Petit Le Mans Awards :)

^Nice! 👍

I've been away from iRacing since Friday, decided to only go back to it once my wheel stand arrives. Fortunately it's being delivered today. :)

Jav

I seen this movie a few times already, and I wish everyone doing multiclass racing watched it. I actually got spun by a DP on Barber because I was being held up by a Mustang driver. Mustang driver didn't do anything wrong, but the DP driver probably got surprised that I didn't dive the Mustang and waited for the right moment.

Being held up by Mustang drivers is part of driving in Grand Am, but I wished the Mustang driver where a bit more predictable. Because I experience a lot of times Mustang drivers do things like the big NO NO moment in that movie. And I even make my pass way more clearer than sim racing Dan did in that movie.

Anyway good video Jav! 👍

That is the point..

@team will have priority over @drivers

If you don't want to hear communications from other drivers (which I think is a bad decision), you can unscan @drivers by typing @scan drivers

Thanks, I like to have silence during a race with the exception of my spotter, and at the moment I don't have a mic myself. People are usually quite during the race, but then all of a sudden they have to yell something out and its pretty distracting.. To each their own I guess. I like the new spotter feature, adds a whole new element of realism, even if it's only slightly.

Jav posted this earlier, but now its on Youtube in case anyone missed it, its a pretty sweet video.

Jumped into a practice session for the Grand Am series just now, i was the only Mustang though. Needless to say i felt a little outnumbered lol, constantly zoom, zoom, zoom past me. But one guy, and i dont know if anyone knows him, james cather. He just slams into the back of me on purpose and tells me to go find another room that isnt full of DP's. Other DP drivers were telling him to shut up, but he was really being a jerk about it. Anyway it was fun and such a nice break from doing redundant Mazda races over and over again. Ive got some things to learn about sharing the track with those DP's, i never can tell what line they will run. I tried to just stick to my line, but even a pro driver ran through me coming out of a turn.

I am a newbie to Grand Am Really, but I have done multiclass racing in other games/ simulators so all I can really say as a DP driver is for you to hold your line and the DP driver will find a way past. It does help if you give the DP driver an idea of which side you are going to leave some space. In my second race I did find Mustang drivers that decided to slow right down at the end of the start/finish straight, this to me was pretty awkward because quite often they got it wrong and were forced to speed up to get around the corner and out of the way. Best bet there is to hold the race speed get around the corner safely and quickly then think about dealing with the DP driver after the corner.

All the good and fair DP drivers won't make a risky move and risk ruining theirs and the Mustang driers race.

I pick and choose Caddy races , I only do them for fun and only if its at a track that I feel safe and consistent on. In your position , I'd either practice until I felt that doing a race was going to be safe and enjoyable for myself and those around me ..... or forget it. Being open to rookie and upwards , you tend to get all skill levels in one race. Some guys have got it sorted while others struggle and it can inevitably get a bit messy in the first few laps.

Having said that , Mosport and the Caddy is a match made in heaven. Don't miss that week ! 👍

That's my usual MO. I ran about 45 minutes of practice and got my laptime down to ~1 second off the fastest driver and had some great 2-3 lap runs in tight with others. Assuming I'll make a race tonight, I decided to put down a quali lap which went well, but I should have stopped after I set a decent lap rather than run the entire session which included a few offs and spins.
I couldn't help myself ... Laguna has never come up for me in a race yet (Neither has Summit Point :() and the Caddy just sounds awesome compared to the MX5 so I stayed and the end result was a really fun quali session, but it came with a damaged SR.

Same here. I don't use a mic and don't want to talk to anyone while I'm racing. The spotter is good enough and what you say, I'm getting distracted if someone yells in my ear 👎 "Leave me alone, I know what to do" :D

Having week off from work again, thinking I could race a lot, but had an accident Saturday and everytime the FFB cuts in I'm screaming from pain in my shoulder  Better go easy on the shoulder and not race for a week... :(

Yeah my multi class racing experience comes mostly from gran turismo, i know to hold my lines and not try anything funny. I wish i had saved the replay yesterday, the first incident was intentional on part of the DP driver and he came out and said he did it because he was on a fast lap and was sick of dealing with traffic. The 2nd time was going into turn 1 on watkins, i came down to the white rumble strip then back out the way i always do and got nailed coming out of the turn when i tracked out. Plenty of other drivers went around me just fine though, but the cornering speed of the DP is nerve racking because i know im holding them up.

That guy is just stupid and has no business competing in multiclass racing, Kevin you really should've saved the replay and taken a screenshot if he used the text chat. He just doesn't get it, another moron trying to win the practice session instead of learning to deal with traffic in the practice session.

I usually don't protest, but that I would.

I'm the same, in fact I haven't protested anything yet even though some races have been downright silly as contact / blue flags, etc. goes.
In this case it's really the drivers conduct and attitude that needs addressing as he's basically said to you that he essentially owns the road - in practice no less 👎

On a side note, I found a check box that automatically prompts me to save the replay as I exit any session. Quite useful, as I sometimes forget - and it was usually the replay's I need / want to save that were missed in the past :dunce:

Just did a Grand-Am practice session myself in the Mustang, great fun. Had a near miss with a DP twice on the "Nascar Part" of the course. So I said not to worry about me and I would be sticking to my line, I wouldn't cut in front of anyone or make an sudden moves at all, and after that no one came close to hitting me. I have a feeling it would be a good idea for us Mustang drivers to do this prior to a race.. I know I will be. I also find having a list of everyone on my "black box" helps me figure out how close the DP's are closing in.

To save me some time looking this up can you tell me where that checkbox is

As Eric mentioned, It's here in the options screen once you have entered a track:
replayoptions.png

It offers to save everything you are running in too - practice/ TT / quali, etc. A nice option if you have someone in the room that is considerably faster than you and you want to watch the lines that driver ran.
After you select 'Quit' and then confirm that selection the replay pop-up will.... pop-up :)

Anyone else running Grand-Am this week at the Glen? My best time is 1:24.0xx so far with room for improvement.. I saw Kevin hitting 1:23.5xx in practice. I can do low 1:24s as a good race pace I think.

Thanks, I've just been using a baseline setup with just a tweaked front brake bias :p

That set may feel loose on cold tires but once you get the hang of it it rotates beautifully, may benefit from some optimizing as it has very limited track time and developement in it. I'd say play arround with the tire preassures.

Im still playing around with the settings, as im still not sure what some of them do. The biggest difference was made when i put the soft sway bar on the rear instead of leaving it off. I also found that moving the caster forward a few degrees (7.5) gives me the best feel for turn in. Theres so much tuning i want to do, but dont have time for :(

I just ran my first race though and there were only 2 mustangs lol. About half way through the other mustang was 20 seconds ahead of me and it appeared he got into it with a DP and retired. I had no incidents with the DP guys and only 6 off track penalties, never a spin. It was fun, but lonely because i was out there by myself with no one to race. A win is a win though lol

I'll jump in at least one race this week, the DP's have been playing nice in practice, I just think I need a little bit more practice myself.

I jumped in and watch the start, I even drove a lap as a ghost behind you! We have very similar driving I was inside your car a few times, now that guy you raced is stinking fast he steped in a practice session I was on earlier did a few laps and instantly did a low 22!

1:23.616 - 23.134 optimum on this setup:

Tried your set. Went about 2 tenths slower than the one I made. Faster in the first part of the track but slower in the last.

If anyone wanna try mine il upload it.

Oh and this is my first time in the Stang ^^ tried it on the OTM and did'nt like it.
But MAN! With the NTM its awesome!! Gone run the grand am serries this season for sure ^^

Edit: Oh and my best time is 1:23.2xx with 1:22.9xx optimum

Oh cool i didnt know you were there. Yeah he was quick and consistent, i was dropping a few tenths a lap at the start but when the traffic came i just faded. 22's seems within reach if i get more practice and the right settings. This looks like a fun series, but i hope i see more mustangs.

This is a question to all the DP drivers...

Okay so I just joined a race, put my race setup on that I have been testing in practice, started the race found I had really REALLY bad snap oversteer going into the esses, bus stop chicane, and the final 2 corners at WG Cup. The snap oversteer was so bad that by the third lap I was about 15 seconds behind the leader. The setup worked fine in practice and felt nice and smooth.

Has anybody else come across this problem?
Any ideas?

What's your rear toe, I'd look there first, then rear ARB, tire preassures, Rear spring rate compared to front and rear wing setting. I use this setups, best I've found so far! Pretty fast, stable, predictable and easy to drive:

Hmm... I'll take a look at his race setup. Thanks.

What I was trying to get across though is that I used exactly the same setup in practice and the race with the exact amount of fuel etc but it felt much more snappy in the race session. It may have been a fault in the game as I had only just turned it on and configured my wheel.

Had a great race in the Solstice today, managed a 3rd place. Would have maybe grabbed 2nd but an MX-5 broke up our battle. I say to the guy I raced that it was a great race, and it was just a shame that MX-5 broke the battle up, but that happens, the guy that was driving the MX-5 then calls me an idiot and I get told to shut up.. :p I wasn't trying to be an ass, but he took it that way I guess.

I think we can both find time, you've adapted to the Mustang pretty well so far, hoping to get a Grand-Am race in this weekend, my weeks been crazy. Maybe see you there?
