I don't need to vindicate myself for anything. Just as I don't need to allow you to question me. But I am a patient person and will gladly answer any questions you may have.

However, a single clarification query and response regarding the topic should be all that is ever necessary for inline moderation. Any in-depth discussion over moderation should go in its own thread in the feedback section. You can even hyperlink this post there.

Any further attempts to discuss this subject here will be regarded as spam and will be deleted. Thank you.

On topic:

While I think that the feedback page is a very good idea to "channel" our wishes for PD to find, I must say I'm not so sure whether all of the discussed shortcomings are "accidents" on PD's side.

I mean I'm sure that they will fix a lot of things given they generally are willing to and it is doable with reasonable time and effort. But how many of those things were deliberate decisions? And would they also change those, or would Kaz insist that it stays the way it is, because it is exactly like he wanted it to be?

WTF? Has this turned into a 'debate with the mod team' thread?

Personally, I'll just say this:
I've been quite critical of GT5 most of the time (although I do try and keep it constructve) and I know fairly well that, in a heated discussion, I tend to take a more negative stance, quite often. That's mostly due to the fact that I'm often trying to contrast what I deem to be overly positive opinions.

Now, the mod team has been fairly laid back (as far as I am concerned) and that's something I appreciate. A lot. Being able to voice a negative opinion without a fear of consequences is one of the things I like around here; unlike a certain (official) forum dedicated to a direct competitor.

It might be true that the general opinion around here isn't as positive as it is on other boards. Given that GT5 is what it is, I don't think that's a very negative thing, though. You know, the whole 'lipstick on a pig' thing.
I for one prefer honesty over a 'positive' general opinion, any day of the week.

Lastly, there's always a difference between discussing somethign and someone and showing disrespect towards that person (which I'm guilty of as well, don't wanna come across as goody two-shoes).

Anyways, now that that rant is over, I'd like to actually post something on topic.

I had a little spare time before going to work today, so I decided to fire GT5 up for half an hour; not too much to do, so intead of the usual hotlapping, I gave Arcade Mode another go, as it's been a while since I last hade a go at it.
Picked one of my go-to cars, the Cusco Dunlop Subaru '08 (stock, except for the oil change) and selected the professional difficulty.

Now, when that car list ran across the screen, I was like 'what the hell?!'. Okay, so the Ai got an Amuse S2000 GT1. Lower weight, same downforce levels, way more power. A lot of stuff in between, as I'm starting in a dead last place.

Now, all of that is somewhat fine. What actually got to me is how, well, ridiculous this is. Because the only thing that makes racing even such overpowered cars challenging is the traffic you'll have to pass to actually start racing the leader of the pack.
Just to explain this a bit more: I'm usually running 7:10s with my C. Sooby. Now, with all of that traffic, my first lap was a 7:40. After that first lap, I was in second place, 15 seconds behind the leader. By the end of lap two, I was three seconds behind him (less than one before the Döttinger Höhe).

What I'm trying to say is: PD needs to somehow adress the AI and their pace. Ugh. The most annoying thing when trying to race in an inferior car is, in my opinion, this:
In order to actually be faster, you'll need to brake later and corner faster, since you can't keep up with the AI in terms of top speed.
However, since they're braking so friggin' early and corner slower like my grandma would when getting groceries, the corners are usually so clogged up with AI cars, that you're forced to drive very aggressively...

Okay, I'm sorry for the double rant, but... Well, I needed to vent a little, I guess

Lumi.

Maybe try handicapping yourself via lower grade tires. Not a perfect solution but it works to some extent.
Can be fun too.

Just a suggestion.

Yeah, it works, it just feels... You know, kinda false. It's not that it's not challanging once the AI has a big enough advantage.

It's just, you know, it's like racing that rich kid with your trusty WRX. You beat him on every corner, but as soon as he gets to unwind daddy's Porsche Turbo, you're shafted.
Not a bad thing, in and off itself, it's just that, in a game, the satisfaction of wiping that certain, smug grin from such a guy's face is missing.

I guess it just boils down to this: There's no sensation of racing when facing the AI. I guess that's it. It feels like hotlapping with obstacles, but not like racing.
Don't get me wrong, I love the holapping in GT5, as the physics are great. The driving is great. it's just that the offline racing is totally poor.

Ah, whatever. I'm actually in a good mood right now, considering I learned that the guys behind the GTR games are developing Shift 2, about five minutes ago
That's the first time I've ever developed the hope for a NFS game to become a decent sim.

Couldn't help but noticing the many requests in the new feedback section that are for features that were in previous GTs, or just improvements to those features.

Thats as good an indication as any, PD went the wrong direction with GT5.

They are working since the first game:
:yuck:
And here I thought that would bode well for the future of Shift 2. Well, I obviously didn't keep in touch with NFS, so thanks for the heads up :)

I think this thread should be renamed - so who isn't disappointed with GT5 to cut down on server space!
Quite probable... I think there's a lot of people who experienced one disappointment or another. Some minor, some major...

Myself and 6 friends bought GT5 on release.
3 have stopped playing, 2 have already traded the game in and the last friend has even traded his PS3 and GT5 in for a xbox360 and forza3.
I am the only one left playing.
I asked them why and every single one replied that the game feels old and stodgy. They said various comments about the fact that doing oil changes and car washes felt tedious. Although they enjoyed GT5, there were to many decisions that didn't make sense. Where was the WRC and nascar license?
Why is the top gear track so underused? Where are the stig times to try and beat? Where were all the courses? If you are going to transfer all the cars from GT4 then why not all the courses? Where are all the classic ferraris? But look we have full beam lights, horns, screen tear and framerate problems!!!! What was fun 10 years ago is just not fun anymore and that's what GT5's main competitor is, that gaming has moved on and evolved.
Kaz, PD and the gran turismo hasn't.
If Sony don't step in and do something then GT6 is finished before it leaves the starting block. It's hard to believe that what once was the market leader is not at the back of the grid. It just proves that you should never rest on your laurels.
The next patch will be the last and by 3 months no more seasonal challenges.
What really annoys me is that when watching the dev programs on GTTV, you can see the rest of the team sitting nodding when Kaz brings up and issue or talks about the game but surely some of them must have thought that what he's doing is wrong and here's a better way to approach it.
All I see is Kaz driving around the ring while his team make the game.

GT5 truly is a bewildering puzzle, as far as what happened with it.

Speculations run rampant as many of the threads here can attest.

The only hint of a possible explanation I have heard was from Kaz when he indicated many parts of the game had to be completely redone from scratch.

Even if that was the case, its still hard to believe that after almost 6yrs it would not have been better.

At any rate, I'm confident that I'm not alone in saying this situation makes me very suspect of GT6.

Sad as it is, a GT game is no longer a guarantee, that it will be a great game.

It would be great to know what % of the highly disappointed people to the point of no playing the game or trading the system are migrated xbox Forza players(or casual GT players), how many are typical GT players knowledgeable of the series and how many are pc sim players new to the series or car nuts that didn't cared before of console sims.

I think we would have a pattern here.

Disappointed, but maybe my expectations were too high to begin with after such a long wait...Holding out hope that some DLC and some reversible errors can turn a merely 'great' game into something epic...

Not really playing GT5 anymore and am waiting to see what Shift 2 and Forza 4 would bring to the table.

In the meantime, I'm playing Forza 1 (don't have an X360). I had some really great races with the AI the past couple of days of doing the Professional GT/GTS racing.

Honestly wouldn't be surprised to find out half way through they scrapped the whole process and started anew after getting mired in some really messy bad code or something.

Didn't Halo 2 end up being redone from scratch when someone stole the code most of the way through development?

My old nemisses.... M. Rossi... I'd put him into a wall.

Surprisingly, I've been having some clean racing with these guys. Not only that, the AI actually tries to overtake me. None has even slammed me from behind. (which is NOT what I remember when I used to play FM1 regularly)

I'm hard-pressed to say that about any GT game, because once I'm past them, they don't put up a fight.

The game you're thinking of is Half Life 2. According to Valve, some of the code got stolen and they had to start over (yeah right ;) ).

Oh, yeah, Rossi  Lovely guy. Maybe he should give Bob and the AI a lesson or two in terms of driving aggressively :D

The games rubbish not plaing anymore pm when gt6 is out or when they fix the game.. peace

here here I second that. The bottom line is the game sucks its unlike the old GT's of the past were they would introduce you to different racing series'es from around the world. How can you have a whole line of JGTC, and NASCAR cars, but you forget about other classes like WTCC, DTM, Grand AM, and GT1. Even Formula 1 for that matter the worlds most popular Motorsport, isn't really in this game. OK yeah you have 2 Ferrari carts but nun of the other 24 or so teams. so I'm hoping Kazunori Yamauchi is smart enough to go back to the original ones from the PS1 and just add modern updates like all the popular racing series'es from around the world, Newer cars (not a older 2005 mustang GT when you have a 2010 Camaro) and all cars in 100% true HD not PS2 graphics or even PS1 graphics just smoothed over and a better selection of races. Like they did on GT2 I mean your using a 80GB Bluray Disc if thats not enough space use two like you did on GT2 separate arcade mode on 1 and Simulation mode on the other

Straight answer to the topic question:

Nope

There are shortcommings, but its all about what you expect. I'm happy with the game

For over 5 years in development I am very disappointed. I have completed as much as gt5 as I can now - all normal races, all gold just long endurances left which I will never ever do - come on 5 hours in front of a ps3 👎
My ps3 has now been sold along with gt5 for this very reason, the game is too short, too easy and the forza series on the xbox is far superior. 👍

Yeah damn it I've always been a GT fan but I would be stupid not to buy Forza 4, even if the PS3 has to go to make way for it.

I know people say you shouldn't chose one or the other but unless you can afford to own both systems (which I can't) then you really do have to choose. Oh well, at least F1 2011, WRC 2011, Nascar etc. will all be available on both systems.

Imagine if Forza 4 came out for PS3, then PD would be in serious trouble...

I'm almost out of money, and I'm dreading the coming grind as I build cars for online hp limits. Maybe I can make it to the 1.06 patch...

I sure hope PD enables remote grinding soon, so I can finally not play GT5 while not in front of my ps3. It sounds funny, but I know you're all thinking it too.

If you like the game so much, feel free to stay out of threads that explicitly aren't going to be sunshine and rainbows to your viewpoint.
