Is anyone else disappointed with GT5?

Got GT5 yesterday and I must admit that I'm not disappointed. It's not really what I expected but so far so good. :)

If there was a math calculation of finding the average opinion (by adding all opinions and dividing by sum) there would be this:The game is not what we expected to be-still very good though.I hate some useless characteristics (standard cars,painting,wheels,b-spec,levels,car delivery etc etc) there are so many great cars and tracks and till i have access to them i will have to put aside my life.Anyway, some day i will-probably the point is to have us hooked on for another MASS delay of gt6!

Till then,continue playing ;)

PS:This is the only game i have in ps3 so far and gt4 was the only i had in ps2.

In my opinion, the only ones with legitimate complaints are those who played for an hour or so and put it on the shelf. If you put more than 10 hours into this game then you probably are going to put even more hours into it. That is my definition of a successful buy when it comes to video games. I can't think of any game that I put this much time into. Angry Birds on my iPhone is a good game but I finished it in a month of playing casually. I can't say that for GT5. I'm going to have thousands of hours invested in this game when I'm done.

I've gone out an bought a PS3 just to play the game, so I'm not going to not play the game, but it is so disappointing on many levels. I'm enjoying it, but not as much as I did with the previous games, and after waiting so long, with this level of technology (the PS3), it should have been so much much better.

The previous GT games had me playing for about 6 months+ solid, and for the most part it was fun and challenging, but I seem to be completing the levels quicker, though having to repeat so many of the same relatively few tracks over and over is not as enjoyable, especially with the not so great AI.

This site is obviously a site for fans of the game, which I consider myself to be, but you have to be grown up enough to accept criticism of the game and not shoot people down out of hand if you don't accept, or agree with peoples comments.

And before anyone says well don't play it then and stop moaning, well I'm glad you're enjoying it, and it is everything you wanted, but if you don't point out the flaws, and voice your concerns and disappointments, then things will not improve.

If you look at my previous posts, you'll see while people was nagging about this game before it came out, i defended it. I am currently level 21. Things have now changed.

This is probably the biggest disappointment of the last 5 years for me. This game is not anywhere near even being a good game, it's laughably disappointing. Sure the cars look nice to take photos of in the photo mode but that's basically I do because every other feature of this game is incomplete.

Racing- You can tune your car to any amount of power and win the race regardless of your skill level. This makes the game unchallenging and quite boring.
There is also no feeling of motivation to keep moving forward in this game, i collected money and bought every car i wanted...now what? Race a entire series only to win a ****** 1980s standard car as a prize?

Rain- What the hell. You can't see outside your car, the wipers do nothing. The jaggy water coming out of the rear end of your car is not pretty and the rain looks like falling pixels. lots of screen tearing too with the wiper blades.

Night- Headlights are useless unless you have the high beam up.

Sound- I don't know why, but i get a headache from the sound the cars make. when switching to 3rd person view the cars always make a tornado or jet engine sound for like 8s and then it goes back to normal. ive tried different speakers too.

And why cant you choose Night time or day time separately in the arcade race menu? what about rolling starts/standing starts? position on the grid? Why is it that if you want night racing you have to choose "Time change" only to get 20s of night racing in the beginning of the race and the rest of it being day time? Why is it we cant have Time change in Nurburgring without having weather change. Am i missing something?

Changing cars - You have to go through a menu, choose your car, see it rotate in 3D, press "Change car" and you hear the engine noise and THEN you have to press back. This could be a two click process. It's very frustrating. Why is there no option to use your car in arcade mode without the modifications? It's very frustrating.

Paint- Why must we collect paint? That's the stupidest thing ive ever heard, who ever i tell it to laughs out loud. Why can't we see a preview of our car with the paint on it instead of that thing that rotates beside the car and changes color? This is a serious and hilarious design flaw.

Don't get me started on the leveling system.

These are just my complaints from a 20min session of the game a couple minutes ago. There are much more.

I bought the Collector's edition of this game, i would have got the signature edition if it was available in this country. I talked about this game for months with my friends about how great it would be. How they're not just putting a game out there to make money but the developer is creating this game like it's their soul for the whole world to see. how they've been working on it for 6 years with a budget of 90 million dollars. how the developers basically sleep in the studio...none of this matters anymore, they pumped out a forgettable game with many many flaws.

The facts are:

They advertise the game with 1000 cars - Don't mention 200 premium and the average customer will not go on their official website

They advertise the game with weather change and night- but this is only available on some tracks and it is very limited.

They showed us videos of the game with dirt collecting on the Mclaren yet in the actual game there is very VERY little dirt accumulation.

and much more.

They sneakingly advertised the game so that it's not false advertising because technically these things are true, to make money.

Kaz/sony/PD hyped this game to death with 20 trailers and no information for months so that he and sony could make a profit.
I cannot imagine Kaz going through his own game and not noticing these stupid flaws and countless limitations that i have discussed. Things that could have easily been fixed. I know 6 years includes prologue and GTPSP but they should have just worked on THIS GAME from the beginning.

I don't know what to think, i feel cheated and heartbroken honestly. This game meant a lot to me. I bought a Ps3 2 years ago just for this game. The only games ive had for it in that time have been COD4 and Uncharted 2. I saved up 200 bucks for a DFGT but in the end didn't get it and bought new earbuds instead, it's simply not worth it to me anymore.

I feel like Prologue was better than the real GT5. I played it much longer and didn't get bored and sick of it. Maybe it's because of the points system that limited how powerful your car should be to enter a race or maybe it was something else. maybe because the menu music wasn't so bad, the tuning parts menu music sounds like It's from a porno.

Mods, if you think this thread is unnecessary, close it. I just had to post how I felt about this.

Go online. The offline portion of the game is near worthless. I took a beat up Supra (no GT Auto) into the Super GT, and I still struggled to find competition from the AI [the one AI, since the other 10 of them are just there for scenery as they cruise around under the speed limit]. If you really just want to race, go online.

I only glanced over everything else, but your complaints seemed reasonable. PD had a long time to make a good game, but it seems they squandered it. Hopefully, they will learn from their errors.

false.

go to garage
move the curser to the car you want.
press triangle.
select "Change Car".

No i mean when you're choosing a race and you have to change a car because the current car your driving is not suitable for that race. You have to click like 6 times to finally change your car where as it could be a simple 2 click process.

no.
you still move your curser to the car, hit triangle, then select "Change Car".

I dont get it.
For my part, when I doesnt like a game, I DONT PLAY IT!!!
I do not start any thread on a dedicated forum about that particular game stating that I dont like the game and all the facts I do dislike about it.
Seriously people, stop making thread about GT5 and how you hate it so much, we, GT5 player, dont give a S* about it

It's torturing me. I feel like I am dedicated to play it because i waited so long and i was so hyped about it. But when I do play it i can't stand it for more than an hour. :ouch:

Then, why not sell your PS3 and GT5 on ebay, and buy an x360 with Forza with that money?
Then you'll be able to cry about whatever you dislike in Forza in a Forza dedicated forum :dopey:

I don't share any of your sentiments. This is the most addicting game I've played in well over a year, and the best racing game I've played.

Sorry it didn't work out for you.

Why don't we open a section for disappointed user reviews?

GT5 is without question the best looking racing game on any console. Yet, still people manage to find visual details to nitpick. That's nuts.

Menus? Sounds giving you headaches? Seriously?

I agree that the regular events are not challenging because the AI is not sophisticated and you can just overpower them. But are the Special Events and License test also not challenging? I think not.

What about the seasonal events? Very challenging for me.

What about racing online? In 2011 racing games are really all about racing online. In iRacing there is no single player game. There is no single player game in Live for Speed. People don't buy Call of Duty or Battlefield Bad Company for the single player game.

This is not GT4. You can race online against real people.

I'm currently A-Spec level 22 and B-Spec level 14

Still loving this game after a month's playing time... taking my time in this game and trying to collect as many as my favourite cars as my credits allow.

As for the events (Seasonal included) I have a method of trying a particular car in stock form and then working out how to improve if I don't win. Doing a race with an obviously overpowered car for me is boring. I also do not wish to finish this game as soon as possible... GT6 will obviously be some way off.

I will admit that I have yet to reach the stage of having to 'grind' where I have seen so many people here complain about. That said, if I get to the stage where it does become a bit samey in order to build xp/credits then I'll take a break... I have plenty of other PS3 games to keep me occupied.

For sure, this game has it's what I call 'quirks' but it is still the Gran Turismo that I come to know and love and it would be nice to see a bit more positivity on here.

The OP has some good points.

I love playing GT5. It's does an excellent job as a simulator, but as a game, there are things that need serious adjusting. Thankfully, they are fixing things that many people are having problems with as we saw with the 1.05 patch. So there's still hope.

Sorry don't agree at all with this statement. These guys are abviously going to advertise this game as the best of it's genre... it's called marketing. You'll find that happens with all major games across each platform.

It is the gaming press (and some non-gaming press) IMO that over-hyped the game prior to release which has lead some people purchasing this game expecting a bit too much from it.

Yeah! No one deserves to be disappointed in the fifth entry of a popular franchise that was hyped and worked on for years, even if they were always a fan of the franchise in the past! Forums aren't for discussion, they're for the expression of completely unanimous opinions only! It's really, really hard to ignore a forum thread you disagree with, but extremely simple to quietly swallow the fact that you spent years waiting for a game that didn't turn out as well as you had hoped, and keep your opinion to yourself for no reason but that it offends the sensibilities of a few people on the internet!

Welcome to my world, February 2005.

- People bitching cause the game was released incomplete (They have been updating/patching?). I'm sure if they decided to wait even longer to release the game, there would be just as much bitching about it taking longer to be released.

- Nobody told you to tune your car till it can easily overpower other cars in the race.

- Rain isn't much of a problem for me. I don't use the interior view.

- Night time is a bit dark. But hey.. it's night time. IRL it's the same.

- Sound, well yea you're right it does suck for the most part in this game.

- Why do you care that you can't select night mode? you don't seem to like it anyways (it's too dark). :P

- Changing cars you can do from the garage. The actual car does not have to be loaded (as others have stated)

- Paint chip system. Yea that's pretty much a joke.

- Leveling system. It is a bit of a grind, but I do enjoy the racing aspect of this game so it's not bad IMO (A-Spec). B-spec i can just click the button and walk away and do other stuff.

Hate the game or not. Nobody is forcing you to play it.

Well I'm done ranting about a rant thread. This isn't the first rant thread and sure as hell isn't going to be the last.

Whole GT mode is bad joke of year 1997 and once you have it done, there's no single race which is really challenging and all of them are just forgettable. Five laps of very short Rome track competing with few junks got me the same 99k I got from much more challenging 10 laps Super GT race. Who the hell made this system?

Car selection is just silly, how many legends like Audi Quattro S1, BMW M3 E30 or Ferrari Testarossa could be done instead of those japanese econoboxes? They sell majority of the game in Europe and USA and still don't reflect that enough in their creation process.

After just month in the game I'm in the same state like with GT4. I just chose my beloved fraction from the game and it's hotlapping premium supersports with good sound (few cars, actually) in factory state and factory tyres on Nordschleife with pure cockpit view and nothing more.

The sad thing is that they will do another useless game system again because we all bought it from them like sheeps and will do it again.

Sad but true, everyday I come to gtplanet hoping they will release patches for the game.
I mean it's not that bad, but it could be better in may ways, but at this rate I think I'll just prepare by saving up for PS4, waiting another 6 years for GT6, do all these things all over again :D

I feel much of the same.

I don't really enjoy it anymore, but feel compelled to play it because it was the main reason for me buying a PS3 in the first place.

Too dark?
Set ps3 system level display option to limited rgb

Sound sucks?
Get a decent surround kit
Set gt options to large theater
The livingroom setting crushes the audio

Is your car so fast there's no competition in aspec?
That's your fault entirely.

I'm at level 30 now, near 31, and 25 in B-spec, and the game is feeling better and better. If in the future we get an event generator, this will be the best game ever.
