Yeah I'm not sure what I'm going to do. All you guys would no doubt blow my doors off. Guess I need to just floor this HPD through the corners and see what happens :scared:

At Suzuka I think my best was a 1.50s in the fixed set but these other guys can put down high 1.47s. Luckily the average dude out there seems to only drop 1.49s which allowed me to hit top 5....

----

Btw I just loaded into Brands Hatch for the 1st time and cruised around it in the Skippy. What a beautiful track! I'd like to try to get in a race on this one too.

me too. but my problem is global. no matter the car im always off pace. I stuck to riley DP all season and was slower than most. But i work hard anyway!

I know some good guys that always rotate cars and still kill it. I just need more talent lol

I want to do a lil' Skippy along side HPD

-----

Hey guys -- Stop'n'Go penalty. I got one at a skippy race for early start. Do i just drive through the pits or do i have to stop at the mechanic? I think in real life u just drive through the pits u dont have to stop

I don't think there's drive trough penalties on iRacing, you need to stop at your pit box and serve the indicated time.

No actual drive throughs, just Stop & Go I think. Got one yesterday in a Mustang race; just make sure you don't have fuel or tyres checked, drive up to your mechanic and well, stop and er, go! :)

Be careful in case its actually a stop and hold penalty. Watch for a penalty timer to come up.

oh my-- Skip was so terrible in the low splits. Twice I was in the Top 5 and got smashed by a dude that decided to spin out of control. Sure I can repair but no way to get back my position... Such a fun car but not sure if I can recommend this series if you have a low iRating. Maybe it'll get better later in the season once these newly elevated rookies mature and learn how to control the car. I thought I was bad-- but I always take extra care to maintain control when around other cars

Ok back to the HPD. Time to go fix my SR and iR

Disagree. I am in a low split and only 2 accidents out of like 12 races? You cant have one race and say that...

Ok, firstly, this is not meant to play down the pros out there who race HPD or anything like that, I am sure the pro HPD drivers are top top drivers but just wanted to say after buying the HPD given the current sale...
...
..
are you JOKING? This car is like so easy to drive (remember, I don;t mean getting WR times, just in terms of drivability). I mean compared to the skip, oh my god....I mean put a newbie in a skip and I assure you they will spin out more than once on a track, probably like 5 - 6 times ain't even exaggerating it but this HPD, I give it just a few laps without understanding the car, I know my lap times weren't alien but I was literally trying to spin the car out and its like glued to the track. I was hitting my face against the wall when I was doing some laps at Brand Hatch in the Skip, gave up, had about 10 mins before I couldn't play and tried the HPD, no spin outs, and as Clarkson would say "SPEEED." Man its easy, should be a C class car, you wouldn't want it D class because some newbies might go nuts with that speed but yea...this has to be the easiest car in the game, perhaps not to get WR, but easiest car to drive by far. Even the MX5 is more difficult.

HOWEVER, in saying that, its pretty dam fun. I want a good 1 year with the Skip or even 2 years, but HPD will be next on my list. Only reason I like it because SPEEED.

Tried some others, Riley, meh its ok if you like that sort of thing. Quite a heavy car, really need to brake early. Star Mazda is ok but I personally wouldn't race it, I just feel the Star Mazda is in the middle - its not as difficult, fun or as good of a series compared to Skip and its not as difficult, series not as pro or as fun as the F1, its just stuck in the middle.

Going to post some reviews in the car thread.

Did you run with other people? Or by yourself. A lot of times people think they are going fast in the car but, then they learn that most other people who drive the car regularly are a good second or so faster.

If you know anything about karting. It's like a class called TaG. Anybody can be fast in it. But to be within that top 5 tenths, you have to be REALLY good.

Like I said in my post and I will repeat it. I never said getting good lap times or getting alien lap times aid I am sure top HPD drivers are very very good, but just in terms of the car itself, it is very very easy, I even think its the easiest car to drive compared to any other car in iracing.

Please read more carefully - I even made a big emphasis in the very first few sentances of my post. My sentiments have been backed up by other anyway, it is simply a very easy car to drive - easy drive doesn't mean easy lap times or winning races. They are two different things.

I did 4 races this weekend at Watkins Glen. It was pretty bad these last 2 races. The last one though I was sitting at 4th place and both 3rd & 2nd were fighting going into the chicane at Watkins Glen-Cup. I was right there behind them but trying to keep a little bit of distance behind them (cause by that point I learned not to trust anyone). And sure enough one of them spins right in front of me. Like Dan Wheldon I had nowhere to go and one of us caught some air time.

Thats purely bad luck and nothing to do with the Skip series sandbox. It happens any any series. Happened to be at Mid Ohio first 2 races both at turn 1 and I was about to give up (see few pages back(, about 10 races later I am loving the Skip series.

What I have learned about situation like yours, its not enough to simply distance yourself away, I actually change my driving line slightly. I know this isn't ideal or very real life, but if your driving in low splits, driving against unfamiliar drivers, driving in a sim, you need to give more than just distance, I normally move my car half a car's width or a full car's width to either side of the car in front of me if they are battling hard with anothr car or going into a difficult corner. I may lose a few milliseconds however if I am that close to them, I am confident of catching up later for an overtake on the straights.

However, the above is just my driving style, I have always been a high percentage driver, I don't like taking risks. I'd rather 100 top 5 finishes instead of 10 wins and 90 crashes. I think everyone will have a different aim but thats me. :)

Good luck in your future races Sand.

Haha, with senna in your avatar i figured it's be more of 10 wins and 90 crashes... Lol

" By being a racing driver you are under risk all the time. By being a racing driver means you are racing with other people. And if you no longer go for a gap that exists, you are no longer a racing driver because we are competing, competing to win. And the main motivation is to compete for victory, it’s not to come 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th."

Yeah I'm just not use to being surrounded by people that can't control their car. Sure I get smacked in Prototypes & GT as well but it's not due to loss of control (2x) but rather they might have mistakenly perceived a gap that wasn't there during overtaking. I'd consider that my fault as well as their own though.

but in Skippy at any moment you'll see a dude just spin out over and over and over.

I might give it one more go later at Brands Hatch and just start working on getting my ratings back up after the inevitable crashes :scared:

Oh sweet just noticed Radical series hitting Brands Hatch later. Maybe I'll forego Skippy and just run the track there instead.

You could do a video of a lap, or save a replay file so we can watch and maybe give you some tips on where to improve.

Well said. haha. thats why I am a sim racer and Senna is a champ.

Will do!!! I'll work on getting a rpy of the hpd at mid ohio. But gimmie a few days

I'll see if I can upload a rpy of a skippy lap too.

need to make a vid of these skippy wrecks just in case there was something i could've done differently.

That's a funny thing to hear coming from you, swiftwilly. ;)
You were singing the exact same tune just a week or two ago.

If anyone doesn't already know about it, there is a free service called GlacierTV that does live timing and commentary for league races and big iRacing events. The commentary is excellent as well as the layout.

Eric and I have a multiclass 90 minute endurance race this weekend that they will be covering. It's Saturday from 6:30 - 8pm eastern time. It will be Mustangs and MX5's. I'll be in the poorly painted MTV/JerseyShore sponsored MX5 about 2-3 seconds off the leader's pace.

Problem with forums is people don't tend to read the whole post! I did mention in my post that I changed tunes, I have learnt that these things happen, sometimes twice in a row! :)

Yeah, broadcasts are awesome. So far my GPU has been rock solid after switching the PCI power cables between the first and second graphics cards...I don't try to understand it, but it works.

I need to get some more practice in. Had to work during the practice session again (then built the computer) so I don't know how well the MX5 and Mustang play together at Barber.

How is everyone doing on Brands Hatch in the Skip? I hate the track so much, so difficult, have yet to even pull 5 laps no incidents together. spin after spin after spin....

so far my PB is 1.43.xxx. WR 1.39.xxx...PB means nothing if its once off...this is so sad...I really might skip this track. Going to be a SR killer.

Hi all, i was about to subscribe for an iracing membership, then I saw this, "Your subscription will automatically renew unless you cancel your membership prior to the expiration of your subscription period." Is there anyway to disable this? As i don't want random things charging into my credit card.
Also, I did realise that the webpage for the credit card payment is not a secured page?

Hey Tuck,

Yes, there is an option for "auto-renewal" or "Do not auto-renewal" in the My Account section.

I do not know about the cc payment secured page. I have not had any issues with my credit card and afaik no one at the iRacing forums has mentioned anything about their cc number being stolen due to iRacing. You may want to email/call iRacing or someone here may have more info?
:)

For the first part all you need to do is go in you My account settings, click the Cancel/Renew(dont worry its just another menu page). and then select the don't auto renew. If you dont plan or renewing. It just means that on the very last day of your subscription you account will be closed until you pay to open it again.(you keep all your purchased content but youll need to re subscribe to access it all)

For the second part that is weird because i just did a test payment and the page was secured. What browser are you using? Im am using chrome

At Brands Hatch in the Skip I am doing something like 1.48s. I love the course but atm don't think I want to dedicate the time to mastering it.

Looking at my stats my race PB for Watkins Glen was like a 1.29s. So I bet I could've faired much much better if I had more speed. Looking at my replays of the races I would've been far away from nooberies if I had more speed. When you're at the mid-pack (around 6th-7th) you're surrounded by people not so awesome.

[edit] So looking at Willy Wu his times are way better. His race PB is like a 1.27.6. That is a LOT better. Much closer to the race pace. That would explain the huge disparity in our experiences.

Hi, thanks for the replies. Glad to know that we can disable that autorenewal feature.

As for the secured webpage, I'm using IE as my browser and it doesn't show a secured page, no https no lock at the address bar. However when I switched to chrome, it does show a secured page and I've since joined iRacing. Not exactly sure why the IE version is not secured though..

Here is the zip for my best Skippy lap during the final Watkins Glen race. Also included is the wreck. I was in 6th place at the time battling for 5th before the 11th place dude jumps in there and causes a multi-car wreck. My skippy flew into the air and caught a lil air time. This guy just casually drives away gangsta style.

Trying to upload to youtube but they're dragging their feet atm

Do you qualify? You should. Pretty much get in the front if you do away from the middle pack. Best advise I ever received. Always stuff ups on mid pack. Also they always get bottled up in first turn due to someone going very slow allowing the top 3 to get away. This has been my experience so far.
