The safety rating is calculated incidents vs how many corner you did. So if you are involved in 2 incidents and quit the race by lap 3 and the winner finish 25 laps and was involved in 5 incidents his Safety rating score will be higher than yours. Also you lose a lot of iRating if you quit a race.
If possible I will finish the race even if I have no chance on getting even close to the rest of the field. It could be really annoying because your faster than 50% of the field, but you can't really pass them because in the second you do it you get the blue flag. I know the sim doesn't punish you if you ignore the blue flag, but I'm not going to be "that guy"
Last race I did I got a blinker in front of me and I should have backed off, but you know. When the green flag drop so does the IQ. It ended up with him blinking mid corner and he came back somewhere I didn't expect and had to avoid him and ended up outside the track. A lot of pit time put me down 11 laps. But since I finished the race after 10-15 minutes in the pit (had to do two stops) I actually gained safety rating on the race because I finished the 22 laps after the pit stop with no incidents.
I see a few guys over drive the car to be fast and hopefully gain iRating, but if you go check those guys out you see they have been A-Class and are now C-Class because they end up losing to much Safety Rating during their races.
I can only talk for myself and I rather lose iRating than safety rating because my license say I'm a safe driver and I can do a lot more races with a higher licence.
I found something that was said in one of the driving school movies as a eye opener. It's a time to race and it's a time to focus on finishing the race. And after only a bit more than a month on the service I can easily spot a guy I just wont race. As they are reckless and it would only end bad if I tried race them.
