I've been trying to eat a bit healthier lately. Which means a lot of chicken. grilled Chicken breasts are slowly starting to be my favorite. Really good stuff.

What were you eating before? McDonalds?

Any of the Brits have any special tips for pancakes? Was going to make some Tuesday but didn't have any flour :(

And I don't mean big thick American pancakes.

Nope! If this food thread isn't on in more than 4 year, there probably won't be a food thread.

Hot, sexy, Hot Pocket fights...
If I wasn't a tidy sig member that would so be in my sig.

It might not be a recipe, but:

Put a few scoops of any flavor of sherbet (I like orange) and some tropical "Naturaly flavored sparkling water beverage" to make a float. After you drink most of it, the liquid will be the color of the sherbet you put in, and it would be a sort of sludgy orange stuff (edible, luckily) Pour more of the sparkling water in it, and you get cool orange foam that tastes just like the sherbet. :D

Also, what's cool is that when you first pour the drink in, the sherbet gets all crystalized on the outside. It tastes really cool. :D

I just started the prep work for Coq au Vin. I did the sweating of the mirepoix, floured and fried the chicken pieces, sautéed the mushrooms, pearl onions and salted pork cubes and deglazed the pan leavings with some Pinot and all are aging nicely in the fridge. A lot of work to not get to eat anything.

Though, I had two plain baked potatoes for dinner. That's right; plain. No butter, no sour cream, no cheese; nothing. If you bake a potato correctly, you don't need all that stuff.

grilled chicken's alot healthier than a burger.

Apples and oranges. sirloin tips are a lot healthier than chicken mcnuggets.

Solid, my mom makes an awesome coq au vin too.

Does she use a real ****? I don't. I just use chicken thighs and legs. My kids love those parts the best. Sometimes, I just use the legs.

I know, only using a real old **** or capon is the only "proper" way to go for flavor, but my meat man always has trouble finding one and when he does, he wants too much for it. Plus a whole package of chicken legs are super cheap and convenient, anyway.

EDIT: Stupid filter. You cannot post ****.

Nah, we just use a Purdue roaster chicken or something. It also comes out really good with white wine instead of red too.

Okay, I just made a pizza, so I figured I'd post it in here for the hell of it:

You'll need:
Dough (I used pillsbury pizza dough just for convenience.)
Cooking spray
Olive Oil
Crushed Tomatoes
Mozzarella
Parmesan
Oregano
Basil
Salt

It'd be a lot easier to just get an italian seasoning thing to have in your cabinet. Seperate Basil is recommended, though.

You'll want to spread the dough out on a cooking-sprayed cookie sheet as pillsbury recommends. You need to spread it thin so it will bake crunchy. Once you have the dough spread out, brush a thin coat of olive oil on top. If you don't have a brush, use a spoon. The spoon makes it very easy to over-oil, though, so, be careful.
Once you're done with that step, take a fork and poke the dough all over so air can escape when baking. One time, I had a giant air bubble form underneath my dough and it made all the oil drip to the corners. It was pretty funny. When you've dotted the dough with holes, you might want to preseason the dough with your italian seasoning. Use a very very small amount of seasoning if you do so.

Bake the dough until it just starts to turn golden. This will take about 5 minutes in a 400 degree oven. Wait the 5 minutes and then watch for its color. If it's not cooked enough, it still might be too soft for the next steps.

Take the now pre-cooked crust out, and then take your crushed tomatoes and spread 3 or 4 heaping tablespoons of them onto the crust. You can be a bit generous with the sauce, but too much makes eating the pizza a pain in the ass. Once the crushed tomato sauce is spread, take your seasoning and give a few dashes all around. If you have straight up oregano, only use a little bit. Too much oregano makes things bitter. Add some basil too. Taste the parmesan and the tomato sauce and, depending on how salty they are, distribute a pinch to a tiny pinch of salt around the pizza. Now sprinkle on the parmesan. Finally, throw on some mozzarella. Your amount of mozzarella should be balanced with the tomato sauce. The perfect pizza has perfect balance among ingredients while still recognizing the bread as king.

Finally, throw it in the oven at 400deg again for 8 to 10 minutes until the cheese starts to golden.

Take that sucker out, throw another touch of basil (fresh preferably) on top, cut it up, and BASK IN THE GLORY OF THE MP PIZZA.

My dad just made the best nachos ever. They had a little of tomato, refried beans, onions, cheese, and peppers on each one. 👍

Would you have to crush tomatoes by hand or do supermarkets sell them?

No, crushed tomatoes are in stores. Usually, there will be cans of tomato sauce (avoid at all costs), whole tomatoes, crushed tomatoes, and tomato puree.

Crushed tomatoes are just the tomatoes, whereas sauces have all kinds of other stuff in them.

OM NOM NOM I WANT SOME

I just ate entirely too many mini corn dogs.

Many mini. That's funny.

Today has been awesome from a health point of view. Party last night, wake up at my friends place - breakfast: microwave pizza, lunch: Chicken BLT menu at BK and just now, a whole 200g pack of chocolate downed with some Vanilla Coke.

Needless to say, I feel like crap.

So I tried to make a French Omelette the other day. Needless to say it tasted brilliant

I made a quick dinner last night.

1 Box of pasta shells (could have actually used another box, or at least half of one to improve the beef:shells ratio)
2 Jars of Roasted Red Pepper Alfredo Sauce
3.5 Pounds of 85/15 ground angus beef

Excellent dinner that was ready in 15 minutes. Beat that Rachel Ray.

Well yeah it sort of went front when I tried folding the sides in. It, well, fell apart. So I basically wents havoc on it and voila, scrambled egg with cheese, ham and peas.

Okay, I came in here to talk about some food nostalgia, but I saw my post at the top of the page and just thought I'd add this picture...

That's how it looks when you make your own dough and have toppings. :D

Anyway, does anyone remember Squeezits and Dunkaroos? Man, I would kill for some Dunkaroos right about now. Anyone else have some food nostalgia?

Dunkaroos are the shiz, man. I try to pick them up at least once when Sam's Club has them.

I bet no one knows how to make Pho

what do you call scambled eggs with soy sauce, hot dog, and rice?

You call it the Asian bachelor's everyday meal. Speaking of which, you seriously need to show me how to cook rice tomorrow.

Yeah, I think I'm gonna buy some chocolate icing and a box of Teddy Grahams for some satisfaction.

Too bad you're too young for Space Food Sticks or Chef Boyardee Spaghetti Sauce (1,000,000 times better than the crap-spaghetti in can they sell) and a spiced apple soda called Aspen.

3 weeks of Uni and i haven't wasted away yet! I'm nearly through my 3Kg bag of pasta though and my fridge is full of frozen meat (mostly sauages and chicken breast. Abit of scampi, and gammon steak and salmon).

And so far carbs are coming from potatoes, rice and, you guessed it, pasta! Veg = Frozen peas :D

Depends on what "stage" you're in currently

If you already know the basics, it's a matter of trying out new things, as you're mainly aware of what goes with what, what not to mix, what needs to be put in small quantities (as to not overpower the entire cooking), and stuff like that.

You'll get better as you go along. 👍
