Done for the night. Two reboots and still nada after finishing a Skippy test at the Glen. Hopefully they find a fix while I sleep.

Since I took the time to write this up on our team forum, I thought it might be useful for everyone here to understand how the radios work.
-----------------------------------------------------------

So a quick rundown of how to use these. First off, go into your options>sound settings and assign buttons for next/previous channel. I used the up and down arrows on my keyboard.

Your radio transmits and receives on the various channels. You can listen to multiple channels at once, but only transmit on one at a time. Below are the main commands that we'll need to use. The syntax for all of these commands are: @command <channelname>

Note: None of this is case sensitive, and all channel names are converted to UPPER CASE.

Add - Used for adding a channel. You can have up to 32 of them, including the standard ones. Don't think of this as creating a channel, but that you're tuning the radio to a certain frequency. Its really just a keyword and anyone who has a channel with the same characters will be sharing a channel. When adding a channel, you're automatically be scanning, transmitting, and have that channel immediately selected. Usage: @add 49Team

Remove - Opposite usage to Add. Completely removes the channel from your radio only. Remember, its like a frequency. Anyone else with that channel name still has that channel to use. Usage: @remove 49Team

List - Displays a listing of all the channels in your radio, and whether you are scanning, transmitting, or have that one selected. You'll see something like:

s @Admin
st @RaceControl
st @Public
s @Drivers
st a @49Team

This means you have @Admin, @RaceControl, @Public, @Drivers, and @49Team channels in your radio. "s" before a channel means you are scanning it. You will hear/see anything sent on those channels. "t" before a channel means you can transmit to it. If you select that channel, you have "speaking permissions". I believe @Admin only has speaking permission for Admins, but that we can talk on the RaceControl channel. Not totally sure, so that list could be inaccurate. The "a" before @49Team indicates that it is the selected channel, so your voice or text messages will be shared on that one. Usage: @list

Scan - Toggles the radio to scan or not scan a particular channel. Scanning = you'll hear/see messages. You cannot unscan certain channels, such as @Admin and @RaceControl. Usage: @scan stclass

Transmit - Toggles the radio to be able to transmit or not when you select that channel. I think that, when transmit is off for a channel, it does not appear as you cycle through them with your assigned buttons. Transmit = if you can send message. Usage: @transmit @drivers

Noscan - Turns scanning off on all channels that it is possible to do so. Will basically leave you listening to Admins and Marshals. Usage: @noscan

Help - By itself @help displays a list of the available commands. @help followed by one of those commands, such as "@help transmit" will give a brief message about transmit command.

Our use

Whenever you join a league related session, in the text chat, type "@add 49Team" (without the quotes) to add the channel to your radio. Then type @list to verify it was added, and to check the scanning and transmitting status of the other channels. When in the car, I believe the most public channel we have access to is @Drivers. I think @Public also exists, but is used when outside of the car and for spectators. Under normal race conditions, it makes sense that we keep @Drivers selected. This way we can immediately communicate with a driver should the need present itself, without having to press more buttons to get to that channel. Switch to the @49Team channel (do not get this confused with @Team, again, that is only for communicating with those registered as your spotter) for when you need to talk to just the teammates. Such as pit strategies etc.

I think that covers everything...check the release notes for full details.

Heey, saw you at Barber!

And thanks for the write up copy. Not that I really needed it, but good information anyway.

(now I know your team radio channel..)

Haha, yeah yeah...thought about editing it for a second, but whatever. I haven't actually heard from Dexter today to know what we're going to use for sure.

I kept trying to create @Team49 and it wasn't happening. No sort of error message, it just wouldn't create a channel. Would have been nice if they mentioned that.

In the Grand Am series? I've never actually raced the DP, so I don't know when I'll be finding sessions.

I was actually thinking for your next years Rolex league with the DP, a few pages back you kinda let us know about it. And a few post up you mention it again.
But if you do races when I normally sleep it wouldn't really be anything I be interested in.

I know it's not now or soon, but I can commit to things in the future.

I don't know the pace of you guys, but I guess it's only one way to figure that out ;)

Ah. Well that series will be on every other Saturday (with the Continental series taking place on the Saturdays between them). The session opens at 2100GMT for Continental, and I'd expect the same for Rolex. 110 minute practice, 30 minute split class qualifying at 2250, and a 90 minute race starting at 2320.

Two unofficial races later; DAMN. :( SR went up, iRating went down. :dunce: "No, officer, I'm not sandbagging, I promise. Yes, officer, my disconnect was legitimate; the enter race button disappeared!"

Hey Mac, i just purchased the Mustang and it looks like we're both signed up for the next race. Ive been practicing for about 15 minutes, hope i can keep up lol. Actually i just hope i can keep it on the track for the whole race.

Are you sure it was an unofficial race/ iRating is not in play and SR is .5 in unofficial races.

Honestly whats with people in GT Challenge? Never have I been involved in so many first corner accidents..

^ It looks like I tried to overtake you at first glance, I knew I was to close to you and tried to avoid you.. :p

That's why you want to roll off the throttle before the braking zone when you're behind someone, then you have a little wiggle room to brake less lightly.

I was planning on staying behind him and then attempting the overtake elsewhere.

Alright, I've narrowed it down to either the Star Mazda or the Mustang. Both have good participation, so they're even there. I will be buying 1 car and 2 tracks to get the discount, so that would mean I would be able to run 4 weeks with the Mazda, and a full 8 with the Mustang. Also, i would be able to run in grand-am with the mustang.

To the guys that run the mustang, how is it to drive? I dont want to buy a car if it isn't fun to drive.

That's what I mean. You don't know when the car ahead might brake, and in this case Kevin is new in that car, so he might brake earlier than you planned for. Roll off the throttle before you get to the braking zone. When he brakes, you're going a couple mph slower than usual, so you can brake hard if necessary and not run him over, or if he brakes how you had planned, you're still going a couple mph slower, so a more gentle application of the brakes can let you stay right up on his bumper.

It's a little sluggish, but once you're used to it, it's pretty fun to drive. People race fast and clean for the most part and just about every race I've been in with it was a blast. Even the one above.. :dopey:

I see that happen alot. People push hard to overtake. The guy infront looses the pace becaus he is looking in the mirrors and brakes to soon or to late. If something happens, the guy who wants to overtake can never avoid the first car.
Made the mistake myself, learn from it.

I don't know why but every time I see this commercial I'm always far from the TV but I knew this looked like iRacing. Pause @ 0:19.

Alright, I'm gonna buy the Mustang. Now I need 2 tracks to go with it so I can complete the 8 weeks to get credit. I figure I'll get Watkins Glen, because it is in pretty much every series, but for the second track I'm not sure whether to get Road America or Daytona (For the Road course). Which should I get?

Well it depends really, if you plan on running some ovals you can't go wrong with Daytona, but a few roads series also race on Road America so you can't go wrong there. I'd go with Road America (or both :p ) personally.

did some mustang practice tonight and I begining to love it all over again :D
What's a decent time at laguna seca in the new build?

The faster times in races I've done have been in the 38s I think. I'm doing low to mid 40s during the race and running front of mid pack mostly

like every other series though? I remeber Skip had that a lot.

Anyway, I am not worth of Brands Hatch. Going to skip it. Wasn't good on it in the Skip, not good on the SM either!

Did TT instead, division 2 is so difficult though. Just aiming to be top 10 in it.
