Nope. Sideways is worse. The crash structure and safety devices are geared towards absorbing the most kinetic energy in a head-on hit. The car is still tremendously strong if you hit sideways, but not quite as strong, and it's a very low car, chances are it could have slid under the crane, with Bianchi's helmet hitting the body of the vehicle.

Possibly.

No need to say how bad that would be...

And, according to the german broadcast, that's exactly what has happened. He apparently slipped sideways under the tractor.

Still awaiting news on Jules.

Yeah they are booing him that is asinine, Vettel drove great...

I noticed that when Lewis passed Nico it was lap 29 just like it was at Monza and Silverstone when Rosberg hit trouble.

What's up with the booing on Vettel? I cannot remember which race this year he'd done something to pissed of some fans. :odd:

German broadcast said that Bianchi was/is unconscious :nervous:

Bianchi unconscious! :nervous::nervous::nervous::nervous::nervous::nervous::nervous::nervous:

So Bianchi officially unconscious, taken to hospital with a police escort.

Yeah, 🤬 that's bad. Really hope he comes out okay...

Maybe some people, who're mad that he's going away after the season.
Vettel in general isn't the most popular driver in this series.

It's just sad, if you dislike a driver, keep your mouth shut and don't boo him.

Bianchi has been taken to hospital via ambulance not helicopter because of the poor weather not allowing the helicopter to fly.

He exists. That's enough for some people. And I mean that at both ends of the spectrum; the fan boys and the boo boys.

Jules was unconscious and was taken to the nearest hospital (40m away by ambulance) in Nagoya.

what ADrian Sutil crash hit Tractor? which? Sutil is alive?

At this case right now, I think Bianchi might have some injuries, nothing major I hope.

They say its a pretty bad crash.

Mostly true but not if the thing you hit is at head height; there's no crash structure in front of the driver in that case. That's what I think happened here, certainly it's what happened with Maria de Villota. I guess in a side impact you have some of the airbox/housing to share the side impact.

The decision to have this race in the first place looks more stupid now..

Official report: Jules in unconscious. Turns out medical helicopter cannot fly in this weather. ;PLEASE DON'T SPREAD UNOFFICIAL REPORTS

EDIT: trying to fix this twitter quote.

Apparently it was at full speed.

Well, my race recap.

Such a shame for Alonso. Over before it even started.

Amazing drive from Rosberg AND Hamilton. Had me seeing shades of Senna and Prost from years ago.

Vettel did very well, he deserves no boos. Good drive.

Magnussen also had a very gutsy drive. Great to see.

But of course, I am incredibly worried about Bianchi.

AND

I place ALL of the blame for anything that happens to Bianchi SQUARELY on the race promoters.

I understand that they didn't want to move the race up in case fans couldn't get there in time, but chances are Bianchi would be fine right now if this race had been held at noon, or earlier.

Also, my thoughts to the fans who now have to get out of the track and escape a typhoon.

Overall, great race, but horrible planning, and it may have even cost the life of a racecar driver, as well as the lives of fans who won't get to safety in time.

It's now questionable why the safety car didn't deploy earlier.

Clearly a side impact.

OK, Bianchi being unconscious doesn't sound like good news, but its better than being declared dead.
Hopefully he can make a full recovery soon.

It cant have been at full speed as there were under Yellows at that part of the track...

Sure it sounds better than "he passed away", but the fact that he is unconscious means he must have hit his head on the tow truck and that would be really bad.

I really have a feeling that this crash could also mean that we'll be seeing close cabin formula 1 cars in the very near future as I think this might've "prevented" the crash, at least the severity of it.
