Is anyone else disappointed with GT5?

I am glad forza is available and the better game because is shows PD that there is a new game in town and GT5 is no longer the king of driving sims on consoles.
Kaz has his head so far up his own a**e that he must think that the GT name will sell GT5 no matter what he puts out and GT5 proves this.
But I now know that I will be paying more attention towards the forza franchise from now on and GT6 will not be purchased on release day.
I purchased my PS3 for GT5 and I would happily sell it on if offered the right price for it.

The sad thing is, it probably will sell no matter what. PD have turned what used to be an excellent driving sim into something that attempts to cater for everyone. So much content in GT5 was added purely to appeal to a wider audience and the wider the audience, the more diluted the core features of the game become.

Instead of adding qualifying, they added B-spec.

Instead of refining the AI system, they introduced the (ridiculous) xp system.

Instead of adding more series races, they added the Top Gear Samba Bus challenge.

Instead of adding real life tracks, they added Cape Ring (complete with Mario Kart jump in the middle)

Anyway the list goes on. Sounds like PD have no intention of changing this so hopefully Forza can stay more focused on what makes a good racing game

Last week I got invited to visit the studios of another game company, and there was 1 thing they said that can really be applied here.

What they said was when you try to do too much with a game, you end up watering down each of the individual parts of it. So even though on the surface the game looks huge, in reality it lacks depth. I think that's what really happened here with GT5. It simply tries to do the work of like 3 games, and what you end up with is a lot of quantity, but very little quality.

They need to:

- Get rid of interiors and damage
- Get rid of skid marks
- Get rid of stupid effects like grass swaying as cars pass by
- Get rid of half of the ficticious tracks
- Include ALOT more modern tracks (All F1 calander tracks except maybe valencia).
- Include ALOT more historic racing cars
- Include ALOT more modern racing cars
- Include a few tuner cars
- Include a few more important cars (i.e. BMW E30 m3 etc etc)
- Include a MUCH greater aftermarket wheel selection
- Include a tyre deformation model which includes a temperature monitoring facility (so you can do tyre testing etc etc. Having the ability to change camber, without having the ability to monitor tyre temperatures across the tyre us pointless IMHO).

Absolutely agreed in that PD have produced a game for the mass market where previously, it was a niche for the more focused motorsport gamer.

I am coming over from the xbox360 camp. GT5 is an enjoyable game. It is well made and a very good product. With that being said, I like Forza better for the facts that you can customize your cars with sponsorship and paint and more upgrading possibilities. I am not a fan at all of B spec racing.IF i wanted to watch someone race I would turn a race on t.v. Photo mode is nice but i think too much dedicated to it. I dont know if patches are available to upgrade the paint and mods, but if not GT5 is definately getting traded in.

Can't say I agree with all of those. They should keep interiors and skid marks, improve damage, then scrap all of the standard cars and convert the good ones to premium.

Then do all the rest of the things listed above.

Oh, and fix the AI! How can you have a good racing game without good AI? All of these changes would be pointless without it. This is the most blinding issue in GT5, and yet it is ranked right down the bottom of the feedback forum.

Have people gone mad?

Yes it would save a lot of disk space :dopey:

Sometimes I have to clean the monitor to see if I reading correctly.
Usualy I read posts of people wishing that some features were implemented but to scrap out nice features that are already (and well) done seems a bit silly IMO.

Why would you get rid of anything that WORKS?!

The things to drop are the things that DON'T (like B-Spec), the menu system, the free-for-all that is online (don't drop online, just the aspects that don't work), the glacial grind-heavy upgrade path, things like that...

For right now, though, 400 new A-Spec events with cars as rewards (but normal cr. and XP) and faster AI fixes 90% of what REALLY drags the game down.

Tired of the same ol' same ol'..? Try new improved Grind-be-gone! :sly:

That is one of the things that really bugs me - people wasting votes for an option to fast foward the B-spec when I dont even play it. I think it will be no easy task to simulate 12 diferent cars physics in fast foward but I really dont care I bought the game to drive not to watch. why dont they put out a GT manager instead for those that like that sort of thing.
B-spec was only usefull for the 24 hour races (to help me do them with bob when no friend was around) but know I cant even do that.
If they add a mid enduro race save I really cant see any use for b-spec in the game.
And to see bob enjoy himself more than me - with tyre/fuel wear and longer races really p****s me off

Wanna know something sad like 6 months ago i posted somewhere that wouldn't it be funny if this game was an epic fail

Sadly I got the answer to my question........

Damn you. Haha

I agree with the above though, even when we get the chance to have a say about what we would like fixed, people request trivial things like individual cars and B-spec fast forwarding.

No wonder they haven't fixed the AI, and at this rate they never will

LOL yep i jinx us all

But yea some of the stuff people request is crazy I had guy in my lobby crying about a toyota corolla not being the game the 06 type s and I was like seriously?????

He got kicked

That's the phrase I was after, quality over quantity.

PD need to paint that throughout their studio before they start working on GT6

I don't think you really can say that there is quantity over quality here.
They just slapped on the lvl system making us drive the same ol' races over and over.
I think they lack both quality and quantity.

I am VERY disappointed with the online mode, which was supposed to be THE feature of GT5.
Slow loading times, kick votes don't work, no penalties for dirty players, car selection is messed up, and most of all the lag is ruining the experience (and no it's not my connection, I never had any problem playing FM3 online)
Oh and once you quit a room it doesn't take you to the lobby...no, it takes you back to GT life screen...wtf!

I've been waiting so long to play with GTPlanet members but I just gave up after a few races in public rooms. I can't play online until PD fix these things.

In a away yea but then again who cares it's a reason for me to cut on my PS3 They really need to do a sound update cause the car just sound like S*IT

Yea they do a stock 350z in GT5 vs one in nfs shift and forza 3 sounds pretty lame

Vacuum cleaners is more like it - if they sounded like s***t I would be a little more happy about it

Haha good point. It saddens me to admit what a failure GT5 is...

Oh well, at least the V8 Supercars, F1, Moto GP and WRC all start soon so I can just watch real racing instead!

And this is why I can't stand reading fanboy posts. They'll excuse any and everything leaving the developers to actually believe what they have out there is fantastic. Sickening. Like I've once said they got more excuses for this game than a convict's mother.

This is one of the reasons why Madden will NEVER be a true football sim. Why change it up when you got a bunch of faithfuls gobbling it up like skittles.

GT5 has some good points and ALOT of promise but none of that promise will ever come true if everyone is clamoring it's the best thing since sliced bread when they know it isn't.

I agree, but keep the interior views, because it truly makes it a better and more realistic racing experience, and take away the cosmetic damage, but add just mechanicle and performance damage :D

Looks like the honeymoon is coming to an end.

What honeymoon? this thread was started on the week GT5 was released.
I would definitly be playing forza instead if the X-box had a decent wheel support (blueray, 3d, full hd and free internet would be nice too) but saddly it doesnt so Im stuck playing GT5 and waiting unpaciently for shift 2

I fail to see how any of that would improve this game or future titles in the series; and for all the mediocrity that it is, removing damage in particular would make the game considerably worse.

Yeah I don't think they should get rid of any of those things, just make what is there better then add new cars and tracks.

Ok so they can get rid of B-spec and a few other things but not the things mentioned above

Maybe he means that they could have spent all that time on stuff that actually matters.
The visible damage for example is laughable, i think i was lvl20 in a nascar when i finally saw it for the first time and it wasn't pretty.
I think it's far better to leave it out completely than to halfass it, although if PD went with that philosophy they wouldn't have released the game:dopey:
I also don't want those other things out but damage sucks balls.

First, let me agree with all the points you made. They should have added qualifying. They definitely needed a better AI, and we could certainly use more series of race and real life tracks... but with all that said, most of the things you pointed out already existed in GT4...

They always had B-spec... the xp system is just a slight twist/expansion to the old a-spec points. cap-ring has been around, and the different challenges are no different then the old missions in GT4.

All the above points only adds to my dis-satisfaction for GT5, because it seems that they re-used a bunch of stuff from GT4 (most of the a-spec races are exactly the same as GT4... at least the names and the type of race). To me, re-using is fine, if it means that they can spend that time to improve/add other aspects... but so far quite a few basic "problems" with GT4 were not addressed. The AI is one of them, and so is the overall load-time and menu/screen flow.

for me the biggest problem is the lack of tracks and the lack of current cars the game came out a few months back and i can only find a few 2010 cars and no 2011 cars

More tracks and more cars would be nice but I dont see the point when we dont even use the ones we have now. I rather have more events for the cars and tracks we have now and add new cars and tracks later (again with more events)

We have alot of premium super gts for example and only 3 races to do with them :grumpy:

when I say super GT I also mean rally - LMP - etc etc

Its like I saw the other day in a post here - all dressed up and nowhere to go

This is the first Gran Turismo game I have owned and I sum it up by saying the driving is great, but everything else is garbage. You just spend to much time in the cluttered menus and slow loading times. AND why in Gt Life mode do you have to equip a car from your garage and than go practise with it on a track? Why can you not just go to the practise menu and than choose the car from there? The game makes you go through to many menus, it's so frustrating.

Exactly. The longer PD carry over old car models, the less relevant the game becomes. Let's face it, 100 people might be happy about the inclusion of a particular model of MX-5 or Skyline from the early 90's, but 100% of people would be happy if they included say, a Koenigsegg CCX or a premium Veyron.

It's just not practical anymore to carry over 1000 cars because the time required to bring them up to scratch is just not feasible. They need to offer modern content that is relevant to the times.

The sooner PD get over the whole car count thing the better
