As I was checking the link the site went down again when I switched between pages

Who has that sneeze power again??

That sucks. Maybe the iRacing Sever hamster died and they are auditioning for a replacement?

I hope the rest of the week is better. I might not race tomorrow even though I have the day off. I rather play other games I know will work as long as my hard drive is working.

You guys trust the site enough to log on and race? I'm debating on whether or not to sneak a race in tonight, but if it's been so wonky maybe I'll wait a day or two.

Any recommendations?

Strictly practice for me. I'll be looking for a hosted session should I feel like racing.

^ Good point. Anyone interested in maybe doing a hosted race tonight? May be the safest way to preserve iRating and sanity. :)

Just tried my first truck race ever today after taking a few months off of oval racing. The few laps we ran that were not under caution were pretty intense, but they were far and few between. It seemed like everytime we got up to speed and started making passes someone did something stupid. I was really hoping the jump from D to C class would improve the oval racing. I don't know how you guys can stand the mistakes people make time and time again. I'm gonna give it a few more races, but if there are always 5 or 6 cautions a race i don't know if I'll be able to take it.

the trick is coming in the top places, getting your irating up, and waiting for splits. the higher splits the less stupid mistakes. i'm around 2000+ and i normally always have great races.

I'll just try and race clean for awhile and avoid wrecks and hopefully it will go up. I'm only around 1100 now. the SOF was I think 900 or so. That was the lowest SOF I think i have ever seen on iracing :)

What is the max size of field in the truck races?

43 I presume

The is a thread about it in the NTM Forum, most drivers think it is better but still not good enough, especially at low speeds although everyone agrees Sims in general are poor at low speed situations.

I can't remember which sims in the past didn't suffer the complaint at all, but do remember a number that didn't. RBR comes to mind. Remember the driving school autocross lessons. You ran the car around on a parking lot in some of them, and never once did you get the impression the tire model was f'ed.

Probably the hardest thing I know of in sim racing would be driving side by side in the iRacing V8SC around the back hairpin at Zand at 38mph or the Corkscrew Laguna. Even allowing for the rear axle.

Strange that there are low speed issues with the NTM. They are typical of pacejka models, where there is a division by zero when speed approaches zero. But NTM was supposed to be somewhat "post-pacejka" and behaving more like a "brush model".

Did Dave or others at iR ever said anything on low speed and NTM? Did they say if NMT5 will, at least partially, address low speed issues? Did they al least detect what the problem is and what will be needed to fix it?

Had my first NASCAR race in the carburettor cup last night, good field of 23 drivers, so much fun, started 21st and finished 5th so happy race for me. Gonna race a few more there I think.

i have such a love hate relationship with the carburetor cup. it either ends quick or i make it all the way. i wish they would make the race longer or shorter by 5 laps. 15 people still treat a 15 lap race like its 10.

Any word on if they'll be bringing back the Sebring 120 minutes World Tour event or are they sticking to their current crappy schedule?

Down again for maintenance. I hope they get this sorted out soon. I have a small fortune in content I've purchased that can't be used. They really need to setup an offline mode of some sort to at least run test sessions with when this happens.

Hopefully they are working on an offline mode that connects to a simple authentication server just to verify that you aren't running a hacked version. But yeah, they were talking in a recent update about being able to drive with/against ghost cars that you saved from a replay. Hopefully that happens soon.

Emergency maintenance
Rolling back some changes
Should be back in 1 hour

So much for the final shot this long weekend. I was joining a practice session and wham!

That needs to take priority over anything else they are doing. Stop with the tracks, cars, NTM,etc. There are people who have close to $1000 invested in just this software, and that's without all the hardware bought just for iRacing. There needs to be a way to use it so that you are not just screwed once the service goes down.

I've got over $400 in just the game and it's really annoying when it goes down. I know people say it's just a game, go find something else to do, but iRacing is not your average game. There's way to much money invested in it to have it going down as often as it has been the last few months and not be able to use it at all when it does have a problem.

I hate when that comes up. Sure it's a game, but it's setup in a way that often requires following / altering schedules in order to compete. For the most part I 'schedule' some race time when the new week is released and I know what car / track I want to drive.
I also play hockey 2-3 times a week and that requires similar scheduling, with 1 huge difference - the rink will be there and functional when I show up.
Both are paid for, and both are hobbies (no shot at pro hockey  ) so I fail to see the difference as both are scheduled events in my life. If I miss a hockey game for whatever reason I'm not a happy guy - same goes for races.

I just finished my street stock race to see "Down for Maintenance". Hopefully this helps with the unstable website this past weekend. It's only going to get worse for the upcoming weekend since it is the Daytona 500. Speaking of the Daytona 500, if the number of people who did it last year show up for the Saturday race this year, expect the site to go down. Since I'm not racing i'm trying to make sure I'm doing something else when the race starts.

EDIT: It's back up. Daytona 500 practice is open for those that want to race it.

Well, remember, the people that do things like infrastructure (the people who would develop an offline version) are not the same people who develop cars and work on the tire model. So stopping work on cars, tracks, and the NTM wouldn't get the offline version done any faster. A 3D modeler likely knows nothing about the programming required for an offline version.

Anyone here running the Daytona 500 this weekend? Should be a blast, 2nd race is well timed for GMT (7pm).

I know, I'm just saying priority #1 should be to get a working offline mode going. I don't care about all the improvements or additions they are adding to the game if it's going to be broke as often as it is and we can't even practice while it's down. Make it known that you are working on it, and do your best to get it out.

That is... if the service can handle it haha

Fingers crossed. I reckon that's partly why it's been split across 2 separate days. In the hope of easing some pressure. That Saturday run is still going to be popular though.
