It is me or the AI in NASCAR is ridiculous

I'm not saying it isn't! ALL I'm saying is in SSRX it is 95% SLR and 5% VERY gradual turning that only a Veyron would have to brake for. In Daytona, it's a different kind of flat-out where it is a lot more turning whilst sill in full throttle.

I wasn't aware there were two different types of flat out full throttle, lol. I'm still not sure I understand what you are trying to say. I responded to you originally because you said min. aero at Daytona was better, which it is NOT. That was the point I was debating with you about. So, as I really don't feel like carrying this on any further, I'm just going to end my part here. Its all good and it was nice talking to you. Peace.

Have to agree, at Daytona and for that matter Indy, running max' downforce makes you vulnerable. Remove all the downforce you can for Daytona and a fair chunk of it at Indy.

You are so wrong its not even funny.

Max Downforce. Gets you prepared for online racing as well.

I'm not even sure why you're bringing up SSRX. OP is about the NASCAR championship, which SSRX isn't even in.

I run in a NASCAR league, and been involved in NASCAR on GT5 since the day it came out.

I have one the most stable, and fastest cars out there and that's without any aero whatsover. Test after test has proven that increasing the rear aero slows your times but achieves better (longer) tyre wear.

There is no way that lap v lap in freerun would produce a faster car, that has full downforce applied. Simple fact.

Thank you.

I brought up SSRX to show that reducing downforce in GT5 does increase top speed. Why we are still dwelling on that is anyone's guess. To be honest, this thread probably could have closed a long time ago.

Yeah, something sounds terribly wrong at Indy if anything less than max downforce is even close to competitive.

Thank you.

That was never a debate. Yes, downforce changes top speed, it's well known. Both of the threads I linked to showed this. But it's a pitiful change, so small as to not matter (except on Route X where downforce plays no roll at all). Even drag racers seem to like running high downforce.

As for the ongoing discussion, it's relevant. Determining the optimum downforce setting will lead to a faster car, which should help with the problem of beating the race.

It won't gain you any top speed.
Me saying that caused more trouble than I thought it would. If you want to be precise, then "It won't gain you enough top speed to overcome the loss in cornering".

I completely agree.

Yeah, more downforce does increase tyre longevity and make the car a little more planted to the ground, it helps in dirty air and in corners.

it helps in dirty air and in corners.

One other thing is that I'm not quite sure that dirty air exists at all in the game considering all the other problems with aerodynamics and my own experience, but I've never tested to confirm this.

It certainly does exist.

Do you have any data to back that up? Whenever I tried drafting behind a pack of cars, I've never felt any variation in stability, cornering or acceleration. There is also no downforce loss while drafting.

Not to sound like an elitist, but like I said, I hold one of the fastest online solo lap times at Daytona...with full aero. Fact. Also, I can go into any online lobby and win my share of races with with full aero, again, fact. Matter of fact, that little NASCAR league that your in, I was once kicked out of one of their public rooms last summer because I won 4 out of 5 races and they (mustangryan or droptopgto, don't remember) thought I was cheating somehow and had a glitched car. At any rate, I have countless days of testing to back my claims up.

So you are saying that you run better lap times at Daytona with your aero set to 50/70 than having it set to 20/40?
Also I race in the public Daytona rooms that are usually hosted by (assuming you know them) Rakeman/Rubber_Necker/Motiondog/Gas_hole_rcn (and I'll also that those guys are the best Daytona racers I have ever seen) and sometimes join other public lobbies but I've never seen you. So...:scared:

People assume when they go wide it's because of a lack of downforce but it's probably because they are simply entering the corner faster than usual. Then again I'm certain Jeff Gordon mentioned dirty air during his special event.

That is correct, I run better lap times with full aero. And yes, I know the guys you are talking about. I have been out of the NASCAR scene for about 3 months now but used to run with the USS team (Dolphin, Achor, Minnow, Blessorship, etc) and ran some with the RIP team also. I was among one of the first to do the 50+ laps on soft tires also. thecallmeherbie can vouch for me also. Also, I finnished 27th in the NASCAR TT we had a while back. So yes, I do know what I'm talking about when I speak about NASCAR in this game. Plenty of experience and testing.

For the record, despite the heated argument between the two sides, no one has posted any proof (this includes me).

I don't play GT all that often any more, but I assume at least someone in this thread does. Why not run some test laps and then upload a replay (either on youtube or just a file for people to watch on their PS3's).

I would, but I have yet to find a method of uploading replays short of taping them with a video camera.

Also it depends on driving style. For a recent race i was given a set up with less aero - quicker but looser. And suspension was changed enough to compensate for tyre loss. Its down to driving style.

Post moved to the end for easier reference.

Lastly, before I start, does anyone see anything which need be added to authenticate the results?

If you're using more than one car, make sure you do both tests on all cars.

Why would you even use a different car? Use the same car and make sure it's fully broken in.

Why break them in? Back up your save and buy two identical cars, give them oil change, and give them the same tune except for downforce. Run the same number of laps in each, and you'll take mileage and horsepower out as variables.

This. That is the absolut best way to do it. If you drive the car it will gain HP, thus nulling the results.

A non broken in car will gain HP throught the race. One could gain more than the other., which would corrupt results. A freshly broken in car will have the same HP for a good amount of time.
