Is anyone else disappointed with GT5?

How can you possibly have these opinions when you didn't even buy the game?

Give it a try. If you focused on the negative opinion of internet forums, you'd never do anything in life.

No, but he´s right. I haven´t bought the game either, simply because of what I´ve been reading about it so far. I am considering buying it, but only for photomode, wich seems to be brilliant. Just about the only thing that has got me excited about GT5 so far.

It´s not about what peaple think in the forums though, he may have a different reason, but mine is financial. If I´m going to spend $100 on a something that is purely for entertainment, I really want it to be entertaining, not frustrating or boring or dissapointing. Thus, you read what people who actually have played the game thinks about it. If you read enough reviews, you can make a fairly decent assumption IMO.

Why would you be spending $100? It's cheaper than that isn't it?

The reviews, in general, are much more positive than the '6 years for this?' threads you get on this forum....you seem to be selectively focusing on the negative comments - have you considered the large amount of positive as well?

Seems a little strange to buy it only for photomode if you ask me - whatever floats your boat though...it is impressive.

...but it's not worth £250.

That's the crux of the matter. I bought a PS3 just to play GT5. I got a reasonable price but it was still £270 bundled with the Collectors Edition.

I got the whole shebang set up and running and was just starting to persuade myself that it was worth the expense when my G25 burnt out ... coincidence after a couple of years working fine hooked up to my PS2? So, if I want to have a hope of getting any good with this I either have to get another G25, with prices seemingly in the mid £200's for a second hand one, or get a G27 for knocking on for £300!

Now I have to think about buying a HD TV so that it doesn't just look like weird PS2 graphics - so, tack on about another £250.

It's just a driving game ... and not a terribly great one despite the long wait for that kind of money. For all those defending it, the game IS a disappointment. PD need to come up with some awfully good (and free) DLC if they want to win back a place in my good books.

There are some very disappointing things about GT5, mostly concerning the offline game, however, my experience with it online (with racing friends) has been very good, & combined with first rate physics makes it an excellent (though far from perfect) game.

I can't believe it, but I'm actually sick of GT5 already. I played GT4 for a long time before I actually started playing something else.

Major gripes:
Sound... All the cars sound the same.
Far too many Skylines.
No Audi RS4?!!! WTF!
Limited BMW M3's.
No 6 series BMW.
Sound
Experience... seriously, is this an RPG?
B-Spec is bad.
Same tracks over and over
The Formula GT car is like catching a sight of Bigfoot
Overall polish of the game
Adding cars from GT4 = bad idea
Useless cars that no one cares about or even heard of
Paint... At least let us preview the car painted before we lose a color!
Game freeze
An endurance race with nothing but Mazda Miata's?!!! LMAO
Nascar is massive waste
Releasing a game that is nothing more than a GT4 update
Releasing a game that isn't finished
Patching multiplayer before anything else
Not being able to sell cars

What I like:
The Audi R8
The 60's race cars
Nurburgring... Greatest course on the planet.
Karts, but need more tracks...
Being able to trade with other people.

Dunno... The game will sell a ton of copies and get great reviews, but as it stands right now, I feel ripped off and would give it a 6 out of 10 simply because it feels like it's missing a lot.

I'll be honest, I regret choosing to buy a PS3 for GT5 rather than buying an Xbox 360 for Forza 3.

GT5 just isn't as good an all rounder.

The grind is ridiculous. This is coming from someone that played Asian MMO's, I can handle massive grind, it just doesn't work or have any place in a driving game. The fact that it's a completely artificial time sink designed to halt your progress makes it even worse. It's completely avoidable, it doesn't need to exist within the game, levels ultimately have no bearing on anything, they don't represent skill or ability, they solely represent whoever sat there grinding away the longest.

Little things niggle me about GT5 and I just can't get over them.

The lack of a back up option on the save is ridiculous, considering you may be spending several hundred hours to get anywhere near completing the game. How they can justify preventing you from backing it up is beyond me and it shows a complete lack of common sense.

The way that the paints are all one use only and you may have to play for ten hours just to get more than one of a specific colour. To add salt into the wound, you can't preview what that colour will look like at all, which means your first use of the paint better be perfect as it's gone forever the moment you try it out. This is beyond ludicrous and does nothing other than punish the player for no good reason. It's terrible game design and really needs changing in a patch.

Wheel customisation is also severely lacking in this game. No longer can you choose from an array of different manufacturers, you now have to endure yet another artificial and unnecessary limitation which sees you stuck with a pre-selected group of wheels per car. You can't change wheel sizes, the weight of the wheels have no effect on the car and you have to use yet another of your precious and severely limited paints to paint the wheels (without a preview of course). Finally, as we have all talked about already, no wheel changes on standard cars whatsoever.

Yes Polyphony, rare paints and colour combinations on cars IS cool, it is fun and rewarding to have a car customised in a unique way in which others don't. However, if you want to have something like that in your game, go and copy Forza's livery system, let us have full customisation of our cars and give us unique paints which we can earn and add into our colour palette for the livery editor.

It's like they want to give us customisation and enjoy rare cars, but in the most restrictive and backwards way possible. Yes, you can customise cars, but only the handful we say you can and only in the exact ways we specify. If you want to have your wheels the same colour as your bright orange bodywork then you better get grinding and hope you find that paint again (unless you can buy the 'paint' (car) from the dealerships/used car market).

The online aspects of the game are also severely incomplete and lacking in real quality, but at least PD seem to be patching and working on that.

These aren't all the problems with the game, but they really bother me and certainly make the game far worse than it should be.

Halve the XP per level requirement, double the money earned (some events need a far larger increase), increase the duration cars remain in the used car market, let us at least test the paints before we use them up, let us back up our crucial and important saves and give us an awesome online world with which to play in.

Do those things and you might just save this game PD.

If you compare GT5 vs. other racing titles currently available on the PS3 platform it is a good game and not disappointing.

If you compare GT5 vs. 5+ years of anticipation and everyone's expectations of what the game would be it is a disappointment.

I believe that I will get my money's worth out of this game, however as it stands now it is not the be all end all of PS3 racing games that will permanently shelve all my other racing titles nor keep me fully engaged as to deter me from purchasing other titles in the same genre next year.

For me if there is an area of disappointment it is that the game is simply an unfinished product. My hope is that the missing elements (such as leaderboards and a lot of other on-line functionality) were there but removed at the last minute as they still needed some tweaking but could not be ready for the ship date. If so we should see these in short order and it will be this and other updates that will eventually finish the game and make it more complete.

On the other hand if they are just starting to work on these features I do think the whole line of questioning about what they have been working on for so long at great cost is pretty valid.

I am not disappointed in it because it took 5 years and this is what we have, I'd be disappointed in it even if it took a year to make because the unnecessary 'features' which severely hinder you as a player are unacceptable and silly.

The more i play it the more dissapointed i am......
-few events.
-shadows and smoke ....DISSASTER !!!
-poor tunning
-Cannot change gear rations on Full R. trannys' ( possible in" GT1, GT2, GT3, GT4 and Prologue )....

I am quitting this game, it simply is not fun to have to continually race the same races to get up to the next level. GT5 is a massive failure in my opinion. Its like a hot girl, sure the game looks good but has no substance. Forza may not look as good but it in my opinion is a far better game.

-NASCAR sucks, they dont go anywhere near 205 let alone 240 at Daytona. Instead of NASCAR they should have paid more attention to actual sports car racing. For example, class racing, P1, P2, GT2, GTC etc etc etc.
-Just do away with all oval tracks, Rovals and ovals suck, that is why there is NO ONE at the 24 hours of daytona and hundreds of thousands at Sebring and Le Mans.
-Customization is crap, you cant even change the gearing?
-I know i said this, Corvettes sound like blenders.
- 1000 cars but you cant buy 800+ of them anytime you want. Ive been waiting for a DTM car for almost a week now.
-the grind, the grind the grind. This is not call of duty. That was actually fun. There is nothing fun about doing the exact same races over and over again. The special rounds only get you so much.
-That cape ring, i would rather have had a track like Road America, Spa, Sebring.
- The same complaint i have about Forza, 1 track, 5 different versions of that 1 track, company claims it now has 6 tracks, so annoying.
-B Spec, should be like Forza where you can "hire a driver", just not have to play the same races, just longer giving the most asinine of inputs.
- I like the idea of the flashing the headlights but WHY oh WHY do we need horns.

GT5 is the reason why I bought a PS3... and overall after just 3 weeks of play...I have to say is dissapointing...

The game is short, the level thing makes it repetitive, prize cars are lame (90% of them are fail), we can't sell high prized cars, no rims, bad shadows, very few circuits, GT4 cars are the 80% of the total in the game, not many new cars, ultra expensive cars, Licenses don't count for nothing, B-Spec is fail...

After so many years, millions of dollars invested, and delay after delay after delay... I expected nothing more than pure excellence, lots of new cars, lots of races, lots of events, a good challenge off and online, elite graphics... and so on... but in the end all we got was a GT4 redo with 200+ cars, slightly improved graphics and less circuits...

Still, the game is good, addictive and fun, and I'll continue to play it for the love of cars... but overall... I feel betrayed... PD and Kaz sold us the idea that GT5 would be the racing game ever, perfect on all senses... but guess what??? ...It is not... at least not for me...

In before the "You're all playing it wrong" and "Stop the whining already!" comments.

I've found B-Spec to be more enjoying, which says a whole hell of a lot...I'm not even really playing the damn game. There's far too much wrong and/or broken within the game for it to be fixed with patches. Unless they do an entire overhaul through DLC...which, let's be honest, they won't. Seems no GT game will ever outdo 2 (and to a lesser extent, 3) for me.

Even if he does he knows we are a minority. Most gamers will play a week or two then play something else.

GTP users are, for the most part, the biggest bunch of crybabies this side of a hospital birthing ward. Reading some of the comments on this forum you'd think the game got a 2/10 or something. Sorry it doesn't magically take 20lbs off your gut, hand out free BJs, or otherwise be alpha and omega of console sim racing.

People built this game up to epic proportions. Way beyond what was ever realistically possible given the limitations of the PS3. Will there be gamers that pick it up and put it down in a week? Sure. However I think the vast majority will continue to play this game for quite awhile and enjoy it. Kaz knows this, hence the lack of panic on Sony or PD's part.

The game sold well, got pretty good ratings and most of the more serious issues will / have been addressed by updates. That's par for the course these days when it comes to most video games. Besides the BS Sony "making it perfect" propaganda, who honestly thought it was going to be any different?

What annoys me is waiting and waiting for classic cars to come up in used car salesroom. there should be a dealer that deals with them.

Yeah... Who is the Genius that decided... randomly adding a few cars (6-12) every race was a good idea! And why repeat cars that I own... and so many below level 10!

I hope they fix this... just offer a used area and allow me to select a level! It may be they wanted us to take 6-8 years to really get all the cars so the next version will be out as.... GT6 Prologue!

Hi all.

I haven't gotten the game either though I've really wanted to. Tried it out yesterday (finally) at a friend's place with a DFGT wheel and it was awesome! I was so convinced I was going to buy the game+wheel even though my budget's pretty tight.

Then I read a couple posts on these forums and I'm having doubts again. Not trying to bash the forum or anything anyone's saying, it's just very difficult to make a decision where I would have to spend $180++ (game & wheel) on something I might not like in the end. I've rented it via a 10-day gamefly free trial, though, to make a more informed decision.

From what I've read - the grind after lvl 23 or something is terrible? Anybody know if they plan on fixing that?

Well I concur with everything stated before about this game. I have had a hard time choosing between a 6 or an 8 for what ill give it in my meta critic review.

Good things about the game.

- physics first and foremost are awesome, the are spoton and give me a huge smile every time I drive in the game.
- the sheer amont of 60s cars (none of which I own yet).
- the real world tracks minus the ovals!

Bad things about the game.

- the flipping menu system is terrible!
- small amount of cars to start with in arcade!
- you have to unlock the nord!
- the got damn grind, it is terrible, no other way to put it.
- the ai is terrible, drive like crap!
- rubber banding ai, gives you no real feel of what your skill really is.
- the small amount of real world tracks.
- nascar, it sucks and with only 16 cars is pointless!
- rally, why even attempt that half ass attempt!
- the artificial car list boost with the ps2 cars, worthless addition!

Overall the game lacks any focus or polish but just doing time trials on real tracks is pricless!

the only thing thats missing that i really wanted is my favourite track which is Twin Ring Motegi, especially because i live here in japan :( :( :( ..PLEASE MR KAZ, put in Twin Ring Motegi !!!!!!!!!!

You seem to have cut and pasted opinions from several other posters. We have heard the "6 years for this?" line so many times it is now a cliche. It wouldn't be so bad if it was even a remotely valid question.

No I haven't. I typed it all myself.

Why would I cut and paste? That would be ridiculous!

Can your read?? this is the dissapointment thread! this is where you go to share your dissapointments for the game and read other peoples. not come in and call everyone a bunch of babies for sayin why they dont like it anymore, seriously mate if you just wanna call people names take your keyboard warrior skills somewhere else.

This game is like having the hottest gf in the world and not being able to touch her cause she's as frigid like the northpole

I'm on level 20 now for A-spec and I'm bored senseless..
Most races I do with a R33 GT-R V-Spec and I have a garage full of Nissan cars..there's just no challange to it for me cause the game doesn't have a balance of power. I've played GT5 Prologue and loved the balance of power there..what that game needed was a qualification so I didn't need to pass all the other cars. But in GT5 there's still no quali and no balance of power anymore..

This is the best GT game in the series graphics wise, but it also has the worst gameplay I've ever seen :dunce:

+1 👍

The lack of events, The loading logo appears every time when you navigate through the menu. This game just bring me that incomplete feeling when I play it. Click on GT life..loading...Click on Dealers....loading... AND the car delivery:ouch:, The presentation of this game is just bad. IT likes you spend more time looking at the loading screen than racing.

I get the feeling that the team over at PD is a bit arrogant. It seems like they think that the got everything right on the first try and just keep adding to the game versus actually evolving the game (the amazing physics excluded from this statement!). I'm not saying that there haven't been advancements, but so many things are the same and are just automatically assumed that they were perfect the first time.

I mean hell, even companies like Chrysler finally know enough that their interiors aren't up to snuff compared to the rest of the world and they're finally doing something about it. I'm not sure PD got the same memo in their part of the market. Hopefully posts like this will serve that purpose.
