Yeah...coming in close to the end worked out ok for me, too. I might have a just few more ponies under the hood next race!

Not sure how much different my car will be. I think i need some power...but i dont know how it will handle on softer tires.

Did anyone grab the replay of the 5 lap rain race? That was insane....35 laps like that wouldve been hilarious!

Yep, I saved it.

I slacked on my photo duties from trial mountain, but will have pics up from there and Suzuka (dry and rain) up sometime.

Hopefully before the next race, anyway... 👍

I did. I wanted to see everyone's fastest lap. The rain was only five laps, but other than running into Dabney's boat when he spun around, I didn't wreck myself.

I imagine I wasn't particularly fast.

Any chance you could export/zip it up and send it my way, or post it here?

I think I was pretty quick.. Ended up 6 seconds off the leader at the end, and was much more than that thru the race.

I'm curious to see some of the crazy near misses early on between me and geezer, and that part where dabney spun around as we came thru.

I've updated the standings. If your sheet has the race 5 winnings listed, then I was able to review your car, and you can unshare it. If you haven't shared your car, please do so.

The leaders (except for me) were goofing off and typing during the race.

Man, I'm looking at the standings and trying to gauge who I can possibly be quicker than next week. I spent some time racing along side Geezer and Miata to know that my winnings from last week will not bring me up to speed with them unless I can gain time in the corners. Even catching Bowtie might be a stretch because I simply don't have any mods to install that will skyrocket my power to a competitive level.

Sl3ight will likely be on a different pit schedule than me so i really have no idea how fast his car is. If I can finish ahead of him at Monaco, he will have to win le Sarthe to take the championship. If I don't, there is a good chance he'll get enough points between the two races for a come from behind championship win.

Basically I need a great finish at Monaco to stay ahead. My car has got to be the slowest straight line performer in the series by now and everyone that has been struggling with turns and brake zones will have no trouble blowing past me on the mulsanne at le sarthe. If everyone shows up, I'm probably looking at 5, maybe 6 points on the final race.

It all comes down to tire wear sl3ight. Choose your pit stops wisely!

I think it is pretty awesome that the points really aren't too far apart and there are several candidates for winning the points championships.

I would like it if the cars were closer during the race, but... clearly, I'm not good a driving under the pressure (yet), and these are 90 minute races. The only reason IRL and NASCAR have big groups for that long is because of pace cars.

Again, I'm eager for next season. I must must must must keep from wrecking myself.

Yeah, I think I could have kept up with a few other cars if there were some full-course cautions. it would be really cool if the game implemented them by re-gridding and allowing drivers to sacrifice their restart position for a caution lap pit stop.

I understand bowtie. You stopped to wait for him...and you even gave him quite a head start.

I think the two of us could have run that close through that turn (and we may have while I was following you)...but we are quick and precise drivers. Others, I hate to say it, still can't figure out the braking zones and proper lines even after 35 laps.

As I feel I resemble this remark a bit, I'd love a chance to interject.

As this is the first GT5 organized competition I've done, its a bit of a learning curve. The idea and execution are excellent, and different from the A-spec grind of "take fast car, whoop CPU drivers easily". Also, although I am an accomplished Forza player, the leap to GT5 has been a bit more awkward than expected. Its amazing how different the two games are in both content and driving feel, even though they are both "simulations". Also compounding this is a new G27 wheel (makes the MS Wheel seem like a Wii wheel), and a lack of experience in GT5 Endurance style racing.

I've had to turn down my FFB settings since doing this series, the arm strain was incredible (and I work for the Railroad!). I may even turn it down again to reduce my shudder during hard racing (a small bump causes the wheel to jerk quite a bit). Also, the effects of tire wear are still a learning curve for me. Its amazing how drastic the grip can drop off sometimes.

Yeah, honestly GT5 is still strange to me. At one point on Forza, with the MS Wheel, I was consistently in the top 200 racers, every track. Due to lack of playtime, and returing to a controller (MS Wheels SUCK!), this dropped down to top 500 (still respectable!). GT5 though is a different beast.

Also, I have no "braking line only" assist option in GT5 (my only Forza crutch, I used it a a "g-meter" of sorts) and I refuse to use full racing line. My 33 year old eyes aren't what they used to be, and braking points have a tendency to shift due to conditions.

End rambling rant. Get off my lawn, etc, etc....

Thanks for leaving me off this post. I love sneaking up on people :D A first place finish and I'm back in this. I'm sharing my car now because I'm slow. In the rain, I ran 2:40.xxx

So....anyone have it zipped/online ?

There is still a possibility you'll beat me in points...but it would involve me finishing poorly for the next two races...and I think I have a chance of doing pretty well at Monaco. Not a top 3, but I should pull off a top 5 if I keep it clean. Even if I don't, I'm going to at least get 10 more points this season which means you need 32 points to beat me. That's two 2nd place finishes or a 1st and a 3rd. You can probably get that done...but I doubt I'm going to place 10th or lower in the next two races.

Garris finds the shortcut

I think that is the access road beyond the beach at the large pair of left-handers before the back straight. I thought the access road would be faster than driving through the beach.

It runs into a wall.

As for Monaco, if you find yourself behind the red Talon, be warned! I will brake early, and I will not cut the chicane. I might run the hood view instead of the bumper view just so I don't get anxious with cars behind me (no rear view mirror).

I hope to be on tonight. If I am, and anyone wants to join me, I'll probably do little five lap sprints with reverse grid, just so we can practice following and passing (or rather, so I can practice being followed and passed).

I'll give a shout-out whenever I'm near you and attempting to make a pass. Hood cam is actually helpful on this track because there are some walls you need to get up close and personal with, and bumper cam just doesn't tell you where the corners of your car are. I thought about putting some tape on my TV as guidelines so I could cut in real close to that final turn.

Everyone with microphones, please give a shout-out if you get in an accident. We don't have a yellow flag system so if you get stuck on a wall at the chicane it would be nice to just give a hollar so another car coming down the hill at full speed doesn't ram into you.

And regarding the chicane... 2 wheels must remain on the left side of the rumble strip. To do this properly, you've got to brake earlier than you think. If you are in a habit of driving straight through it, I suggest you practice first keeping all 4 wheels off the rumble strip followed by just 2 wheels on the rumble strip.

Maybe this week we can keep the singing and chatter and such down so we can all focus on not wrecking. Yes, I could turn the chatter down, but then I'd miss anything important, like someone communicating trying to pass me, or someone telling me they've stuffed it just beyond the corner.

Working on it.

Need to find a free site to post the 20MB file. :scared:

Found one! Download Here!

Got it! Thanks. I should figure out how to make my web-space available for this kind of thing..need to have an open-up/download widget somewhere around here..

Jeez...I'm just *barely* holding on there! Nice shot :)

And I'm a HUGE +1 on keeping the chatter down... it usually does die off eventually, but for some reason last week was noisier than usual.

PS: Double Post.

I chatter tuesdays to make up for having my mic off on Wednesdays :sly:

Lol, the chatter was up because we were having a good time. Unfortunately I drive terrible when I'm not talking, because it makes me overthink corners. But, I'll shut up this week, or you all can mute me. XD, but seriously, we could just mute those who chat a lot, until the race is over. Would make it easier on people.

Don't forget to share your car if you haven't. If you look at your tab on the standings spreadsheet and you don't have the Race 5 Winnings posted, then I haven't reviewed your car.

Diabolic, you spent too much before Race 5. I can't really complain because you put on the engine limiter with the intention of sandbagging. What that means though, is you have less than 20,000 to spend at this point (you were 950 Cr. over). Double check, please.

I will definately check. I didnt make any changes aside from suspension. You charged me for the window weight reduction, but thats been on the car since the preseason race.

To this point I have spent 40,550 and I've won 42,500. I spent most of my pre race determining if I was doing the suspension or both manifolds. I should have 21,950 to spend I believe. I promise I'm not here to cheat. I had no intention of placing that last race...I certainly would not spend money on window replacement at this stage (or ever if I had to pay for it) when I'm saving for engine tuning 2.

In Soviet Russia, Engine Tuning 2 saves you.

Just thought I'd put that out there.....

My car didnt change, as i had nothing to spend. If you need me to share it i will, but most likely i'll be picking parts for it the next time i login.

That explains it. I'll update that.

We are good.

My Internet is broke, and will remain broke until Tuesday. I'm still planning on making this race, because I'm third in points.

I'll try to get you parts list before Tuesday, but if I can't I'll send it as soon as I can on Tuesday.

Not spending any moneys this week. Saving for when I'll need it.
