I can't tell you how much I hate Paul McCartney.. I mean, I never liked the Beatles, but you just kind of put up with the hype.. but seriously he did a rubbish job at the queens Jubilee and if the pinnacle of British music was "Nah Nah Nah Nah Nah Nah Nah Nah Nah Nah Nah Nah Nah, Hey Juuudeeee..." then I'm gonna get rid of all the British acts from my CD collection and replace them all with "No No No No No No No No No No No No There's no Limits!" - musically it's the same as Hey Jude.. but she was better looking than Paul McCartney.

Seriously... should just have finished with this, it totally rocked at this point:

What on earth were they thinking getting McCartney on to play Hey Jude? I guess they were going for the crowd-singalong aspect...would have been better off getting Queen on.
Queen playing We Will Rock You and Bicycle Race would have been far better. :D

Why not Elton, he can get a crowd going far better than any of the Live acts tonight.. I'm not even a fan of his, but he does what he does well.. better than the Frickin Arctic Chimps..

also, unless there's a new internet rule, I don't have to match the talent of those I criticize in order to have an opinion. McCartney is past it, it might be a nice idea, but seriously, It's like what watching Sir Stirling Moss compete in a Modern F1 car would be like... fascinating idea, but somebodies going to die.

I enjoyed it. I was laughing loads at the Bond and Bean bits. Floyd and the torch rocked.
 
Nice ceremony, was hoping for Beckham kicking a flaming football into the Cauldron though.

Hate the French-English thing. It should be the home language, where ever the Olympics are held, and then French in my opinion.

Eh, get Rob Halford to sing, he's a pretty close substitute...

In fact, Judas Priest playing "United" would have made a lot more sense, though they're no where near as popular or well known enough.

My general feeling was it was great until that dancing segment about an hour in then the rest was totally disjointed and pretty poor. Not happy that randomers lit the flame either.

Definitely the highlights for me were the Industrial Revolution, Bean, Bond and Beck's on the speedboat. Beijing for me still holds the title as most spectacular and I think only a future emerging nations can out do it (by throwing billions and billions at it!) like maybe Rio.

I thought Robbie Williams would be involved somewhere with the music too... I guess it comes down to Money maybe?

Not shown was the Queen sitting only a few feet behind him!

First Olympic opening iv watched in entirety so I can't really compare. Thought it was great anyhow, maybe the lost Iphone sketch went on a little too long.

Disappointingly our national TV broadcast left out showing a few countries entirely (Japan and Palestine significantly) just to show our team cocking about...

I completely forgot that the Olympics ceremony was tonight. If I had known, I would have cracked opened a few beers and found some place to watch it.

Btw, who is that Nazi guy? And why is Boris and Camilla watching him like that?

Not a true Nazi salute as its the left arm. Still very borderline behaviour though.

Glad you guys are enjoying the ceremonies. In the US Meredith Viera and Matt Lauer are talking over everything and we're getting commercials every 10 minutes.

Wait until you get to the parade. If it's anything like the stream I was watching live, they will stop to give a rundown of every atrocity committed in the country being currently shown since the last Olympics every time there is a pretext to do so.




And my god I wanted to slap the woman for the awful puns she kept making ("They are the world's largest producer of diamonds, and they sure have a gem on their team this year!").

You'll have to Google him, but as I was watching for our men's basketball team, I was able to instantly spot Anthony Davidson. That unibrow is impossible to miss. :lol:
 
Does anybody else think that the Opening Ceremony of the 2016 Games will feature Bruno Senna driving a McLaren MP4/4 into the Olympic Stadium as part of the opening ceremony? If the Senna documentary is to be believed – and I see no reason why it shouldn’t be – a big part of Ayrton’s popularity in his home country had to do with his success on the international stage when his country was a military dictatorship. Even if motorsport isn’t an Olympic discipline, I don’t think it’s something the Brazilians should (or would) overlook.

That's better than what we got - the athletes' parade was about two hours of commentators picking out the athletes that would be in direct competition with the Australians, and then trying to make out that those athletes would not be any real threat to Australia's medal chances, even when those atheltes were favourites for medals.
 
I felt bad that NBC almost skipped Uzbekistan while showing all of our star athletes, although they had a rather drab choice of uniform :lol:.

I also Davis immediately and commented, "He's having a pretty good year." James Harden's beard was impossible to miss, as well as the never-retiring pair of Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh.

Since I read that the torch lighting is less than interesting, I'll save my energy to catch the soccer game versus Colombia in the morning :).

It's almost like he's saying "Come on, escorting the Queen? That's hardly the kind of action-packed stuff I usually do" :lol:
 
I know I'm a bit behind every else watching the opening ceremony... But the announcers on NBC make me want to punch myself...

Edit: In other news, Rowan Atkinson is awesome.
