Uhh, a Lunar Rover is just already fully model with weird astronaut uniform?

Sailor Moon cosplay

. If all we can do in the game is drive it on a portion of the moon it's going to be rather pointless .

Wax on

Well I've said my piece on this, I can't be bothered continuing. Suffice to say I think this is a ridiculous waste of time.

Wax off

I can see in the future, the Moon will be a favorite photo travel location, with it's unique lighting and environment :) Imagine a white candy Veyron on the surface of the Moon, posing with the driver wearing astronaut suit

That's no moon.

Exactly. But what's the audience for a Lunar Rover?

It's a space station

What are you, 13? Grow up.

Haha. Turn 10

If the Lunar Rover means the next step is the inclusion of Anakin Skywalker's pod racer, then I support PD 110%!

Pod racing was a long time ago.

Not sure how much trolling you can do at 8mph on metal wheels.

To infinity and beyond

I hope there'll be a moon DLC...

It's a trap

How would not modelling the Lunar Rover have helped any of those? Do you really want PD to give the task of updating all the sounds in the game to the guy that models cars for a living instead of getting somebody with a background in sound design?

Who did the sounds for the Lunar Rover? Or will it have no sounds, operating in a complete vacuum?

There's no sound on the moon, rover won't make sound when driven on the moon, unlike Hollywood interpretation of space - Gravity is the latest example, 21st century and still space movies have sound on them .... outer space = vacuum = mute/no sound. If that movie won special effect nomination, then damn :D

Well, at least, we got a car that no one could complain about the accuracy of the sounds.

Exactly. But what's the audience for a Lunar Rover?

I am. And mind you, I'm a very pessimistic GT fan.

I think that it's cool, put a smile on my face. Is a little bit weird, like japanese games always are, and gaming, IMO, is about fun. Even if takes 2000 years, I'll drive this thing around Nordschleife. And this is the kind of stuff that people will do with It: get fun.

And I don't mind a lunar rover and the moon to rovering about. Bring it on, PD.

In the other hand, if the game turns out to be another kind of GT5, than I'll be nuts and very disappointed. Even with this lunar rover, because it'll be yet another example of PD's ability to spent inordinate efforts and men hours in something that really don't add up anything good to the game that should have more racing cars, livery editor, sounds, and etc.

But until my pessimistic impressions get confirm, or not, I look to the moon thing with a smile in my face.

Moon Rover, wider than a mile,
I'm crossing you in style some day.
Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker,
wherever you're going I'm going your way.
Two drifters off to see the world.
There's such a lot of world to see.
We're after the same rainbow's end--
waiting 'round the bend,
my huckleberry friend,
Moon Rover and me.

No he didn't

You obviously missed the point too so I'll elaborate. PD have spent a lot of time on features like solar modelling, new cars (including the lunar roving vehicle), Ayrton Senna content etc. but somehow have been unable to complete core features that fans have been crying out for since GT5 was released, i.e. a new sound model, improved AI, no "standard" cars and more current cars and manufacturers.

So my point is that PD have spent time developing gimmicky addon material instead of focusing on the core gameplay aspects that were lacking in GT5. Obviously modelling the lunar roaming vehicle alone did not prevent them from developing these aspects of the game, the point is that time was spent on pointless addons when it could (should?) have been spent on other things which, if you read any of the threads in this forum, are unanimously considered to be far more important.

Anyway that's just my opinion, and if you're excited by the lunar roaming vehicle then I've got nothing against that

What are you talking about its dope. Probably the most awesome car in GT6.

That you'll drive 3 times and forget about.

Yes it's off-beat and exotic, a real "first" for gaming and an incredable addition to Kaz's encyclopedia of cars. And a complete waste of resources.

... And a complete waste of resources.

It’s not like they sent a full team laser scanning Mare Tranquillitatis.

Aside from the vehicle particularities that justifies its inclusion to the game, it is quite “media-friendly” and will likely grab some attention from the broader audience the game is looking for.

If any, PD’s personal involved in messing with low gravity physics figured out some solutions to tune on earth in race jumps who undoubtedly would benefit from some form of polishing.

I hope there'll be a moon DLC...
I hope it will be included in the game on day one as they are showing a trailer of it.
Don't ask to pay for something... You might be giving PD "ideas".

I have to side with @ussr, I'd much rather a performance vehicle, like a Koenigsegg, over this LRV in a racing game.

The only 'historical' car in any GT I enjoyed is the Model T in GT4, and that was because you could drift it stock around the tight-bend at that tiny-🤬 oval course from 'Test-Track'.

I just had to do this edited version as soon as I saw the trailer. It won't work in some countries because of copyright restrictions I believe but I couldn't not use the Moonraker theme. It just wouldn't have been right... :p

I hope this gives someone here at least a brief moment of entertainment. Personally, I don't think we'll be able to drive this except on some kind of Seasonal Event (i.e. I don't think you will be able to drive it round Nurburgring in Arcade Mode), but I'd love it if we could. Although on the Nurburgring I might have to leave it to B Spec Bob or i'll fall asleep in the middle of the lap

Personally, for me, I love the inclusion of this vehicle, even if there is only one event for it I will be playing it regularly whenever I want some "wow factor" from GT6 as, to me, this will never get old.

But i know lots of people think the opposite and are entitled to their own opinion. Please be gentle with me

Suppose it is in there after gaining popularity from a Top Gear episode?

So those moon men astronauts seem to have as much life as a lego people. Also I guess PD needed to take it a step further after the Samba Bus race.

Yes, i'm sure they could have fixed all of the sounds, AI, and damage modeling to perfection by not modeling a Lunar Rover

That was not the point being made. The point being made was that the gameplay issues that continue to be problematic for GT are not addressed because PD would rather invest time and resources into features not integral to the gameplay. The inclusion of the Lunar Rover is one such example.

I'm pretty sure the Lunar Rover fulfils those criteria for some people. Is it the largest possible group of people? No. But it's dangerous, creatively speaking, to try to singularly go after what is effectively the "lowest common denominator" in that manner.

I see your point, but I think the line has to be drawn for vehicles like this. When I bought GT4 I was enthusiastic about trying the Benz and Daimler vehicles, but the novelty wore off within 5 minutes and I never touched them again. I feel that vehicles with such limited utility like the Lunar Rovers will be the same for the vast majority of people playing the game. I think it is best to agree to disagree on this issue.

Having lots of cars (content in general) that cater better for the billions of niches will add up to a larger group on its own. If "focus" in the car selection is what you want, this has never been the game for it.

Competitive AI is also what I want, and GT hasn't been the game for that either. That does not mean I would not like to see it addressed in future GT releases.

I simply can't go against this crazy thing.

You should never doubt PD's ability to dedicate an inordinate amount of resources to stuff that doesn't matter,
while ignoring the astronomical list of things that people are complaining about in the last six years.

I think this lunacy is... very cool in this case.

I even thik that the Lunar Rover is way better than that Red Bull prototype, as far crazyness and over the top cars goes. It is real, it is the only car that has been driven by humans outside Earth and It makes me smile.

Awesome stuff.

Imagine having A Ferrari 250 GTO, a Renault R8 Gordini and a Lunar Rover sharing a garage.

A real collector's gem.

I agree to a degree. But I think cars like this serve as a beacon: this is the kind of game this is, adjust your expectations accordingly.
You have to realise that PD have at the same time catered to those asking for GT3 cars, which is more traditional sim territory (which is currently heavily en vogue, for some weird reason; I'm going with Amar's "Real Deal Joes", personally) - quite how that's implemented in the game we don't know, and I wouldn't expect too much. It's not a race-day sim, but sandbox elements may help us to bend it that way.

In fact, that's how this game should be viewed: an automotive playground. "Automotive" does not begin and end at one person's concept of it, no matter how much they claim to be in the majority (as if that actually counts for anything outside of the potential greed of the developer / publisher), they will always be a minority in some other sense. A game isn't something of exceptional practical utility, and one of the highlights of videogaming through its brief history has been its ability to expose and satisfy niches, not just the mainstream (which is always being diverted anyway, usually by the next new thing that probably started as a niche...)

Competitive AI is also what I want, and GT hasn't been the game for that either. That does not mean I would not like to see it addressed in future GT releases.

No, but it is on the mission statement, to a degree. It is something that fits in with the progression of the series, as PD have been slowly / steadily working towards it. Their general approach appears to be to explore new areas first and try something different - some people like that, some people don't. I think it's important to have such developmental diversity in the genre, because it allows cross-pollination and sharing the burden of innovation collectively.

PD have said that the next game is getting improved AI (again). I'm looking for small improvements, because history, but we'll see.

I hope there'll be a moon DLC...
That would be awesome! I wonder if PD will start experimenting with sandbox style maps, that would be great for online free run lobbies!

Because sound in combination with vacuum makes sooooooooooooooooooooooooo much sense.

Well, I don't think there has ever been a combustion engine that isn't a vacuum. Or if you prefer, they create and rely on vacuum to operate.

I hope it will be as exciting as this! Imagine the lunar rover climbing the raidillon :D
