar series supported it when I went, immense beasts.

Maybe im late to the party, but how does this new trading paint work? Do i just leave the program running while i play iracing and it automatically updates the cars on the track? Before we downloaded a list, now im not sure what to do.

On initial opening it gives you a check box and once you click apply/ok it is working in the background. So when you join a session, you wait a min or two, sometimes less than that and the custom paints should just pop up, whether it's live or in replay and at the end of the session it deletes those files if you have it checked in the initial dialog box.

Anyone fancy trying to get a gtp field tonight in the spec ford? Racing Okayama this week so everyone has the combo. Thinking evening time uk time. Between 7 and 9 perhaps?

Lol. Decided to be a bit of Raikkonen and just leave the topic at that because everyone else pretty much covered it for me lol.

My hero mentioned by my other hero... :scared: :dopey:

Really? And, if I may ask, you're how old? For some reason, I always envisioned you nearer to my age.

...real life is way more addictive and much more rewarding...

Real life is way more addictive indeed.

And, yes, Driver Development Track (DDT) is much safer for my first track day. Video to come, once I figure out how to do this thing called YouTube uploads... (processing failed on all three video upload attempts, I'm officially switching file type)

Oh, Mackenzie, check out Matt's link to a photo of me in my Subie on Mosport: http://www.hotshoephotos.com/HotshoeMain/BMW-Club-Autoslalom-May-2013/29639680_tQX92N#!i=2536507264&k=3GbDbvB&lb=1&s=A

I'd love to, but I'll be at work. Damn time zone differences.

I've never really thought of labeling my buttons but, I guess that would be pretty cool. My only problem is, I use different button layouts depending on the car and style of race.

Yup, for real or so I hope anyways.. I'm 18. Cool photo! The DDT track is still pretty cool.

DDT track is almost as much fun. I can't imagine how bored I'd be sitting on the throttle from T5 all the way 'til T9. :sly: And, you're only 18? A year younger than me, but you've already done Skip Barber stuff? Did you pay for it yourself, or was it, you know, a gift or something? We should PM...

Come to think of it, I should be doing that. As well as my toolbox, but that's a different story for the Karting Thread. :D
