Well, I'll put it this way, if I had a set budget and wanted to get everything at once, I would go "lower-end" and get a full setup.

So instead of $600 for the T500RS I would do something like this:

$199 - Fanatec CSR Wheel
$150 - Fanatec CSR-Elite Pedals
$80 - Derek Speare Econo-Sport Sequential Shifter
$150 - Thrustmaster TH8RS shifter

Now of course you would only be able to use all of these things at the same time in PC games, but you could still use the wheel and pedals on PS3.

The T500RS does have more powerful force feedback, and a better wheel rim (IMO at least) but then you are left with standard pedals (no load cell).

Of course the stuff I mentioned isn't the only way to do it, there are many combinations you could do for about $600.

speaking of the CSR, I've also seen this http://www.fanatec.de/webshop/new_u...d=112&osCsid=974c5e30450b9680ef41515870ae48cf

Sorry to interrupt.... but talk of NTM coming to V8 mid season!

"Just ran the @iRacing @v8supercars on the NTM and it's sick. Thanks @shanevg9 and excited for your final feedback so we can release it"

"Also want to thank @smclaughlin93 for his help with @shanevg9 on developing the NTM on the @iRacing V8. Goal is to release before S3"

Can't wait, been a long time coming and sounds like it won't disappoint from what i've heard from Scott McLaughlin. 👍

cool! is it going to be mustang and v8 or just v8?

Oh wow, only 2 weeks?

I think if they could get it out in the next week or two it wouldn't be as much of a problem, as people will have more time to get used to it before the end of the season.

I'm excited to give it a shot either way.

That's not a bad deal! The CSR shifters are kinda love/hate, they aren't very realistic, but they are a little better than the G25 shifter. Then you could drop the TH8RS shifter off that list and find something else you can buy with that $600. Maybe some iRacing content?

The V8 Supercar is what they are discussing now for the NTM. The Mustang hasn't been mentioned, but if they got it working on the V8SC, the Mustang can't be far behind. I've read the NTM programmers are having difficulty getting the heavier cars like the V8SC to behave correctly. Guess they got it worked out.

Ya, the only problem is I don't have the time right now which sucks, racing season is already started and the car hasn't moved. down the road though

oh cool so the mustang is probably a season or 2 out I'm assuming

I wish I could give you setup advice, but I just use the fixed setup normally. I tried a shared setup in the first GT race and it was a disaster since I was so accustomed to the fixed. Even after running almost 100 laps between test, practice, and the race, I still ran a faster time 1:21's, with the fixed.

For me, that section isn't too bad, but I can understand if the car was setup a little looser than fixed it could get very hairy. All I can recommend is to be very delicate with how you come on and off the throttle as to not upset the weight balance.

Might have been too early to call it loose, its okay really once you make several passes and know what line will keep it stable.

I've given up on making my own setup, I can't really feel any changes I've made. Now using Chris Damron's setup and I can run some 1'49s and pretty consistent 1'50s. Might be good enough for my division.

Oops, didn't mean to write 1:21's, was crossing my numbers, I meant 1:51's on fixed, and 1:53's (best of 1:52) on that shared setup I got in open practice.

I'll be the first to admit that I am not all that great, when the cars are setup a little looser I normally can't react quickly enough to save it, so I go with fixed and take what I can get.

Ugh.....

Worst race I've ever had :(

Something like 17 incidents in one Cadillac race at Mosport. I was testing the fuel saving strategies they've been talking about on the forums to avoid pitting. So pretty much shifting up early, keeping it slightly below 100% throttle, coasting instead of braking, etc. I was doing decent with it, turning 1:23's and 1:24's, but my lines were messed up. Hit the grass with my rear tire, spun into another car, 4x. Made it back to the pits with a few more 1x's trying to keep other cars from wrecking since I was damaged. Did this same thing 2 more times. Not sure what was going on, I guess because I wasn't driving the same line I'm used to, and driving a completely different way than I normally do, my concentration was just off.

My fuel saving strategy would have worked, I was sitting in 10th place, about 8 seconds behind a pack of 4 or 5 at around lap 7 and had saved enough fuel to start running 1:22's, had I crashed (and crashed and crashed) I think it would have given me enough to get there with about a half lap to spare. Probably a 5th or 6th place finish.

Lost 0.81 SR. LOL! :D

Crazy thing is looking at your stats you really trying out a lot of different series in one week. What is your favorite road series? You like them all equally so far or is the Caddy edging them out?

@Madison, Awesome! I know you've been waiting on that NTM to hit the V8. Was watching this V8 supercar race I recorded recently that they ran at Sydney. They look like awesome fun. Hopefully we will get V8 supercar events here in the US in 2013 unless something else has changed....

That is awesome that you will be running the N24. One of my dreams is to race there. Good Luck!

If you look at my signature you will find my website link, but I don't update it like I do the other 3 social media platforms. I wish I could add more onboard video, but I was strictly given directions not to give out the ones from my practice sessions at fuji and the series doesn't allow us to have them during race weekends. So I can't really help you guys out there. Sorry :[

Awesome I'll check them all out man. edit- oh snap! You appear to have a lot of nice Star Mazda experience. Maybe I will hit you up for some tips sometime :)

Madison can drive the hell out of the Star as well. Should've hit him up while I was in that session with him

make your own website, if you dont have already one, and keep posting updates there, then link them here with onboard video - just as i do after every race weekend.

On this note, i also may add, that im going to be running the 24h nurburgring race in an SP7 Porsche GT3 997

Chris

Don't think I knew you raced that is very cool. Do you have a site link as well?

I'm trying a little of everything for fun, I'm not competing for anything, just driving whatever I feel like. I've driven most of these cars before, except the Caddy and the NASCAR A-class car. The Cadillac is pretty cool, I really like it so far, but I think my new favorite series is the GT Challenge. It was absolutely awesome having around 35 of us mixed evenly between Ford GT's and Corvettes. I'm even more excited for when they add the McLaren into the mix as well.

I did a race earlier fuel saving and won relatively easily. Mostly was doing high 20's and low 21's all race backing off early into corners and had 3L left at the end. So could even push a slight bit harder if I needed to. Personally, I think the car needs to be even shorter fueled so you can't do the no stop strategy as it's just not fun. It's calculated racing and is not enjoyable at all cruising around 1-2 seconds off the pace deliberately. I've done both methods, flat out with a stop and saving and if someone no stops the 1 stopping drivers have no chance.

Great car though, loving the Caddy. Can't wait for the NTM on the V8 (I know i've said it a lot but seriously....)

I was thinking about this. I run really consistent 1'20-1'21 at Mosport. Running 2s slower per lap, for 20 laps = 40s lost. A pitstop for 2 gallons of fuel isn't much different than that, so I don't think its worth the gamble.

So I've lost about 500 iRating so far this week.

I'm not trying the fuel saving method because I'm trying to learn how to drive this understeering beast. I'm going full throttle each and every lap. 👍
Unfortunately I haven't had a single race in it without incident. Last night I crashed with three to go, giving up a hefty second place, and just now I let the limiter off 0.0000000000001 s too early and got black flagged.

iRating comes and goes. you'll get it back. Recently lost almost 1000 iRating in a single week, so it could be much worse hehe.
I think I've figured out how to keep it on the road though, so that's an improvement. I've never been big on trail braking, but I'm learning how it is in an understeering car.

I really can't see where I'm coming up 3 seconds short in the Ford GT. A 1'46.xxx replay looks like slow motion compared to driving a 1'49.025

Drove the Radical SR8 for the very first time today. In fact it was actually in an official race(no practice or test drive at all). Went in blind and came in 4th with 0 incidents. :dopey:

Didn't even realize I owned this car LOL! It's a very nice and fact car so I think I'll continue racing it 👍

Did some GT practice at the glen boot with chicane, I did a 1:53.750, I know it's no where near fast but dag that car is low, curbs feel like driving over a parking block in a parking lot

Yeah, best I can do is 1:51's, but 1:52's and 1:53's are my consistent lap times. I'm slow, but I'm still having fun racing other slow guys.

We should start a league for slow guys, if you turn faster than a 1:53 in the race you have to serve a drive through penalty. Haha!

Holy Cow, I figured out how to do something that no rookie I've seen be able to... RUN A 36.344 ON THE BOTTOM line @ Charlotte in a SS. I know there are a lot of rookies who have run 36.0xx but they all tun the top line which makes them inconsistent and I can run in the 4's consistently, the trick is to only roll out half way of the throttle just before apex and go full throttle just after apex. don't lift all the way out or you start sliding up the track:tup:💡

superbike, lol I did only 2 of 15 clean practice laps in the GT, you still don't want me in the slow guy league lol

also before that SS time trial I had a race. Some guy behind me hit me on the grid before the pace car moved! then he hit me 5 more times in the 1 yellow lap! I ended up giving 3 spots up on the start, and made them all up plus 5 more 3 laps later when there was a huge wreck that started in the apex of turns 1&2 and like dominoes there were 2 spins below me and 4 spins above me coming down the track while I'm on the apron. I literally just went through the one hole, and hoped nothing happened since I didn't go through there at full throttle like every one else  after a couple more spins in front of me by both lapped cars and the spots ahead of me, I finished 3rd :)

My SR earlier this week was 2.34 now it's 2.57 woohoo I have broke even

Are you talking about non fixed? Hopefully because I'm running 1:48.111 with fixed series set.

Can anyone point me to a good guide on how to use fraps and other video editing software to get compilations on to youtube?

I've tried using fraps and windows movie maker and the settings I use result in craptastic quality (graining and pixilated).

I haven't use movie maker in a long time, but are you rendering the video?

Entered an SS Race (qualified 6th but the 4th place guy was a no show so I took his spot) and I lost 3 spots and gained 2 back by passing and 1 by avoiding a wreck and then I was working on the first guy that passed me and I could have had him in 1 lap but I spun and hit the inner wall in pit road @ 90 mph and got a penalty for speeding  and gained .01 SR, I'm happy

I was in the same boat as you (did you see my Skip Suzuka vid?). That was my first go.

Regarding the grain etc, FRAP records 1:1. i.e. what you see is what it records. So just wondering how high is your settings on the replay?

Otherwise FRAPS + Windows movie maker is fine.

Just finished my first race in the Ford GT. Lost .70 SR thanks to some HPD's who just decided rear ending me under braking was a good idea. 3 4x's. Including 1 in the warm up. Still won the race luckily.

GT Challenge series, which is all open set.

Windows Live Movie Maker does the same for me. Handbrake is great if you don't need to do any editing. I gave up and just used my Macbook Pro and iMovie last time, after getting the filesize down with handbrake.

It's quite frustrating losing that much SR over someone elses stupidity :(

no kidding, I haven't had a clean race today, I think I'll stick with the GT since that's the only one that's been clean enough for me (although I have had a lot of incidents myself). I would rather wreck myself than take both of us out, so I've been getting a lot of 1x's for off track because people are incapable of passing at the right moment or actually racing one on one. I did a pretty clean mustang race but I still lost points from a 1x every other lap.:ouch:

Crazy SS race I avoided at lest 5 wrecks, it was crazy
how Do I post the replay link?

now rookie oval 2.67, I ran 1 GT race and I lost it all on my own in the second turn in the boot that uphill right turn and I don't think I finished, I spent 6 mins in the pits with 14 mins of optional left and I spun twice and quit and gained .01 SR from class c 2.14 to 2.15 lol
