lol funny how you all are talking about if the FPS drop below 80 the probs start... in RACES i usually have 45-60FPS and when im alone it doesnt get higher then 85FPS yet im only 1 second off world record time  think its about time to get rid of my 4year old laptop :(

btw, which FOV test u guys are talking about?

I use 55, because i like to see the front wheels from the Skippy.

i know about the FOV, i usually run 85-100 since i only have a single 24" screen.

But what about the FOV test which has been mentioned above?

Managed a pretty bonkers lap in the Vette at Road America a few minutes ago :)

0.005 and i would have been in the Top10 World Records ;)

You should hear it in game with Fmod enabled :) My god, probably the best sounding car in the game.
And that comes from a guy who usually hate American V8´s :)

When you let of the gas it crackles nicely from the exhaust and it sounds like gunfire when you shift ;)

Well, to being more precise, problems start if you usually have like +120 fps when practising in server with few people and after that you go to race with 25 others and your fps drops down to, lets say 60-80fps. What faster car in question, that more it changes braking-points and all other factors.

With some lower speed cars I dont think fps difference matters much if any, but when you are coming to braking-point with speed like 250km/h, we are talking about many meters difference what you see, compared to what you are used to see in practice-sessions. I have many times saw posts about how people feel that track-conditions are changing between Practise-session and Race-session. I have theory that it's only fps dropping with those people, and when they miss their braking-points they feel that track is somehow slippier. I did feel same before upgrading my cpu sometime ago. I did not gain my PB's much after that, but definitely got more precision and consistency to race-sessions with faster cars like Radical, Vette, and such...

In a nutshell, most important imo is that what fps you are used to, you should try to get it stable in every circumstance. Some people has better skills to adapt than others too, so this issue is bigger for one than the other. What better 'inner prediction-code' you have, that less you suffer about jumping fps's.

I also have some thoughts/theories about different kind of ways to drive simulators. Some older guy with huge career and lots of talent in motorsport, can easily be slower than fifteen-year old kid who haven't ever driven real car. I would say that older guy is driving with his eyes and insticts, and young boy is driving with limits of games physics. Between these examples is whole variety of combination of both types... but that's just my personal thoughts. I have been few times wondering how some young-guns can be so phenomenal without any real-life experience.

Do you have a link for the Fmod that you are talking about?

Here's my setup (Its a bad picture but I didn't have a nice camera laying around at the moment):

I think alot has to do with butt feel aswell. Many older racers who race in the real world are missing that part in a game and has to really strengthen the senses from eyes and hands because the wheel is the only thing telling you what is going on.

Some adapt to it and some can´t adapt to it. And some younger guys know the principles of going fast and would probably be fast no matter what you give them.

Uh... the wheel tells you little to nothing in real life. All through the pedals my friend.

Wow, I've been running at 30-35 FPS and thought it was fairly decent.

I think I need to make an upgrade.

How much the wheel tells you in real life depends on the car, you drive a go-kart and you can feel everything through the wheel, not and it's not always enjoyable. Always get sore arms after karting.

Some cars will give you a lot of feel (though different to FFB) where as others give you absolutely nothing, soft and smooth and light as a feather. I took a long time (and still am adapting) to be able to adapt to sim racing. I was a natural at Go-Karting when I was a youngun, it was as natural as anything i could imagine, didnt need to train or practice or fanny around crashing into walls, i could just do it. But sim racing was hard for me (i only got a wheel last august played all previous games with a gamepad), it's the same as driving a real car while being absolutely alien at the same time.

Sim racing wasnt natural to me and i had to learn the hard way, but real racing (atleast in a kart) was very natural.

Three Street Stock races and I've been the only Rookie in all of them.

Odd....It'd be nice to go against drivers in a similar class.

that´s not what i´m saying. I´m saying the wheel in the game is everything you have to go on except the eyes.

Ohhhhh haha. Yeah i guess it is. I still use the throttle to control the angle of the slip angle though. not much steering input for me ;)

I bet it doesn't have a very good turn in for entry that Corvette. So front heavy...

Depends on setup actually. With a stiff rear ARB you can take Blanchimont at full throttle.
It gets more oversteery then but for me it makes the car slightly more nervous everywhere. I like a neutral setup where i decide if it should understeer or oversteer.
You can also play around with diff settings to get the balance right for you.
Many think that because it´s a vette it should be front heavy but it´s a GT1 car that dominated the class and it has enormous amounts of mechanical grip this car.

Just get the setup right and it will do anything you ask it to.
And the engine is just incredible. You really have to re-learn the brain not to downshift that extra gear but instead just leave it in third for example.
The insane amounts of torque just launches the car out of turns :)

EDIT: Technically it´s a mid-engined car like the BMW M3 GT2 even though they are on paper front engined cars.

Any good setups you care to share?

You mean a mid-ship car, where the engine and drivetrain sits between the axles but still in front of the driver.

Do you get many official races in the Corvette Hampus? I used to drive it at the end of last year but even back then it wasn't overly popular. I really enjoy driving it though, very tough car to drive but I enjoyed the challenge.

Looking at going for a Pro License next season.... Not sure. Really enjoying the FW31 at Barber plus done a time that would've qualified me for the DWC there.... Had quite a few Australians suggesting I go for DWC. We'll see what happens, it won't be easy that's for sure.

I don´t know :) i haven´t driven a single race in it yet :)
I just entered a Danish practice server and i´m about to join a race any minute now.
It´s in hosted and Q starts in 50min.

Yea do it! You are a very quick driver my friend ;)

JAV, Yea it´s mid-engined car. Just that the engine is infront of the driver.
But on paper you say front engined car.

Setups, you can find in the Vette thread. I made a post there about wanting some setups and Dennis Grebe provided me with a link. Just click on that and then download the Road America setups.

If you want you can join the race aswell but be sure to be in before whatever full hour that comes next at your place.
As i´m writing this it´s 49min left before Qualifying so you have time to get comfortable.

He has a race setup aswell and the race is 90min.

Ohh man!! I'd love to join you, I'm in love with the Vette!! But I'm getting ready to head out to class now, so that's impossible for me.
I'll look your thread up! Thank's for sharing Hampus!

ummm, what about loss of grip for one? Me thinks you need a new wheel 👍

respectfully speaking tho I should add. I am just a lowly Class D

Hey guys now that im Class D i see I get penalized when I do a time trial and do it lazily. even tho my SR still improves my ttRating is getting decremented. Why??? I guess they want to fly around these tracks at lightning speed

Led from start to finish :) was a very tough race mentally because the mind can wonder sometimes when someone isn´t close to you.

Loved the start i did :) Got pole so i was unsure about the rolling start.
I asked a friend on what to do. He said, wait for green.

So when the pace car went in, i waited and waited, no green.
I got bored so just floored it, catching everyone of guard and got a 1.5 second lead before T1 :)

The power is just insane in second gear. If you just let everyone think you will take it easy, just floor it and they will have no time to react because it just takes of like a got damn rocket! :D

I'm talking from real life racing. I have a brand new steering wheel from Fanatec so that's definitely not the problem. You'll hear the slide much before you'll actually feel it through the steering. Race cars now days are so electronic, that's why the steering tells you little to nothing.

I got some new spy shots of my new DP paint job. :D I think someone at the MtBeR4LiFe889 Paint Noob Shop screwed my car up! Photo 1 Photo 2

EDIT: I don't want to see what they do to my baby vette D:

Hey guys, thought I'd chime in and show off my new eyefinity setup :D

Before I got my monitor mounts

With my monitor mounts!

Although it doesn't look like it, everything lines up great in-game (the camera height makes it look messed up!)

And to anyone out there who hasn't yet played around with your FOV settings - I highly recommend using the iRacing FOV calculator (even if you have only 1 screen). Sure, it might take away most of your peripheral vision but you will probably find you can more accurately judge speed, distance and braking points, as well as have a better feel for the car underneath you.
