But some rooms kick people for not having a headset.

Now, room host is entitled to run his room how he wishes, doesn't bother me in the least. I'm just curious why this would matter to people.

1 ) It's just plain easier to communicate to explain rules and such.

2 ) It can be really nice to relax and "shoot the breeze" with the friends you do have while racing.

3 ) It's actually quite nice when respectful drivers can call out important things on the racetrack to keep things running smoothly. For example: "I'm going by on you right" "I'm staying to the left here as I rejoin the track" "big accident in turn 5, everybody stay outside" "<.*-=0SUPARWSUM0=-*.> is driving backwards guys, watch out" et cetera.

4 ) Instant apologies for contact don't allow the anger to fester for 15 minutes.

5 ) Over many years of racing across multiple titles the idea has emergered (true or not)that the jerks running backwards and so on tend to not have/use mics.

Probably more reasons too.

I prefer having a mic. That way I can warn the incompetent ones during a race and not hurt my pace. I hate trying to type out things, especially when the stupidest words blank out your whole message.

It is especially annoying when people have kids/wives/girlfriends/siblings crying/screaming/causing racket in the background. Those people get muted. Along with people that don't speak english, cause it's not like I'll understand then anyways.

There is one offender I have seen online a few times. He talks in spanish constantly, has his kids crying in the background, dog barking and wife making noise/talking. Most annoying person I've met online that doesnt drive like an asshat.

I forgot one:

Because many people don't have USB keyboards, and even for those that do it's a big hassle ever since Sony decided they could save massive amounts of money by removing 2 30 cent(guess but we all know it's not much) connectors from the PS3. Like I wouldn't have paid 304.99 for my replacement slim instead of 299.99.

One of the plugs is nearly always filled by the recharging cable, and if you have a wheel... one of them has to get swapped. If you have a controller that uses a USB dongle you're in even more trouble.

And "dit dit dit dit dit" style typing on the DS3 really sucks. So does waiting for someone to do it.

The solution is simple. Invest 5 bucks on a USB extension, can be bought in any computer store. Uses up 1 USB port, gives you 4 (usually). Problem solved.

You expect people to expend effort to enhance their gaming experience? Next thing you'll be sugesting people back up their saves and hard drives. And go out and buy cheap USB keyboards. :)

It is of course a very viable solution, but still doesn't excuse Sony's foolishness.

Thanks for your guy's feedback! I usually race with the same adults and I beat them pretty often, no lie. Like I said I if you want some good racing send me a FR, setting up a same car room Fri. Night. Everyone uses the same recommended car and tire (not always racing softs) Thanks again!

I'm 14 years old. I can say that I'm a fairly decent driver, even though I rarely win online races. During serious races, I race a proper line and avoid contact at all costs. I race with a DFGT and use very little aids (TCS 2, ABS 1). I have a mic but I never use it, since I find them annoying most of the time and I'm basically just a really quiet person.

I have a friend my age that got GT5 just to play with me. He knows absolutely NOTHING about cars, motorsports, etc. He basically has no interest, really. So after some "good" private lounge racing at Route X, I change the track to the 'Ring. He e-brakes every corner thinking it's a "drift", goes over the grass, scrapes the walls, and crashes into me when he finally catches up.

People like him give us a bad rep. He may be the casual gamer who buys racing games just for the awesome visual effects (NFS, Burnout, Split/Second, etc.), but I appreciate cars enough to love this game and play it the way it was meant to be. There are other 14 year olds who are very good, clean racers and can compete with someone who is like 20+.

Just spreading a nice message here 👍

It's not a matter of your driving skill (i.e. whatever driving aids you use), it's a matter of whether or not you drive cleanly.

Probably more reasons too.

1) I can hear you without a mic, so moot point.

2) That's a reason you like to have one. Not necessary for everybody.

3) Again, I can still hear those.

4) Fair enough.

5) Stereotyping isn't a good reason IMO.

So 1 out of 5 of these are valid, and I don't think that's a good enough reason to kick somebody from a room for not having a mic. If I don't want to chit chat while racing, that has no bearing on my ability to be a good, clean racer in the room.

You first paragraph also outlines a reason you like headsets, but it's hardly a reason that everybody should have one.

Your last two paragraphs are actually reasons why people maybe shouldn't have headsets, so I'm not sure what your point is.

In the end, I still don't understand why a host would require a headset, but host's room = host's rules I suppose *shrug*

I NEVER use assist, rarely go into a room Wich allows assist

...I had a 14 year old on my friends list. He asked me how old I was one day racing. I told him the truth, he told his mom. Mom abruptly gets on his microphone and starts calling me a pervert, etc...
That's just stupid of her.

There's just way too much intolerence around, mostly due to people living their lives ruled by preconceptions.

Good luck to the OP - join a group as they tend to judge on the merit of what they see on track.

You asked why some people would require headsets. I gave a bunch of reasons that I am aware of why some people really like having them and really like playing with only those that do. I'm sure there are others.

I personally don't mind either way. In fact, I somewhat agree with you. I have one but often don't use it. I just want to drive the car and not always carry on a conversation with a bunch of people I don't know, who are often yammering on endlessly about things unrelated to the racing that I could care less about. Not that I don't quite enjoy it once in a while in a nice room with some friends.

Voice chat was a little less annoying with games that only had a few people in a room, but once you get over 8-10 it can be incredibly irritating... and there's always one moron with the TV turned way up so "they" can hear it over the race.

Hey guys, I really want to know what you guys think. I'm 13 and LOVE GT5 and play it daily. I have 310 cars, level 37 a-spec, and level 40 b-spec. I'm getting annoyed when I go into rooms because I get kicked sometimes because of my age. Sometimes people ask everyones age and why lie? I say my real age then everyone complains and i get kicked. I'm a very good driver, I race clean, fair, and I NEVER use assist.... So what do you guys think of kids and younger teens playing? P.S. I'm willing to race you if you dont believe all that stuff! :) PSN: rap129

Hey! I'm 13 and saturday is my B-Day and I have this problem alot. Everyone is like 80 years old and I smoke them then they realize I'm only 13 and they kick me saying, "No kids alowed!" or something like that.

I'm nearly 17 have my own GT5 Youtube Channel, a full racing rig, and am a very regular player, the other day I just hit 1000 cars, I've been a car fan since birth, basically. 👍:sly:

Same here. I have over 500 HotWheels cause I would collect them because of my car passoin. Its part of my family blood.

Oh, so you're like a Chapparal 2J then.

Its funny how changing the order of two words can change the meaning of a whole sentence. :)

i never played in a room where people asked ages, im almost 17 now, and I drive clean&fair.
as a player who first started playing GT series at an age of 5, and started taking driving sims seriously at an age of 12(by using a wheel and stuff), I can say that age doesnt matter as long as a player drives clean and obeys the rules

If you can race (clean) then there should be no problem. If people ask for your age, say your older than you really are. There's no way for them to find out.

Hmm, I am 15 however I played couple of simulators and had a real-life karting experience. I couldn't find a decent servers in GT5 lately so I host Shuffle Races with Penalty and no boost. Turning on Penalty will prevent drivers from racing dirty maybe that would prevent "kids" from ruining your race.

If you have trouble with horrid drivers recently just find a Shuffle Race with the penalty present. You do not want to join a "D1rty Shufflin" server :P

They say the cars choose their drivers, right?

These statements confuse me, seeing as how in your Volks Wageon Jetta thread you posted this statement...
Thats why I want one. My wife drives one and it just seems cool to have one in GT5.

Either you marry quite young in SD, or you have an issue with being truthful. I know we all hide behind our computers on the web, but why the useless lying?

lmao ^^^^

Not literally, but it's worthy of it.

Welcome to GTP!

You can, also, look for rooms that have damage on, whether it's light or heavy.

Thanks for the warm welcome.

Also I thought the song in the pre-race/online menu is a coincidence (PNAU - Baby [Breakbot Remix])

IMO, these days kids tend to be better at videos games than adults are. Depending on the age of the adult, of course. I'm 42 and my oldest kid (10) can kick my ass at most of them. If he played GT5 as much as I do, then he'd kick my ass at ALL of them, lol.

The reason is, he's growing up with video games whereas I didn't. It's a massive part of his life. Someone in their 20s or 30s might be a bit different situation now though. They would've also grown up with them.

I guess what I'm trying to get across is, if getting booted from rooms gets to you, then make your own with your own rules to suit your play style. If you want to use a mic, go ahead. If people are so biased as to leave that room simply for the fact you're a kid, then so be it. Chances are they're not worth racing against anyways.

^ Mate it's our reactions slowing down that's all.

These kids wouldn't live with you in your prime. Games were a lot harder back in the day.

Manic miner anyone ?

Seems you are a victim of stereotyping, due to other younger drivers unpolished racing styles. It was suggested to me to try Online competitions, so maybe it could help you too when searching for good racing lobbies that dont kick you out because of your age. good luck bro.
