In the graphics tab in the options menu, right where the frame rate settings are, what does the 'Vertical Sync' do?

I was messing around with settings to get the best quality to match 120FPS so I can have no trouble with my 100 FPS cap. I accidentally clicked vertical sync and my frame rate went up to about 220. Then I re-entered my test session and my frame rate was at 65 FPS. Then a couple tests later after rejoining with it set back to my cap, it finally went back to 100 FPS. I have no idea what it did though other than mess with my frame rate

The only thing I know for sure about vsync is that it smoothes out the graphics, but may cause imput delay. Other than that people disagree about what it does. I didnt like it, but others swear by it. Oh and I think the fps is tied to your screen refresh rate.

Most guys that are playing the points game perfect their setups in open practice, test sessions, and hosted sessions early in the week and then run a race or two near the end of the week. Some also race other series as well, but most of the top points holders in each series dedicate quite a bit of time to that one car.

I'm currently placed 3rd in division 3 both in the fixed and open series of IndyCar road, and that's with a week less in the open series.

I usually race one race per week in each but it's mostly because I lack the time. I only race more than once if I screw up in the first try. My goal is to get at least half a race done so I can get the credits at the end of the season.

I would race all day if I could but my wife would be very angry at me if I did. She already thinks I spend too much time on it as it is!

This week for example will be very busy for me. I have to learn the Barber track which I just bought, race at least once both in the fixed and the open Indy road series, then on Thursday night I have a private league race with the IndyCar at Infineon, and I still want to do a few races with the Street Stock at Charlotte to get my oval SR up.

Fortunately the Street Stock races can be done when my wife is not at home.

I feel your pain!

On Sunday I had a good opportunity to get my second overall Skippy win at Suzuka west.

I started third and was easily capable of staying in touch with 1st and 2nd cars. I was a little bit faster than 2nd place so I start to put on the pressure. He goes wide at the hairpin (T10?T11?) and I stay on the line to get ahead of him. He dives hard left to stay on the tarmac and catches my rear right wheel and spins me into the wall resulting in a damage and a call to the tow truck! The criminal continues on his merry way and takes second place. Not a word of apology or recognition of his error. Such a shameful little man!

Don't think this will ever change. Theres no real damage in a sim so people will look out for themselves hurt. If this was in rea life, he wouldn't of done that for fear of a proper penalty from race stewards, damage to himself, damage to his car. Bad luck buddy, hope this is a rare thing.

V-sync tries to synchronize the game's refresh rate to that of your monitor so there's no flickering while playing. If your monitor has a refresh rate of 60MHz and you can run iRacing above 120 fps it will stay fixed at 120 fps with V-Sync on. If it can't run that high it will drop to 60 fps which is the same refresh rate of the monitor.

If you notice flickering while playing, or the frame rate varies too much and it's bothering you, then turning V-Sync on would probably help. If it doesn't, or if you want to get the frame rate as high as it can then leave it off.

Someone at iRacing posted a quote comment on the protest system that the system should also penalize real stupid moves, too, and not just blatant "intent" in the current system.

I had a couple of races last night at Road Atlanta with the skip and everyone has been most polite and fair. good stuff.

Street stocks are Charlotte are so much fun. Good luck surviving the inevitable crash within the last two laps.

I guess these cars don't really gain any advantage driving in a tandem. I found the #2 car running an outside line and decided to join up with him instead of the cars in our group staying down low. We were able to keep up pretty well but I was actually making contact with him at one point with no effect. At least I think I was, there was a gap on the replay but it wasn't getting tighter.

I can't turn a quick qualifying lap at all, I'm always the last of those who qualified. Never have any trouble fighting my way up into the lead pack though. The good thing is, even if there is a wreck, I'm still finishing roughly in the middle of the field. It almost seems like most of these drivers don't know to pit with fuel and tire changes unchecked and get their new car immediately. I know its rookie, but I'm not driving against any rookies...

Finally recovering my Road stats...Assuming this next Skippy race doesn't turn bad I'll get back above 1900 iR and over 2.00 SR. Was looking bad last weekend, I've been farming stats from Street Stocks, Mazda Cup, and Skippy. I finally know my way around Atlanta.

So I shouldn't have made that last post. Halfway through the Skippy race, in fifth position, with a good shot at taking 4th. Braking on the back straight and suddenly I'm smoking. Bah. I was surprised that I was able to get a new car, I thought engine damage was always a DNF. Still finished 8th and gained .53 SR.

Well since I didn't have to drive it very far, or very hard from where the damage happened, I may have saved the engine from further damage. I've wrecked or partially blown either the Mustang or MX5 and saw the oil pressure plummeting. Maybe if you get it to the pitbox without totally destroying the motor it just treats it like any other damage and you get the free fix.

I've blown it a few times by downshifting to fast, the other time I blipping and blew the engine. Out of about 50 races I have blown it 3 times. Not great

Downshifting too early. You actually put strain on your engine from slight overrevs and it all adds up. From my experience, when you just plain overrev the car and blow it up, its a nice loud boom and your day is over. That's catastrophic failure. Other times when you've just been pushing too hard and making downshifts a little bit early running it past the rev limiter lie I was, you'll just suddenly get a trail of black smoke with no audio warning that something happened. It results in seriously reduced power and a rough running engine (struggling to gain RPM, not unlike engine damage in Forza).

I think that's the first time I've damaged a Skippy engine. I blow up MX5s quite often though.

I wonder how hot the Street Stock can run? The whole front field had a pileup and I had minor front end damage, but got around all the wrecked cars in third place. A couple laps later I noticed water temps at 260F...Nobody close to me on the same lap so I'd go a lap at full throttle then lift for about five seconds twice on the next lap, it'd drop about 20 degrees from that.

Guess I broke the radiator.
