the car's really easy to drive. It sort of reminds me of the 09 jetta I drive, except faster in every way. :p

here's a vid of me attacking road atlanta short config. I am down to high 1'07's now, but in this vid i did a 1'08.6, i think.

There's no races with the car untill friday, i think. And the series doesnt start until the 17th, iirc.

I used fraps and then virtuadub to change to a smaller codec.

as far as i know, you can only race from incar, but the game has triple monitor support and adjustable FOV. You can create custom camera angles
for replays, but I don't know if you can actually race with them like in Live For Speed. Cockpit view is best anyways.

the TDi cup car is racing @ Road America right now for the 24 hours du Fun. :)

Just downloaded the Radical 1 month trial, so much fun thrashing around silverstone! I think the demo has some other stuff in it too, there seems to be four or five playable circuits, rather than just Silverstone.

After playing a game as realistic as this, it makes me think that a good next step for gaming wheels would be to have feedback in the pedals (especially the brake.) It would be great to feel when the wheels are locking through the pedal, rather than just the wheel.

The new, expensive, Fanatec Porsche wheels have that feature.
Dont know the exact name of them...

Woot, I finally have a computer that can play this game well.

Now, the penalties. I'm already annoyed by the off-track penalties, even in practice! GTP's OLR rules of two wheels on track at all times are perfectly reasonable and realistic. Scratching a lap because you cut a corner a foot too tight or came out a bit wide on the rumble strip is unreasonable in my opinion. Not even real race driver are that perfectly consistent, especially in a video game.

So how do you deal with that? Go slow all the time? Does it do that during races? How the heck am I supposed to know how quick I'm going when more than half my laps don't count for anything?

during practice it will show you the penalties, but won't count them against you, I've gotten used to racing in traffic around the outside of the course, you just kind of have to roll with the punches so to speak.

Its not a demo, its a fully functioning game, you just get one month for free. I'm still in my free month and will be renewing.

You can use rumble-parts of track without having 'off-track x1', but if you get them, you have been way over rumbles... there is some sort of way to count are you out or in track... I think it was 50% of your car out, and you collect x1. Safety-Rating is soooo great way to put guys to use their brains when driving. I love it, and truly hope PD will create something similar!

It only counts SR in Qualify's, Time-Trials and Races. They show all the time just that you can learn to drive by right way.

Be sure you 'uncheck' your subscription from account-page, if youre just going to drive that one month... it's automatic re-new if you havent done that yet.

...and yes, it's not 'demo'. It's only 'free-month', and then you must pay if you continue.

ps. Sorry double-posting. I forgot GTP's tight line in that. Could some Admin put these together please...

Ah thanks for that, I'm only intending on using the one month for now. I realize its not a demo, that was more of a slip of the tongue (well, keyboard) on my part, as I am kinda treating it as one for now, I dont really have the spare cash to fully subscribe at the moment!

Be careful that you dont drive iRacing 'too much'... there is no way coming back, if you get touch into it. ;)

I have tried GT5P few times after I jumped into iRacing with same offer than you. PD really need to improve in many sectors with GT5, that I would cancel my subscription... specially with Licence-structure, Force Feedback, and Online.

That somehow makes me worried/sad, cause I've been inlove to GT's since part 1, and I dont believe they will do those improves good enough.

Remember to calibrate your equipments (graphic-card, Logitech-drivers, wheel and pedals) with care, so that you can have 'full experiement' about very great sim-physics. Find FAQ-section from menu page... upright. There is everything you'll need.

Just thought I'd try and record something from iRacing. From practice with Keef on the weekend.

How have the TDi cup races been at Road Atlanta? My cpu fan for my gaming pc broke, so i won't be able to race until my new heatsink/fan gets here.

Also, Blake, have you noticed better gameplay/ping since they put up the Aussie servers? do you run into many japanese racers?

TDi only races on Wed Fri Sun and Mon. 👎

Timetrial and practice servers are up now though. Close "racing" on the practice servers too bad I'm still over two seconds off pace, I'd be happy to pull a 1:08.xxx though.

the best advice i can give you for pulling off consistent low 1:08's would be extremely smooth. never turn the wheel to much which is something i noticed alot of people do in the TDi. especially in the last set of turns before the start finish line after you make the right after the downhill with the immediate left besmooth and dont turn the wheel that much for the left. the car will understeer alot and you will want to turn in more to correct this but all your going to end up doing is slowing the car down.

im still trying to figure out how to run consistent high 1:07's cant even imagine how there pulling low 1:07's. my best so far is a 1:07.797

Well they seem to put us on whatever server gives the majority of racers the lowest ping, so not much has changed. During certain times of the day when there are a bunch of Aussies it is awesome though, very low ping. I don't find many problems racing against people with ping above 300ms though, iRacing seems to handle it very well.

I don't think I've run into any Japanese racers actually. Most of them seem to be North American and Australian.

I may be missing something, but why is there only 18 cars for a game which costs £100 a year?

Sureboss, it’s the best physics, tracks and service ever available to the public. It’s costly compared to other options but well worth it if simracing is your favorite hobby.

The competition at the higher license classes exceeds any racing you’ll find on GT5P. It really is a product designed for those who derive their fun from taking the racing seriously.

If you’re the type that doesn’t enjoy practicing to improve, then you’ll get frustrated when you can’t keep up on the track.

Also, the subscription cost only covers the 3 rookie cars and a few tracks. Each additional car will cost $15.

It's closest to real life racing-simulator nowatime, and their only goal is to change sim-racing to be serious online-sport, and same time training tool for real-life racers, who have no chance to fly all over U.S to go test the tracks and setups.

In these days it's very clear, that every racing-team wants to save money, and this Sim gives first time that opportunity. Many real-racers have said that it really gave them chance to be fast since first laps, when they actually were in that track, what they did train in iRacing.

It's like, you can buy some nice flying-simulator, and fly with many planes all around the world with joystick, something like 39.90€... or you can buy best flying-sim what there is available, maybe same what flying-companies use for training, and maybe you really could fly in-real if you ever get that chance.

It's so deep and very very racing-oriented experiement, and hard to describe without writing book. Go to check iRacing's YouTube-channel, and their marketing video, where guy talks about what iRacing wanted to be.

If you like more Sims like Gran Turismo, where you can chill out, and cruise all around tracks with hundreds of different cars, without stress... iRacing aint for you.

Almost everyone in iRacing is very serious in that, so it's racing-etiquette, knowledge, and manners are very impressing... and how good can humans be in sim-racing! I was shocked when I realized how fast those Aliens can drive those cars, and not just one lucky laps, but they can repeat it 50 times in a row!

It's all about racing, hours and hours practising, hours and hours doing setups.... and again racing. Rookie-races are almost half hour long, and those are called 'sprint-races'

The only gripe I have about iRacing is the fact that once your license is terminated, you can't - play - this sim anymore.

You should be able to practice offline if you don't have the cash to renew your license immediately.

That is true, and I agree with it.

In these hard times, iRacing should understand and emphatize people who are tight... they anyway would be back whenever they again have that option.

No-one who loves racing, wouldn't sub again when that opportunity comes available, and it would be great that you could have done your 'homeworks' while waiting that moment!

Same issue goes to iRacing's Forums... everyone who have account, should have possibility to follow 'general discussions' atleast, and take a part into it.

Your opinions have been debated there many times, and most of guys are in these same lines too.

ps. Dont tell anyone, but once I saw thread there, that someone was found 'cracked iRacing' from some Torrent. You could not take a part to online, but you could practice.

iRacing-staff didn't take any seemly negative side about it, and many were finally thinking that it's because it actually aint eating their business, but maybe feeding it. 💡

Cracked software is illegal but if the iRacing staff doesn't care that much about it and they see it as a kind off - advertisement -, then I guess it's alright and "kind off" legal. :D

If they don't like it, they should make the sim available, offline, all the time once you bought a lisence.

iRacing just announced that they will be including indy car and the indy lights. was only a matter of time and im surprised it took them this long to get it.

yeah it was all but announced up untill this pt, so it's not really much of an announcement.

I had the opportunity to try out iRacing, yesterday.

I'm impressed, to say the least. The graphics of the cars are much better than I thought. But the graphics of the environment/tracks aren't that good.

The only thing I need to do is to become a member! :D

MHO is that netKarPro is as good as iRacing, physics/graphics wise. I don't know about the tracks though. I downloaded netKarPro v1.1 demo and tried it with a Logitech attack3 joystick (:D). It's hard to control an F1600 with a joystick.

Playing these 2 sims, you can actually feel the difference between these two hardcore sims and a game - sim. The only sim that comes close is, in my opinion; rFactor mod Historic GT & touring cars.

Only if there was a sim with the physics of iRacing/netKarPro v1.1 beta with laser scaned tracks, the graphics of GT5 and the damage model of, mmm, lets say, DIRT2/Shift.

This sim in combination with betainnovation hardware (not possible anymore because the site of betainnovation has been taken down) and a 6 DOF affordable motion platform/seat with a fully closed cockpit were the windows are the screens is my ultimate dream.

1/4 of the way into the Star Mazda season and I'm 37th overall and 1st in my division. In the time trial standings I'm 12th overall and 1st in my division.

Quite happy so far. Hopefully I can sneak up the overall standings a bit as the season wears on.
