Interestingly it seems it doesn't work with a lot of other games... so it seems PD and GT5 (and now their specially made wheel) really are the non standard part of the equation...

Well with the original F1CE game on PS3 the game had to be patched for different wheels, and F12010 added support for more wheels after it was released. I imagine there will be more support added over time.
