please help a noob to this game out......... what is this "tire upgrade" people are talking about and can you tune your car (suspension, etc) and where is it?

its only for the new nationwide car at the moment. the other cars will get the new tire model august. there's plenty of articles and videos on iracing features.

I thought the old tyre model in iRacing was pretty good, but this new tyre model feels way better. Can't wait to try it out on the road cars.

Seems really strange to me, they bring out thew new tyre model on a stock car racing on a road circuit. My first impression was "whoa understeer", it definitely does have a more real and solid feel to it, but the Nationwide car is terrible on road circuits, braking distances are absolutely massive.

It does feel good however, I'm definitely looking forward to seeing it applied to the other cars.

The braking distances really aren't that bad considering the weight of the car. Trail braking helps with rotating the car for turn-in on most corners... you may be able to take corner entries faster than you think!

I love the NTM. It feels like a much more delicate balance than before, albeit much more controllable because it feels so much more natural now. I drove the car at Road Atlanta with the Road America basic setup just to get a feel for it since I know Road Atlanta pretty well. A good warm-up lap is MUCH more important now. This is going to make the races very interesting.

It´s acutally less nervous then the previous car.

Low speed grip feels ten fold. Acceleration feels way more planted.
Not that nervous feeling that you don´t really know if the rear will stick out once you shift to third etc.

NO MORE DRIFTO COMPETITION SUCKERS :)

that was for all the alien drifters lol.

smoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooth is the key to speed here.

I´ve only driven it at a road course (Infineon Raceway) and it felt astonishing. Have to get some new settings for the wheel though.

Sounds good can't wait for it to hit the RR cars! What's the release date for the Ford and ARX?

Well, I finally pulled the trigger on this. I've just done 27 laps of open practice at Okayama and man am I slow! I was one of the slowest guys there, and I can't figure out how to drop more time. This is sooo much more realistic than any other sim I've played, it's like starting over

If anyone wants to add me, my name is Alexander Higgins.

Having a ton of fun so far!

Those will likely come in August when iRacing 2.0 comes out.

Yea it´s really key to be smooth now. Overdriving won´t work anymore :P

Hey hampus, do you where i was supposed to grab the FFB settings from iRacing site? I responded to your query in other thread but u could just post here instead 👍

Too bad us rookies cant demo the new tire model?? :banghead:

I guess they want me to keep focus on mastering this Mazda MX-5

For anyone who hasn't tried the new tyre model here is a quick video from Road America using the advanced setup:

My first impression is that the tyres are great when you ask them to either accelerate, turn, or brake. But as soon as you ask them to do 2 of those things at once they start to struggle.

It feels like it's much faster to drive the car straight, at least compared to the V8 where the tyres seemed to work with a relatively large slip angle (the V8 is the only closed top I've really used on road courses before).

I'd say they're an improvement over the old tyre model. Requires a little getting used to though.

I more and more regret I bought a PS3 instead of a decent PC and an iRacing subscribtion. :indiff:

This sim looks so awesome, and it obviously just keeps getting better.

I'm on my MacBook Pro and it works astonishingly well

iRacing will run on anything, it won't look as good as it will on a top pc, but you can tone down a lot of things in the settings to gain decent FPS on an old computer.

In the short time I spent on it.,worked just fine on my old laptop and that thing was as slow as a Mercedes Patent Wagon.

The graphics are fine on low, I experimented with it for a while the other day.

I run an older pc, maybe 3 or 4 years old with parts that might have been 1 or 2 years old by then so I can't run everything on high effectively. I can run it on highest but the fps drops to 50 with 1/2 second lockups just randomly and that's not what you want in a full pack. It will fluxuate, getting 60 or 70 fps with less cars.

While that sounds like a smooth number, the higher settings make the loading times 3-4 mins instead of 1-2, so I run mostly minimal graphics to get 120 fps with less lockups, less screen tear etc. It think the game runs 720p resolution instead of the monitors and computers natural resolution of 1080p.

Kind of a random post but I'm just saying the game runs well on an older pc with the right settings. I can post specs later if you want.

Moron watch at Okayama!
Lee Suk Man, ths clown took me out twice tonight! Both times I was leading the race!
On the 1AM EST race he took me out with a stupid dive bomb attempt on turn 2. On the 2AM EST race He was 3 laps down with me leading by 15 seconds and thi moron comes out of the pits 4 laps down, takes a lapped car(who is still 3 laps in front of him) out with the same dumb move and the next lap plainly drives me off the road!
Remember the name Lee Suk Man, drives a pink MX5.

Stupid question, but how do you save or view replays?
I'm having a blast, but I wanna study my lines once I'm calm enough to really analyse them after a run  I get so concentrated driving, I can't go back into observer mode right away!

You click the button circled black and then the orange one.

EDIT: Just saw you said view as well. On the main iRacing site you click Replays under the menu Events which is beside series.

Lovin' the new tyre model. Taken some getting used to but finally nailed a good lap and in qualy too! Did a 2:10.036. Absolutely over the moon, good to know I have pace on the NTM. Now I just need to figure out how to race on it....

Anyone else notice that the tyres seem to drop off really fast? I was reading someone's post saying that after about 2-3 dud laps early on in a run, the tyres come back at Road America and lap consistently after that.

Try running at 20 FPS with minimal graphics. It isn't very fun. :P

i think in the hardware section.

search for wheel settings there and it should pop up.

I was having major trouble driving the new car, it seems like you do a beast of an outlap while the tyres are new, I followed that with my best being a 2:13 flat, and then the next lap the tyres are shagged and lose all their bite. Was driving with the iRacings road america advanced setup.

I seem to have an issue slowing the car down, i either lock the brakes up or i'm braking from about 10 miles away, though the 2:13 was a fairly clean lap, didn't expect to see 2:10's cropping out this early, people making me look **** as usual ^^.

Only running test sessions with the car at the moment as I only have a C licence.
