WTF? Has this turned into a 'debate with the mod team' thread?
Personally, I'll just say this:
I've been quite critical of GT5 most of the time (although I do try and keep it constructve) and I know fairly well that, in a heated discussion, I tend to take a more negative stance, quite often. That's mostly due to the fact that I'm often trying to contrast what I deem to be overly positive opinions.
Now, the mod team has been fairly laid back (as far as I am concerned) and that's something I appreciate. A lot. Being able to voice a negative opinion without a fear of consequences is one of the things I like around here; unlike a certain (official) forum dedicated to a direct competitor.
It might be true that the general opinion around here isn't as positive as it is on other boards. Given that GT5 is what it is, I don't think that's a very negative thing, though. You know, the whole 'lipstick on a pig' thing.
I for one prefer honesty over a 'positive' general opinion, any day of the week.
Lastly, there's always a difference between discussing somethign and someone and showing disrespect towards that person (which I'm guilty of as well, don't wanna come across as goody two-shoes).
Anyways, now that that rant is over, I'd like to actually post something on topic.
I had a little spare time before going to work today, so I decided to fire GT5 up for half an hour; not too much to do, so intead of the usual hotlapping, I gave Arcade Mode another go, as it's been a while since I last hade a go at it.
Picked one of my go-to cars, the Cusco Dunlop Subaru '08 (stock, except for the oil change) and selected the professional difficulty.
Now, when that car list ran across the screen, I was like 'what the hell?!'. Okay, so the Ai got an Amuse S2000 GT1. Lower weight, same downforce levels, way more power. A lot of stuff in between, as I'm starting in a dead last place.
Now, all of that is somewhat fine. What actually got to me is how, well, ridiculous this is. Because the only thing that makes racing even such overpowered cars challenging is the traffic you'll have to pass to actually start racing the leader of the pack.
Just to explain this a bit more: I'm usually running 7:10s with my C. Sooby. Now, with all of that traffic, my first lap was a 7:40. After that first lap, I was in second place, 15 seconds behind the leader. By the end of lap two, I was three seconds behind him (less than one before the Döttinger Höhe).
What I'm trying to say is: PD needs to somehow adress the AI and their pace. Ugh. The most annoying thing when trying to race in an inferior car is, in my opinion, this:
In order to actually be faster, you'll need to brake later and corner faster, since you can't keep up with the AI in terms of top speed.
However, since they're braking so friggin' early and corner slower like my grandma would when getting groceries, the corners are usually so clogged up with AI cars, that you're forced to drive very aggressively...
Okay, I'm sorry for the double rant, but... Well, I needed to vent a little, I guess
