Hey guys I have a question. If I set a qualifying time (say something like 1.21) but then later do another session that same week and hit a slower time- surely iRacing will use my fastest time still? I always wondered bout that

Yeah, it will use your faster time.

So... I did the 20 GMT GT/Proto race, everything was going well besides the usual LMP loonies and idiots, took the lead and built a good 7 second gap that later got destroyed by an LMP guy that just wouldn't go by, pretty anoying situation but manageable... But then with 2 corners to go all hell breaks loose!!! Check this guy out guys, 2400+ iRating A licensed guy but poor poor judegement:

At the begining of that lap he takes out the second place Vette that was 3 seconds behind me at the time!

For those of you who think that the top split is all clean and good judgement, be prepared to deal with huge egos like this. This guy even tried to blame he taking out the other LMP on me! What a joke!

The first video is showing as private.

The second video, I would almost blame this on the netcode. He was WAY to close when he had all that room to the right, but I don't think he ever made "actual" contact, just the netcode assumed that he would, so it made the contact happen.

Im very patient passing in the LMP. I pride myself on my great trafficking ability. i make alot of time up going threw traffic but that is because i am patient, and i know where to set up a well planned pass. it is a shame though :( even more reason why less people drive the vettes and the ford gt's.

The biggest problem here is a guy driving with the whole front of the car missing! First of all how do you even get away with that! Second if you are missing your front wing you have no place racing other people, there's a point where you just need to pull out of a race and that guy was way past that point...
Video should work now

Thank God we are getting a GT only series in 2 weeks!

Very excited about the GT only series as well!

As far as the front wing goes, I've seen people in the forums saying that the aero isn't modeled correctly on front wings on a few different cars, so in certain situations you can damage or lose the wing and get only a very minimal loss in speed.

I think they need hpd drivers read a paragraph before they can compete in lmp series, and there will be a timer of 30 minutes to read it, and after that there will be a simple test, if you fail you read it over. If you fail more then 4 times you will lose 100 irating, as well as losing .07 off your safety rating.

In this paragraph it will be about:
-How to pass cleanly
-How to pass slower cars

If you are trying to pass a slower car, freaking wait until a straight, or when the other guy has given you the OK (pulls over to the left or the right to let you pass).

I also have to deal with this in the mx5 cup series, 3 car wide and some moron who is like 3 seconds faster then me keeps trying to pass in corners. I brake into the corner, he misses his braking point and crashes into me. YET I GET THE 4x....

Having incidents cost 4x more for the HPD drivers should do the trick!

Thanks Kamuifanboy!

Grr, I shoulda listened to Swift. Started 2nd position just now but out of the blue I blew my engine when I downshift to 4th going into T1 at Road Atlanta. Was trying to gain a little speed on my opponent by lifting. Grrr! What burns me up this has never happened before during practice... Otherwise I wouldn't use that technique. I kind of feel like the sim decided to roll the dice against me :ouch:

Lol! That happened once to me on the Mustang on the parade lap!

Wow that's a tough break right above Jav. That really sucks he stole victory from you like that! His HPD is clearly damaged yet he's trying to drive like its 100%. And his iRating is that HIGH? WTH!!!!! I've always driven way cleaner than that. I even got thank-you's from GT cars

I managed to take the victory thank's to him taking out second place at the begining of the last lap!

i think was really causes the issues with hpd passing vettes and gt is due to the amount of hpd's compared to all other drivers. i was in a race once with 20 hpds, 2 vettes and 4 gt's. it comes down to practice, even in a race, you get practice from passing. and you just dont learn anything passing 6 people... when it should be 10 hpd, 10 vettes, 15 gts!. i wasnt aware their was going to be a gt session next session. that is awesome. does anyone know what the weeks will look like yet?

I think what makes it even worse is the guy chasing, when they see a gap drop due to traffic they all of a sudden want to make up all they time they've lost. Simply put people just won't accept the fact that in this kind of racing you are gonna loose time.

Also, iRacing has the top speeds of these cars ALL screwed up. If people are expecting the cars to have the same speed characteristics as they do in real life LeMans racing, they will be caught extremely off guard.

oh god dont get me started on the dp vs mustang. being caought extremely off guard is an understatement.

Yeah, the Vette is kinda' hard to get by on the HPD at first, but once you get some practice you'll have no problem buildng your race and timing your passing oportunities. Wich brings us back to the root of the problem wich is practice, this guys are just not dedicating enough time to practice...

You may have misunderstood (or perhaps I am misunderstanding you? LOL).

As far as I know the Riley DP and the Mustang both have accurate performance to their real-world counterparts.

In the Proto/GT series all three cars do not perform the way they do in real life. If you watch the series in real life, you'll see very different results in the straights.

He was talking about how quick the DPs sneak up to the Mustangs.

Yup, those are completely mismatched for each other as far as speeds go, even for multi-class racing it's just too big of a difference.

But the Prototypes and GT's belong together, they just need to have their top speeds fixed so it's more like real life. Not that this would do much to fix the problem with douchey HPD drivers, but at least passing strategies would be a little more realistic.

Well it's just been discovered the reason LMPs struggle against the top speed of Ford GT's is it has no penalty for drag. It's top speed is the same no matter how much wing it's running, it does however create grip.

That was a quote from a member on the iRacing forums, and it's been verified. So right now, it's much more difficult for the HPD's to pass a Ford GT in the straights than it should be.

I sure hope the Caddy finds itself running with the Riley!

That's interesting... I'd love to see the Vette updated to GT-E specs to run with the Ford!

Lol! Just remembered my first ever C class race was on the Mustang at Limerock on the Grand Am Series!! That was a real scary experience!

wow, blew my engine...:)

Same thing happened to me in the Riley during the 2.4 hour race. I practiced and logged probably 300 or so laps leading up to the race and never once blew the motor. It was around 20 min into the race going into turn 1. When it happened I was in shock. Hit the tow button and made a lap in the house yelling and cursing all kinds of evil. Had the wife and dog freaking out. Then jumped back in the rig and finished the race like nothing happened. Wish I had that on video. Would've been a priceless YouTube moment.

Yea its weird isn't it. I did 100's of laps without any issue and boom, there she goes. But I know why, entirely my fault. I got distracted by someone going off the track :)

Looks like I got a pretty decent fan base, quite a few people watch me now haha :sly:

About to do another race.

First race: adjusting my seat and I did a false start. lol. Blew engine on lap 12/15. Ouch :)

GOOD NEWS though...I think I have gone over a mental hurdle as such, I don't get worked up by races or doing badly at races now. Good for health!

I think I will aim to get 4.0 in next few weeks to fast track to C class, and do 2 races in C class to get the minimum for promotion at end of the season form C to B class? I hope it works.

Okay coo I did pretty decent in an 'almost' high SOF. Finished 9th out of 20 people and earned some iRating. Some numpty rear ended me going into the final chicane and ruined my chances of finishing in the top 5 (*note, this guy is not any faster than me there by any means, he just thought he could do a desperate dive bomb and failed miserably). Had an easy time getting into the Top 10. There was a lot of wrecked Star Mazdas that race. Perhaps 20 cars is too much for a Class C open wheeler race.

I think that might be last race of this week. Tomorrow I will start training for Sebring I guess. Want to finish this week on a semi-strong note. Met my goal for where I want to be on Road side for the time being. Tomorrow I want to just go out with my friends and just kick it....

wow, blew my engine...:)

That happened to me as well in an earlier race

Yeah there's some dice rollin' going on cause I know I must've practiced that manuever I was attempting to do like 50+ laps and never saw any sign of blowing my engine. Then the game waits til I'm in the heat of an exciting race and decides to blow it up.

Should be a bumper sticker

"WE DRIVE OPEN WHEELERS, DONT GET SO CLOSE"

"MY BRAKE POINTS WILL BE DIFFERENT FROM YOURS"

Looking forward to new cars, I am quite over the damage prone open wheelers to be honest.
