I was pleasantly surprised that there wasn't a huge pileup in turn 1. :)

We had one in turn 2... Not the zig zag turn 2, but the hairpin. Leader spun his tires, collected half the mustangs, so there was a total cluster **** of Jett's, mazdas and mustangs for about 2 laps!

Yeah, I took the outside line to pass two cars and ended up on the correct side to avoid the carnage, came out the other side in 5th packed up with the other 4 cars.

I don't think it works like that sadly:lol:.
I have the strangest luck. One time I showed up at the racetrack on a cold sunny raceday morning and it started snowing as soon as I pulled up
Speaking of coincidence, I went to go flying tonight and we canceled because the we feared the fog would roll in at night and sure enough 5 mins later the fog was so thick I couldn't see a hundred feet in front of me.

Anyway, is the service back yet? it's been about half an hr

Remind me not to race with you! Jk that's some odd luck.

The Roar Before was a weird race, having that many people running essentially the same pace makes some pretty weird stuff happen. We had 2nd through 12th running nose to tail for the first 15 minutes or so, with no real racing possible because it was just so dangerous with so many cars around. I ended up rear ending a guy by complete accident, he had to brake early to avoid someone else that I couldn't see and there was just no chance to do much of anything. The aero damage put me a second a lap off the pace of the main group. A bit of funny stuff through the infield as well with lapped cars trying to sneak down the inside into corners.

I was thinking about having a go at the second race as well, but it wasn't fun enough to be worth getting up at 5 in the morning for. I'd rather practice for the rear Roar.

But that's how racing should be! :)

We should have 10 cars at a time all lapping within a 0.2 seconds of eachother, that's real competition. So you have to carefully plan your passes and really be extra aware of what's going on around you.

That's how oval racing should be. :)

In road racing it's not physically possible to have knowledge of all the things you need to know, you can't just see straight through other cars. In a group of ten, the cars further away can wipe you out just as easily as the cars right beside you, but you can't see them before it's too late. Anything over a group of four starts to become progressively more and more dangerous because the likelihood of something serious happening outside of your field of vision gets higher and higher. There are still things you can do to minimise the risk, but it's just higher in a big group.

This is why lap 1 is so dangerous, because you've got cars so close together that the probability of an incident being essentially unavoidable is much higher.

I can see the appeal of extended racing in a large group, it's certainly just about the most exciting thing possible when it's working cleanly. But frankly I'd rather be racing as part of a smaller group where I have a reasonable chance of using racecraft to mitigate risk to myself. If you're in the middle of a large pack your choices are severely limited by the positions of the people around you, and you have far less opportunity to control your opponent's positioning than in a smaller group. I think that's less pure competition in the sense of a pure test of skill, and more just luck that you're in a position to be able to respond appropriately when one the ten people in the group you're racing with cocks it up.

You guys are killing me (I'm writing this as I'm working a home show trying to get window leads).

Have fun!

Im about to qualify for the ROAR, 212 people lol

edit: couldnt get any clean runs, only managed 206.2

808 people registered for the race, see you guys in an hour!

Possible tire carcass & compound changes to the high level stockcars (A, B, C). [...] The tires [of the truck] will have less grip, this is going to be applied to the other high level stockcars too. However, over-limit tire performance will be much improved, so it should feel more recoverable.

This sounds exactly like the NTM update that made the Mclaren the "safest to drive car ever in simracing", which has been so much praised for its record low number of incidents in the MP4 races. It seems we're only going to get that NTM fix for the oval stock cars for this build. So the F1 championship will be updated while in progress, and we'll have to wait April's build to see if even the V8 and Ford (the two most handful cars), will get as safe as the Mclaren.

Another possibility is that the steering model update (this one expected for most cars next week), will prove to be not so subtle for some cars.

Wow. that sucked. Started off as a great race. I was slowly working my way up from 18 to 12 (I think). Then the mayhem starts. I was following Mac K into turn 3? (the hairpin) when someone decides to not only dive bomb me but also Mac taking him out in the process. I got through unscathed but in the next lap or two someone dive bombed me into turn one and screwed up my steering. I pitted and fell back a bunch but I was still in reach with some of the other mustangs. As I was catching up to one of them, a miata goes off in front of him then comes back on and hits the miata into me. 3minutes of repairs and even that didn't totally fix my car.

^ Who were you in that race? I started 16th, finished 13th. I was having a good race, when someone divebombed me in the bus stop, I dropped a wheel off to far and got a corner cutting black flag, my mistake was waiting until turn 1 to serve it and apparently I gained time by cutting a corner and had to come in for a 15 second penalty.. on my way to the pits someone divebombs me and I get a damaged. I salvaged what I could but I know it could have went a lot better.

Good Luck Kevin! Let us know how you did!!

Wound up in the 5th split and qualified 7th. Stayed clean and avoided some early accidents and was sitting in 3rd after lap 6. Then the leader got taken out by an MX5 and i moved into 2nd and was cruising until i made a mistake of getting on the gas too early and spun so i went back to 6th. Then i just hung in there until about lap 20 and had 3rd and was pacing 2nd place (Thomas Lewandowski, the iracing pro nascar driver). Then it happened... a badly beaten up MX5 was exiting the pits as i was approaching turn 1.

After that i was about 3-4 seconds off the pace because the car just wouldnt turn right. I got passed by 3 more Mustangs in the closing laps and finished 6th :( Should have been a top 3, but oh well. I did have the 2nd fastest time in the race though.

Sometimes I have to wonder how some people have difficulty gaining SR. Two accidents at the roar and a few 1x at the bus stop and I still gained some.

It is not always that way. In your case, it only means that your oldest recorded turns in your SR history were even worst than "two accidents at the roar and a few 1x".

Man I hate crap like that! He was obviously out of it and had no reason to be racing out of the pits like that. Some people are just stupid.
