My accounts runs out in just over a week, so I'm thinking I should get at least one race in today, I've only did a few practice sessions so far so do you think I'd be in over my head doing a 20 lapper on Lime Rock in the MX-5? (Rookie)

No, not at all.

Just take it easy your first race, hang back from the pack, watch the people who over-drive the car crash out, and finish somewhere in the middle. If you can keep a steady 1:04 or even 1:05, I'll bet you will have a decent finish as long as you can avoid the crashes.

Ask yourself if you can do 20 laps in a row relatively incident free. That will tell you if you are ready

No they can not see you. It's a great way to get your feet wet in racing. They can go through you and vice versa.

As far as the memory sliders you should pretty much leave them where they were. You can start by configuring your hardware here. http://members.iracing.com/membersite/member/instruction/qs_07.jsp

Thanks

Maybe we should open a new thread purely on Q&A with the first post with a list faqs and guides thats already made?

I wouldn't be opposed, I do kinda feel bad for breaking up some of your conversations here

Edit: I entered my first practice a few mins ago, and I could barely do 3 consecutive laps without involuntarily joining a slalom course of wrecked cars, there was one wreck that had 5 cars going end over end and one got stuck on the pit wall, but overall I was about mid pack with a 17.504 @ south boston, and most people don't know how to merge on the track.

South Boston sucks for clean racing. Rejoining from the pits is terrible. With a single monitor you're pretty blind to anyone coming back on the track and as the person joining, there's not much room...At Lanier you can use the whole back straight to merge smoothly.

Roll call for tomorrow's Sebring 120! Who's gonna be driving what??

For any of you thinking about making a big purchase, I'd suggest taking advantage of the bonus credits deal right now. You buy $75 in credits but get $100. Then you use those credits to buy 6 or more content items and you get 20% off, or buy it all and get 25% off, good deals can be had right now. :)

Side note, these offers come quite often...last time I saw a sweet deal was like a month ago.

Yeah, that's true, the free credit offers come around quite often and the reduced membership fees come along about twice a year. So if you do it right, and get the $25 in free credits by purchasing $75 worth, and then wait until the Black Friday $49 annual membership deal, you can get away with paying $24 for the annual membership.

iRacing is more expensive than regular games, however with all the deals they have (free credits for racing, deals like this, etc) it doesn't end up being as expensive as people first think.

I think 12$ per car is a great deal compared to paying 5 million for the real deal like the williams fw31. A track day at a race track can cost you well over 40$ a day, reminds me of golf :grumpy:

I need to find a place that lets you on track for $40. PDX/HPDE tends to be more like $200+.

AutoX events are normally less than $40. Big track events where I'm from (Seattle area) run at least $150 depending on the club you are racing with.

I have to definitely agree, I did my first 2 races ever tonight, the first one I started last from the pits and went incident free until 5 laps to go and I got hit by spun cars twice but lightly and finished 4th, in my second race I started second to last from the pits and went incident free and finished 2nd 4.xxx seconds behind the leader. I went from Rookie 2.5 to Rookie 2.76 tonight, I'm happy:)

I thought about doing that but I'm still convinced to make another account and use a promo code. The thing is I'm not sure which one to choose. Either:

1 year basic membership with the NASCAR Cup Car, Daytona and Talladega for $75 : PR-CarbCup12
Regular retail price: $140.85
Discount: $65.85 (45 %)

or

One year basic membership with the Williams FW31, Silverstone, and Zandvoort. - $75: PR-GP
Regular retail price: $140.85
Discount: $65.85 (45 %)

I would like Silverstone and Zandvoort but I'm not sure about the Williams Toyota (just don't know), but I also would like to try tandem drafting which sounds awesome too.
any opinions are welcome.

Also when I do make an account I need to make a new email and add a 2 after my name correct? or is there something else?

one more question: C6-R or Ford GT, which do you feel is used by more people and is more fun to drive?

I am not a fan of the Williams. The Formula Fun has ZERO people in it, never gets a ranked race and its only up to class A where you can drive it. So if you enjoy racing it by yourself, go ahead. Otherwise I think its a bit of a waste.

Got my A License now I can "live a little" :D

Can I just ask what was the rush? I think you only joined a month ago or something? Thats a huge fast track from Rookie to A...I hope your skills are good enough otherwise your going to be pretty quickly demoted...only a few incidents will cause a huge drop in SR. (Sorry if you've been playing for a while, you might be pro. I have some strange idea that I thought you only joined recently)

So I missed pole on my split by .017, starting second and this grid is pretty damn close! Less than 1 second covering the whole 10 Vettes, 20 HPDs wich was making me a bit nervous and was surprised to only see 8 Fords. So the race starts and I quickly take the lead, lead the first 6 laps till I lock up and spin going into T7, so I sat in the inside and wait for the cars behind to go by, rejoin in 10th dead last in the Vette's field. Make my way up to 4th and this happens:

So, I limp it to the pits got full service and use my fast repair. Get back out on track and as I come back arround pass 2 Vettes that are sitting on the pits, then as 2 HPDs are laping me this damn moron totally missjudge his aprach and takes me out:

Taken out twice in less than 2 laps! So I got fed up of the BS and decide to call it a day! Casuality or causality that both guys that took me out are C and D license? I'm all for allowing everyone to run in the special events regardless of their license level, but this 2 guys clearly can't handle this cars and didn't belong in this split. iRacing needs to re-evaluate the way they make the splits for this special events, this season they've decided to go by times wich clearly isn't working. They need to either go by iRating or license level for the splits.

! I literally just thought to hop on iRacing to watch your race at 1:30 after i finished watching the Aussie GP. I tried the HPd feels good but I am definitively not ready for that car...I am ready for a solid week of iRacing now that school is out for a bit.

I'm about to embark on my first race, wish me luck, qualified 8th. I hate when people block you on a qualifying lap, I attempt to pass them and they block me, even on the straight.

That must suck jav. That's the reason why I get a bit iffy when there is 2 cars right behind me and they are focusing on trying to overtake me, instead of focusing on the next braking point.

Qualified 8th, finished 7th, I don't think that's to bad for my first try. Oh MX-5s at Lime Rock.

It's quali, just let them go. Gap yourself from them and go at it again!

I sucked big time! specially after leading the race for a few laps and knowing I had the pace to be there at the end... What's even worse is that none of the guys who hit me was fighting me for possition. On this seres you really need a lot of seat time to truly master and be truely competitive on the cars. Patience really matters, specially on a 2hr race and sharing the track with 2 other classes, you really need to drive the other cars and understand where they brake, where are they loading their suspension. where are their limits and where are their limits in relation to yours plus yours in relation with theirs.

That's a pretty good finish! Keep in mind that the track changes over tomorrow.

I might go one more time and hopefully do better, I like Limerock, and the MX-5 is great as well. Thanks.

Oh I love Limerock! Such an awesome track! Specially on the MX5! But so easy to get in trouble on the rookie series...
