man L49 with TH8 shifter must be one of the most pleasant sim experienced one can have.
Even spinning is a pleasure when u can reverse like Vin Diesel(knowing Chapman i imagine reversing in an actual L49 is a miserable business)

Yea the difference is that Donington is awesome, and Cota is...(looking for something good to say)...new :)

I do agree that the Ring will be popular on the hosted side (didn't think of that cos I very rarely get a chance to do hosted sessions), but do see trouble in any official sessions.

To be fair, COTA actually looked pretty cool when watching it on TV. At least grading on the Hermann Tilke scale. But when you actually step into the car and race on it though, you realize it's another garbage track that's been designed around the limitations of modern F1 (the limitations being that flowing tracks would be destroyed by the cars and they'd never lift off their throttle). The Ring is timeless and we've all raced it enough to see that it holds up as a driver.

I like COTA. Good challenge and very technical

I'll agree that Cota is a very technical track, but I feel it lacks some of the exciting corners that a lot of the classic european tracks have, the kind of corner where you hold your breath going into it, your heart is in your mouth type of corner, I guess the prime example is Eau Rouge at Spa, another one of my personal favorite corners is turn 6 (Scheivlak) at Zandvoort, it's a very fast entry and a fast corner that falls down hill.
For me every track needs at least one of those hold your breath type corners for me to really fall for a track.

Well Cota is a just a terrible copy/paste job, and there is no risk in the corners since they have airport runways for runoff.

That's what I don't like about it. There's no punishment or risk involved. If you push too hard, you have a half mile of runoff. When someone's throttle sticks on the runway drs straight, they're just gonna hit the wall that much harder with the extra room

Soon the FIA will mandate that walls/tire barriers have a 100ft layer of bubble wrap and cars are limited to 50mph.

Anyone running the Star Mazda this week? Everyone seems to just crash into T1. I went from 11th to 3rd in one corner.

As a driver who has driven at 3 current standard FIA tracks that weren't designed by Tilke and have driven at 3 1/2 tracks that were designed by him. I can tell you that not having many runoffs at the three tracks not designed by Tilke were a lot more fun, and subsequently my results were better at those 3 tracks. Why you might ask? When you have massive runoffs, most drivers see it as a "Get out of jail free" ticket (With the gravel traps being the jail). You can push as hard as you want and only lose 1-3 seconds on track. And most will do so. Whereas tracks that do not have this luxury are a lot more cut throat. You make one mistake and you've lost 15 seconds or you have to retire. The mindset you have to use at each track is different. At a track with the massive runoffs you can push as hard as possible and know that there is some help, whereas at tracks that don't have the runoffs you find yourself holding back a bit from the corners maximum potential.

Ever since karting I've always been a driver that hates making mistakes. I've come back from winning national karting events upset because I missed an apex by an inch or two. You catch my drift. This caused me to begin driving at a pace about 2 or 3% below the theoretical best lap just to insure that I have no dramas or slight mistakes. I figure that 2 seconds lost over a race is less than the 10+ that you could lose from an off. In cars, at tracks with massive runoffs, I am fast but, not as fast as I should be because I still have that 2 to 3% cushion that I allow, whereas other drivers push at 100% every lap and even if they have a few offs, they won't lose too much time from it. Come tracks without the runoffs, my 2 or 3% cushion tends to give me better results as I'm used to driving at this kind of pace on a regular basis. Whereas those that don't either end of crashing or try to slow the pace down and don't have a good sense of what is too little or too far.

This kind of went way off topic but, hopefully you guys catch my drift about what the runoffs do mentally.

Well just finished my first Oval race (3rd race all together) and had great fun. Qualified 4th, poor start put me down to 6th I think but got back upto 4th and the 4 of us battling for first for about half the race, finishing 4th. Great fun and no contact with anyone yay!

Street stocks are one of the most fun cars on iRacing. They are probably my favorite car, along with the Chevy SS Gen-6.

Had a lot of fun in the NiS at Watkins Glen. Didn't qualify so I started in the pits because I was expecting mass chaos in the esses. Well that didn't happen, so I was in 30th. Worked my way up all the way up to finish 5th in 45 laps :)

So did I! We were in the same spit ( 4 ), I was the class D on the pole :)

I was looking for a race and saw the race about 2 hours before Q. Got about an hour and a half of practice. Wish I had a better setup than the base tune ( I did add 2% tape ). I think I had pace for a win for about 8 laps. Then my tires would fall off. Then I got sloppy and crashed ( and botched my pit stop ) myself to 3rd.

This car is fun to drive now. Not sure what update fixed it but WOW. You can actually catch a slide in it now and it feels "heavy" with rubber tires instead of just heavy understeer on plastic tires.

Very clean race from what I saw, didn't expect much from split 4.

Nice! I had about 10 laps of practice with pretty much the baseline tune. I drove like my grandma for the first 10 laps still learning how hard I could push. The car was a lot of fun to drive. It seemed like I was wrestling a bear for 45 laps with how slippery the weather made the track. My car wasn't quick on 1 lap pace, but it was really consistent throughout the run. I knew I wasn't going to win by starting in the pits, but I knew that I wouldn't be in a huge pileup on the opening lap. Most guys were courteous letting me through too. I was up to 8th before the pit stop, and was able to run down and pass a few more the second run.

Just got my first ever 2nd!!!!!! Im so happy lol. Not bad for a lad thats only joined a few days ago for the first time!!! 2nd.jpg

Nice! You were really fast. I couldn't have touched your pace. Car is a blast. I don't get why there aren't more road races on the NASCAR calendar because they're so much fun

Agree, the b-car is also so much fun on road courses.

Finally hit 3000 iRating Road 👍

Great Job. Just hit 3000 oval myself the other day with my good NiS finish. Hoping to hit 3000 road soon too, i'm sitting at 2872 so acouple good road finishes should see me through. Hitting 3000 Ir on both sides & maintaining it is my goal for the season.

Mine seems to always go up, but I have these times lol

My goal is just above 3000. 3500 oval maybe so I can join a team with my friends
Same with my SR lol, my Irating chart though shows a very slow but steady progression, ultimate goal is to get 4000 Road because im pretty sure thats where my talent runs out lol.

So SRF is going from Donington this week to COTA West next week. What a change. Donington is really nice to drive, but racing has been below average, with very few places to attempt a safe pass and for lapped cars to let leaders by. COTA on the other hand is terrible to drive, it's like a 1x minefield w/o any rhythm to it and lots of very late apex corners requiring dragging throttle into every corner; and then there's a turn where you get a shortcut penalty w/o getting even a 1x, ridiculous. The quality of racing better be bloody freaking great, otherwise I'm gonna just do a race for participation credits and spend the week elsewhere.
