Is anyone else disappointed with GT5?

There is no way that he would have green-lighted the disgusting mess that is B-Spec mode unless he really likes it. That doesn't make me very optimistic about the future (or lack thereof) of GT series!

Well... Maybe he just picked a random employee and... Well, this is the conversation I could imagine:

Kaz: "Hey, random shirt guy over there!"
Ken: "Mr. Kazunori, the name's Kenshin, I've been working with you since - "
Kaz: "Yeah, whatever, we need more content for GT5. Do something about it!"
Ken: "Mr. Kazunori, I don't really have an idea about what to - "
Kaz: "You have to, we've got to get the game out of the door pretty darn soon!"
Ken: "But Mr. Kaz - "
Kaz: "That's the spirit! If you need me, I'm at the track, racing!" *turns cell phone off, leaves office*

Brilliant!!

This made my day:lol:

I think Kaz green lighted B-Spec because he probably thought it would be at the same ratio to A-Spec that GT4 was. But then, he went to the track, and all the A-Spec employees took four years off!

I'll so be making a meme out of that with a piture from Kaz or two, once I get home today

Something along the lines of...

"At first, I was like..."

All the time... some idiot in the car design department didn't get the memo from the physics programmers so they hard locked all the RM and other race cars into having double clutches and semi-race flywheels that can't be down spec'd, which upon closer examination is the cause of half the erratic driving issues on the lighter cars. I tested street cars between stock, single, twin clutch and combos of stock, sports, and semi-race flys; found that on some cars a pairing of single clutch and sports flywheel can produce gobs of extra lap time, Lotus 111R (non-RM) for example; RM is stuck with it's broken semi-race. "So, in the end, he's never PLAYED the game."

Actually I think he's played the game a hell of a lot. In an interview, he answered a question about how many virtual laps he had done at Nurburgring. If I recall corrrect, the answer was > 1000.

If PD doesn't get it's "act together" regarding customer satisfaction GT6 sales may suffer significantly.

But he probably never started off with no level and no credits to work his way up in A-spec and B-spec.
Yes, I am disappointed too. Everything has been said already, no need to repeat It again. What keeps me coming back to GT5 is the abilty to race, I mean drive, with some cars I haven't encountered in another PS3 game, and that I can use these cars online. That's It, really. Shame they are all standard.

The first GT game I played to exhaustion was GT4. It kept me entertained for several years of solid gametime until I finally got bored of driving the same tracks over and over again.

I really do enjoy GT5, but the reality is that after about a month of owning this game I'm getting bored again. It just seems to me that it's a re-hash of GT4. A lot of the same cars, a lot of the same tracks, a lot of the same events. It's not a surprise really since GT4 was a rehash of GT3 to an extent, which was a rehash of GT2 and so-on. It's just that "improved physics" only takes a game so far.

I really wasn't even planning on buying the game but when I heard about the "Course Maker" feature of GT5 I figured that alone would cure my course boredom, but it hasn't. Nor has the addition of the much-missed Ferrari and Lamborghini vehicles, which I was eagerly anticipating (especially the Countach and F40, 2 of my favorite vehicles as a child in the early '80s).

About the only thing I'm really looking forward to in this game are the long endurance races, but I'm now at A-Spec 29 and face a seemingly endless grind to 35 to open the LeMans endurance race.

All that said it's still the only game I've played since Christmas. That must count for something right?

How on-line can get bored?
???

Uhm, just like any other game with online multyplayer? Even Diablo II got boring after a while.

Besides, about the only thing online rectifies is the dumb AI. And it's still no excuse for a lacking single player.

is Anybody who complain to get bored try to play online?

Free runs, drag races, show & trade... and there's tons of people driving recklessly with an X2010, going in the wrong direction, hitting you every 30 seconds.

Online is not even fun, every car is the same, looks the same...

I've been in maybe, 4-5 good free runs where I was cruising around the track with random people that were actually good at driving, so it felt like a GT race (with different types of cars). Besides that, online is horrible, especially when people turn their mic on and all you hear is what's happening in their home, so now, when I join a lobby (rarely), I mute everyone with a mic before driving.

What's the size of the iRacing development team? I remember hearing it was quite small. The budget for iRacing would not be anywhere even close to that of Gran Turismo's either.
iRacing is a simulation that's extremely limited in focus. From the programming side of things, it's very small in comparison. This isn't downplaying iRacing at all, because it's a very successful implementation of an online racing engine, and there are some serious technical accomplishments there.

iRacing has just a handful of cars, and time/resource-consuming 'content' isn't really there. 'Atmosphere' isn't really iRacing's consideration, so no time was spent on that. Artistry wasn't a consideration, and it's an essentially no-frills simulation. Part of its success is its limited scope, which somebody else mentioned earlier was part of GT5's problem -- the scope got too large.

That happens with public lobbies in every game. If you want good driving you have a full dedicated online forum here in GTP.

I don't doubt that he puts the laps in but I doubt he plays the actual game in the way we do. He probably uses some development machine, brings up some dev menu and loads up the track and car of his choice.

I really think Kaz - if he hasn't - needs to spend a day or two experiencing the GT5 experience from scratch as the customer would. He could of course be blinkered and unable to see the faults of his own creation.

I agree, and realistically, I think he needs a month, and not playing it at work. Playing it on his own time, and seeing how the endurance racing works into his daily life, having to leave the PS3 on for days as he finds the time to complete things like the FGT championship or the 24 Hours of LeMans, etc, would give him a better view of the actual game experience.

There just seems to be a need for re-thinking a few things. Some subtle revisions could go a long way.

If they correct a few important stuff, GT5 could be a great game as the basics are there :

The Driving is great and it does look gorgeous when you have a premium car.

What i really would like are :

A few more real world tracks.
Knowing we will get 5 new cars pack every month or so ( free or not..)
Rewinding and FF replays.
Racing with BOB for endurance races.
More wheels and new paint model where you can preview your car and buy the damn paint chips.

In essence, that was my point.

I always found it a little odd that a game that aspires to simulation status has Photo Mode, or B Spec for that matter. These two features are as arcade as it get's.

You will never make everyone happy by simply implementing feature upon feature.

One thing I will say is that the gates are open, the king is on vacation, and the guards are drunk. Other developers are reading this stuff and are hitting the books. But it's gotta be on the PS3 because not everyone wants to use a kinect or buy new hardware. I for one would be hugely upset if I had to pay xbox live fees.

I am not saying that all you guys who don't have an Xbox must now rip open their wallets and buy one, what I am trying to say is that if I had known GT5 would fall on my expectations, I would have continued to play Forza 3 instead of GT5.

And I do hope developers are taking note, because if there is going to be a GT6, I (along with many others) would really like these issues to be addresed. We have waited 6 years for this game, and still these minor issues have been overlooked.

It almost feel as if some of the developers gave up halfway, and in many aspects, you can actually see that:
- They started designing cars properly (Premium cars), but then they sort of gave up and decided to lower their standards to Standard cars.
- They thought of modifications for cars, and then they left out the brakes
- They started adding the RM option for cars, but stopped at about 17 (out of +1000)
- They designed the Top Gear race track, but then forgot than people would want a standing start rather than a rolling start.
- They got a license from Ferrari, Lambo, Maserati and Pagani, and then forgot about Porsche (even though there are RUF cars, Porsches are still preferred)
- They designed the Licenses, but then forget to add licenses as a requirement for events.
- They upgraded their software which gave a bit more give and take when you hit somebody in licenses, and then they forgot to reverse the feature to allow the opponents in licenses to get disqualified (as i spent literally days stuck on licenses because i was trying to avoid being hit by other cars as i got disqualified in these cases)

The list just go on. Make no mistake, I do enjoy the game, and if it had taken 3/4 years to be released, i wouldn't be complaining, but after 6 years and the absolutely brilliant GT4, come on PD, where is it, where is that finishing touch that has made each of the previous GT's such a massive hit. A game that has taken this long to develop, should be polished to perfection, I'm afraid GT5 is nowhere near that.

Gt auto and the menus are what really ruin this game for me. They are just too slow and clunky. It takes far too long to do a simple oil change. I really hope (and I can't believe im saying this) they just release some sort of special edition with updated menus and have gt auto integrated with the garage.

Also ,one thing I really don't understand is why the game needs to install 3 second voice clips. They did a horrible job on the install.

See, the problem with that is simple: FM3 has been for almost a year and a half by now. It would've gotten old even without any kind of competition.

I don't like playing TWO driving games at the same time. You spend HOURS honing your chops, your recognition of the visual clues, your getting familiar with the often quite different physics between them... and you end up a jack of all trades, and master of none!

So, Shift has sat unused while I have played GT5 since launch day. But there are many times I really WANTED to play it. I miss the FUN, I miss the easy, fun and competitive online, with little to no ridiculous lag issues, unreliable lobbies, and convoluted, unstandardized racing. To be honest, Shuffle Races have been the most fun I have had so far (I like to drive a wide range of different cars on different tracks, not tune a tiny handful and race those all the time) and even most of those are ADD little one or two lap things... seems like most of the people that like changing cars every time like very short races, too.

But it sits there unused, while I try to get GT5's driving mastered (got a LONG way to go!). But the GAME itself, is a mess. It COULD be fixed, but little Kaz has brought out so far in patches and additional content seems to address the main gripes.

But Shift 2 is coming... End of March. It LOOKS as if physics accuracy is VERY high on their list, better wheel FFB and no input smoothing, the kinds of cars and tracks we like here, without 500 cars that no-one actually wants to RACE. Online, if it is up to Shift 1's standard, will be better than GT5, offline would be very hard pressed to be WORSE (the last one was spectacularly better than GT5 in terms of game progression, event variety and logic), we get the detail tuning and upgrading, up to and including engine swaps, that PD don't seem to think we want (don't seem to think we even want adjustable tire pressure to account for hot/cold tracks or adjustable gears!), and helmet cam and hood cam seem better than GT5's views...

So, as far as I am concerned, Kaz doesn't have a year to get GT5 fixed. He's got a couple of months (to show he has ANY concern with the main gripes, anyway) and he's already HAD a couple of months. If I put Shift 2 in to my PS3, and everything works well, I gotsta GO....! And I won't be back, not for GT6, for sure! My GT5 copy will go back to the store, where someone else can buy it cheap and PD will lose a sale of a retail copy, and I will be playing Shift 2.

If, in four months, PD haven't even addressed ONE of the major problems (which I think are A-Spec paucity, AI slowness, and logical, grind-free game progression), what's the likelihood they EVER will?

I really hate to do this, I really do. I wanted GT5 to be everything we had every right to expect (a game at least as good as GT4, at the minimum). But, if I'm willing to miss out on Shift 1 while I try to master GT5's handling, I am going to be willing to miss out on GT5 while I get used to Shift 2's handling.

So, PD.... the clock is ticking. Tick tock. Tick tock. Tick tock....

I have yet to hear the plight of Gran Turismo 5 articulated as well as this. The only parts Kaz would play, are near perfect. The parts he would skip through/by, are horrid. It just makes too much sense.

I agree with this. Kaz has mentioned on a number of occasions that he put a lot of effort into the nordschleife and I'm not going to lie, it is brilliant. This track alone and the gt-r trophy make everything worth while.

I guarantee u kaz did not sit through the samba bus challenge for hours, it obviously just seemed like a good idea at the time.

In short, thankyou KY for the nordschleife, but could u please deliver the rest of the game. DLC or GT6 is fine, please just don't make us wait another 5 years

I actually agree with most of your post. Seriously, I never thought I'd even consider dropping a GT game for NFS, but... It's actually happening. Feels bad. Like, really bad.

Thing is, physics aren't everything. They're incredible in GT5 and while that's one of the most important aspects of game (to me, at least), it's not the only one that counts...

I'm a burger guy, but if I have to decide between two restaurant...

Restaurant A: Awesome burger, bad fries, bad chicken wings, bad drink.
Restaurant B: Good burger, good fries, good chicken wings, good drink.

I'll take Restaurant B, thanks ;)
