Yeah this Star mazda is built to last! I pushed beyond my PB and eventually kissed the wall but she tanked it well. So much better than the Hpd in that regard!

Always stay in the race if possible!

edit - Nooooooo! site is down again!!! so lame.... was going to go Qualify....

Road Atlanta doesn't suck! Just sounds like you were pushing too hard...unless your skilled, I wouldn't suggest pushing your PB in races....

iRacing's Road Atlanta feels so different than what I'm used to (Forza). I still can't run it well.

Random thought here:

I wonder how long Nim Cross (the protest god) actually spends looking at each individual protest. I wonder if he has a team of people or is it just him. He must get hundreds of protests each day, so either he's got some help, or he only spends a matter of 1-2 minutes on each protest.

Don't take it personal; just saying it sucks for me. And that's how I won my Oval race I went way beyond my normal PB. But maybe that's just the nature of Ovals (drafting techniques, etc)

That's good advice tho btw. The second race I didnt push beyond my capabilities. Was much less exciting but I did way better

[edit] Just watched a replay of a Star Mazda running that course proper. I'm doing it wrong! Had no idea I could take T1 without tapping my brakes....

SR is calculated at 0.5x during qualifying sessions, so to lose that much you really must have had a lot more incidents than you normally do.

Yeah I kept getting hit with 1x's during the Q session. I wish I could understand why someone would build a track with all these twists and turns like this. My last race on it was fun but not as fun as my Oval races which where wheel-to-wheel the whole time. Need to practice more and pray I get a split this weekend.

Great little community though. They always share their setups, etc. Highly skilled drivers.

Forza 4's version is very nice but I agree it feels dramatically different. Sometimes I feel like the dimensions of some Forza 4 tracks are a little off. Not sure bout this one. I would have to go back and check

True story. I just drive as fast as I can. If you extract all of your capabilities without worrying about the "aliens" the racing becomes a lot more fun, I think.

Yeah this weekend I'm going to aim to get put into the splits so that should help a little. I'm sort of tempted though to switch back to Ovals this weekend because I have a much greater chance to win on that end. I'm just really pumped to hit Indy Ovals. That's one of my favorite series to watch on TV

Do Atlanta...its a good track. From my experience on it (I have driven both Star Mazda and Skip on this)..

Turn 1, this is one of the harder turns, very tricky, you can easily understeer and end up in the gravel pits or understeer and smack into the wall. Its also tricky as its the exit for the pits so a lot of accidents here. Its also wide enough for some aggro drivers to go easily 2 or even 3 wide here right at the start so my suggestion is not to go mid pack here. Qualify for the front grid, or if you see that your mid pack - think about starting from pit lane,,.

Turn 2, this is where you can get 1x if you want to shave off some time or simply because you totally missed the apex. Not going to go into the debate of whether this is "illegal" but yea..just pointing it out, cop a 1x and you can gain a lot of speed here without any warning flags.

Turn 3, 4 Esses, pedal to the metal.....if your not, your doing it wrong.

The rest is quite easy and I won't go into detail with...until.

the final chicane, get comfortable and know your braking zones here, make sure you can hit it time and time again because you can make up so much time here against others and if you get your exit speed optimal, it will lead to a very easy overtake when you go into the last turn and head down the home straight. (I almost won a race here but I chcoked, ha!, and lost the race by 0.7s).

Good luck.

Okay so T1 I have discovered I do not need to hit my brakes.... So I lost a ton of time there.

T2 I am getting slapped with 1x's cause I'm doing it wrong. I was actually happy with my performance on the very last chicane until I entered my first race and kissed the wall. So need to do a little more work there

But hey I am building my iRating backup. Just want to get it backup to 1200s at least before next season cause I'll be focusing on Ovals a lot more. But don't want for my Road iRating to be crazy low while I work on my Oval career (if that makes sense)

Another tip sandbox, if you reach your goal for irating for a week, no matter how good you feel etc, better leave it on a high ;)

nothing like 1 crap race after you reach your objective to throw it back another - 100 haha

Haha! Yeah that would suck for real!

Starting to dig Road Atlanta now. It slowly grows on ya after almost 100 laps is invested. I've dipped into the 1.20s now. Just need to work on making that more consistent. Still losing time at T1. When I compare my PB lap to a lap from someone in the 1.18s it appears T1 is killing me and that other turn right after Split 3 (Turns 6 & 7).

[EDIT] I just won a race at Road Atlanta!!!

Started on pole and finished 1st. Now that was a lot of fun. Wasn't wheel-to-wheel battle the whole time but it was high pressure the whole race.... I guess I'm on a roll now!!

I can't wait to move up past short tracks in Oval. I love running the Street Stocks at Charlotte. Just took the win there after staying on the leader's bumper for 10 laps, he finally got loose.

grats, your on a big roll now it seems.

Remember to finish on a high, makes wonders for your week.

Won my second race, which was my first race in 2 weeks! Legend oval again. I can't seem to figure Lanier out but I got South Boston in the 17.387 to 17.450 on the first few laps

I was running pretty good at my last Street Stock race at Charlotte but ended up going to hard and putting myself into the wall + spun. Still ended up finishing semi-ok I think. Still haven't got my first oval win, but I've mostly been doing Legends where I am super passive, it is fun navigating through all the crashes though.

For some reason, I'm having slight trouble with my wheel, there's something kind of mushy about it and I embarrassingly put my self in the wall before the green flag then again under green in the second corner... I ended up rage quitting  you win some and you lose some I suppose. also that race was crazy with people's qualifying laps, my first race I started on the pole with a 17.390, then this race I started 7th with that time.

also, the game wouldn't let me send a message while in the pits, I hit T and typed then hit enter and nothing happened and I could get rid of the text bar so I sent the message after getting to the main menu. Am I doing something stupidly wrong?

Are SS races anywhere near as bad as most legends races? I'm thinkin about trying it

tight battle for time trails now. 3 people vying for no.1 place with me in there also.

For that special person out there who disses the competition because its "only division 6", I am overall 38th out of all Skips. ;) I am not a very good driver at all but I am pretty happy with my achievement...really want that no.1...don't think I will ever be in such a position again.

3 more weeks left and my favourite track is coming up, please don't let me down Suzuka...

I might have to change my tactics a bit, I think I will start posting my time trails during the later part of the week as I don't want to show my hand.

I'm not the right person to ask, because I rarely have any problems in the Legends, even in bottom split races.

I would say in general the Street Stock is a little easier to drive, so I see less accidents and spins, but they still happen.

So for me it's been about equal, no real problems with either series, but I would guess most people would say Street Stocks are a safer bet. Probably why iRacing has decided to swap them next season (SS's will be rookie cars, Legends will be Adv Rookie and D-class.)

After watching Mad94d's video in the video thread, the V8 Supercars look like great fun.

They should be getting the NTM soon though as well as the new tire vulcanization update which could really completely alter the driving style required in those cars. I have next to zero experience in them except for a test session, but from the videos I've seen they require an almost excessive amount of sliding to go fast.

Since the NTM typically makes it more difficult to slide (as shown with the Riley DP and other cars) and makes the cars more grippy I wonder how that will effect people driving it. Also with this new vulcanization update, no longer will you be able to push the tires so hard because they will overheat much faster and lose life much faster as well.

Could be really interesting for the V8 fans.

Well, first race back was not successful. Ended up forfeiting with 55 minutes left to go. Got in a crash :-( Was faster than the person in front of me. So I kept going for passes but backed out because the guys driving style was really weird. (Brake really early, the over speed the corner a bit, and then get on the gas). Finally I decided to make a move, late braked and got along side enough that he should have definitely seen me. But, nope. Turned in on me and crashed.

Guess I can't rely on people to have as good of awareness as real race car drivers.:dunce:

It's tough, especially if they are on a single screen using the correctly calculated FOV, they might not have even known you were there at all. But that's what the spotter is for, so they should have known, but some people turn the spotter off too.

Yeah, I hear you. you'd think if you're vision was that hindered. You'd find a way to at least be able to know if someone is there though. That's just asking for trouble if you have the spotter off and have a single screen with a close FOV. I use my mirrors a lot too...

That's a tough loss Kamuifanboy

Go GTP! We gotta continue to step up our game!

Good ole Legends. I still haven't raced the car since the NTM was introduced. Some SK Modified races can get a little like that tho. Requires great awareness of the track

Don't let them win! I took the TT champion in my division last season for Grand Am & was division champion for races as well. So I got my certificates on my 1st try. Just got lucky. All my competition was just majorly slacking (so I didnt really have to fight for anything). Sounds like you got a fight on your hands in your case

Yeah that's going to be really interesting. I hope everyone enjoys the 1st iteration of NTM on it. I think the devs are getting better at applying the NTM updates.

Yep I race with proper FOV for my screen and moved it closer as you advised. What I do is quickly look to my left / right to measure the distance between us. But if they are the faster car- I just let them go once they get right next too me and I hope they extend the same courtesy if I end up passing them later if they make a mistake or something

I finally adjusted to not being able to see my tires on the Star Mazda. I also now have my iPhone plugged in running iSpeed as I race. I mostly only use it to show me how much fuel that I have left though. Still would like to do it proper and acquire a small USB monitor but I've been a little lazy getting to the store / ordering it.

Can someone tell me the exact procedure for serving a black flag stop-n-go penalty. Last night in a rookie race I somehow rolled a few inches at the start and got the black flag. I came in and served it but then got one for illegal pit exit. Then I came in and stopped a timer started counting pit service time. I think I then hit escape and then reentered the race. When I left the pits the black flag was still there. I think I then wiped out and towed back. That still didn't wipe off the flag. I ended up getting disqualified

I read the sporting code and I get that a tow can't be used to serve the flag. I can't figure out why the first time didn't cancel it though

To serve a stop and go do I just come into pit stop then immediately go again? Do I hit ESC and restart? I want to be this right so I don't screw up another race

Same here! Right now, as much as I try I can't drive that thing!!

I think they're being very cautious with the v8 NTM. If its not right there will probably be a riot:lol:

I tried using the correct FOV the other night for about 2 or 3 hours. Think it had me at 53 degrees for my setup. Its not too bad, but my biggest gripe is not being able to see the apex on tight turns which completely screws my lap times and race lines. I like it, but would work better with triple screens which isn't happening for awhile. I'll just continue to use 68 degrees.

anyone going to watch the world series?

No F1 this weekend so I think it'll be fun to watch..however I find the world series on iracing (so faR) has been pretty boring...
