"My car" for the most part is a car. I don't spend my life plugged into a black box and a TV screen. Don't know about you.

Well low and behold, I'm the one who finds the car that doesn't follow the pattern. I just won the C-West Razo Silvia and started testing it out and found the fuel cutoff is a little higher than one and a half bars into the redline. But here is the funny part, it doest display the shift light untill you are a little more than half way into the first red bar, which makes me think this is an anomaly, or error on the programers part.

Oh and Zev, when you use NA upgrade the rev limitter raises. The Z Concept's limiter is the 2nd black mark in the rev limiter I believe.

There are very few cars in the game that will not let you rev past redline, but if they *do* stop at redline I put an auto tranny in it.

One thing I've noticed about the auto in the game is that it will kick down too late sometimes and miss the powerband for the lower gear, this is slightly annoying but the cars that stop at redline aren't usually extremely fast, so I'm not worried about setting any records with them. (Not that I *could* set any records... except on AL All Japanese Apricot Hill I got 1st place time by a minute over whoever at GT3 Times, but I didn't save the replay, just wrote down my time so I didn't submit it, since I can't prove it... maybe I should re-run the race and save the replay... hmmm...)

And I HATE DRIVING AUTOMATICS IRL. I have never had an automatic that I drove often, so automatic just feels wrong to me. Only thing I can see putting an auto in is a big truck you use for hauling trailers (like... a dakota, ram, etc) and minivans. But in like little mazda pickups I prefer manual to automatic.

And here's an example of why manual will is so much better than automatic:

My friend and I had the EXACT same car. '86 Toyota Camry. They were EXACT, the keys were even interchangeable (saved him from getting locked out of his car a few times). Mine had 190k miles on it, his had 130k miles (we've both gotten newer cars now he got a '98 Altima - manual, our testing convinced him - and I got a '94 Civic... or I'm getting... as soon as I get my D/L unsuspended)

His camry was auto, and mine was manual, we did a few tests.

We drag raced them, and mine beat him from stoplight to stoplight (aprox. 1/4 mile) by about 10 car lengths.

My top-end was 15 MPH faster on the highway, and he was drafting me until I pulled outta range

And his was actually a *better* car, in that it had a lot less miles on it, and it didn't start to shake at 65 mph (the shake in mine went away at ~90, and came back at 105, and went away again at 120, and fastest I ever got it was 130, with a LOT of tailwind... prolly 20-30 MPH tailwind)

So I will FOREVER prefer manual to automatic. And I've been driving a manual for so long that I can drink/eat/smoke with no problems going through town having to shift every light. (French fries w/ ketchup is a challenge, but can be done 8-P)

That's my opinion on the issue of manuals and automatic transmissions, in the game and IRL. Manual is always better. (And more fun to drive.)

Edit: My opinion is bias though, as I've always had a stickshift in the cars I've driven frequently. (They weren't my cars, they were my dad's but I drove them every day, whereas he drove them like 5 times total, so I can't claim that I have never "owned" anything other than manual because I've never owned a car, not until the 28th when I get my D/L back.)

And the first thing I ever drove was a Mazda pickup that had a manual. And before that I rode motorcycles which are manual, and since then all I've driven with automatic is Dodge Caravans, Dodge Dakotas and Rams, and my friend's '86 Camry.

Hm... that post was a lot longer than I intended it to be, especially w/ the edit... oh well... all of my opinions are formulated from all of my experience... and I seem to have more experience than most other 18 yo's, I've noticed.

Not really seeing a minute off any of those times... Maybe the 4WD is the most attackable, if you had the Escudo and could drive it (Escudo fastest lap 1'02.154, so a possible 5'17) but a minute off is out of the question.

Good job you didn't submit really as the database sharks would be on you in a flash...

I noticed the rev limiter problem with other cars that have the engine balance modification applied also, happened right after I left when I tuned up an FTO. But I would be really interested to find out what cars don't follow the pattern stock, because that's the only place where I think the pattern is shown with any consistancy. Even if you get a race version car, if you don't perform the engine balancing (which I don't think you can do on any race version cars anyway), the fuel cutoff still cuts in at the same place. Also there could be a pattern with cars that have the redline reset, but that is just speculation (so far just my FTO and your Z concept are doing the second bar cutoff).

Famine:
Okay, it wasn't a minute, but a reasonable amount (~30 seconds I believe), and it was FR (Denso Supra is what I was using, and it had 1400 miles on it and needed an oil change). I'll have to find the paper I wrote it down on and see what the time is, it was enough to where my eyes nearly popped outta my skull and I think I **** myself, and i KNOW i kicked myself for not saving the replay. And Apricot isn't a track you can cut corners on or ride walls, so I *know* i didn't beat them that way. (I have a tendency to do that on a few tracks if I don't feel like running a real race or posting the time on GT3 Times)

and just a side-note: I haven't been able to come within 30 seconds on any other races I've run (that I've checked anyway) so this really surprised me that I was able to beat the top time by more than just a few seconds.

And Famine, since I know you're a trusted member over at GT3 Times, I was curious if you could clarify a rule for me:
INADVERTANT wall contact or off-track excursions are allowed, they musn't happen often enough to be suspicious. Obviously this is a judgement call, but once the same part of a wall is hit several times during a race, or same part of the course is slightly cut, that leads one to believe the contact or cut was intentional. Obvious huge hits or cuts won't fly. You have to have tried to avoid it, slamming the wall at full throttle or blatently cutting across a chicane is obviously not trying to stay on track.

On Apricot, if I go into the final chicane on the wrong line, and I have to cut the corner off the second part of the chicane to keep out of the grass coming out, and I do this only once in the race, is this allowed?

I don't know for sure if in this race that happened or not, but I know I do that sometimes if I swing too wide on the left hand sweeper just before the chicane. (Though I *do* try to keep from going wide, sometimes my tires are too worn or cold to do the things they normally do when they're warm, and I'm still trying to get a feel for what I can do with a certain amount of wear on the tires.)

Also, if there's one part on a track that I go into the grass, every damn time, but it doesn't give me better lap times, is that allowed?

Example: on Midfield reverse I believe it is, the slight right/left with sand on either side coming up on the last corner, if my car doesn't have front downforce I nearly always come out and hit the grass, and usually the wall. Would this be allowed? (The example is with my Z Concept, and I had to hit the line perfect to keep 2 wheels outta the grass if my tires were anything but green)

And if I don't get very high up the list, is it necessary to save my replay? I have been but... I'm lazy.

LOL - I just did the math, no wonder you raised your eyebrows, I'd have raised my eyebrows too lol... okay, here's the exact math:

Best Lap on Apricot w/ FR: 1'02.488 --------62.488 seconds

bobkart's Best Lap w/ FR: 1'04.153 --------64.153 seconds

bobkart's Best Race w/ FR: 5'43.089 -------343.089 seconds

bobkart's Average Lap: 1'08.617 ------68.617 seconds

so *if* i was running an average of perfect laps (I wasn't, no way in hell) It's possible to get 5'12.440 (312.440 seconds) on the race, which would put me 30.649 seconds ahead of bobkart. So even ~30 seconds isn't realistic, unless you're very liberal with the amount off you take "~" to mean. More like 5, maybe 10 seconds ahead is what I got.

5 seconds ahead= 1'07.6178 average laps
10 seconds = 1'06.6178 average
and minus 1 second per average lap per every 5 seconds under his time (why'd it take me 3 calculations to realize that... damn I need to brush up on my math skillz)

After doing the math I believe I either wrote down my time wrong, read it wrong (my TV is extremely fuzzy on the numbers and such, I have to squint to be sure of numbers often)

Anyway, yes, I am a moron for spouting my mouth off "like 1 minute under whoever at GT3 Times"... not only was I over-exaggerating (and I HATE it when people do that... so now I'm a hypocrite, and I HATE hypocrites, which makes me a double-bad hypocrite... damn...) - and most likely mistaken - but I also called bobkart "whoever"...

Smack me around and call me your b!tch please, I deserve it.

I am eternally sorry for my moronic comment specifically, and for my idiocy in general. Thank you for bringing my utter stupidity to my attention Famine. I try and keep my stupidity to a minimum, and would appreciate it if you bring any other brash comments to my attention so I can correct them to the best of my ability.

--The Moron

Edit: I just realized after posting that the best way to correct my folly is to re-run the race and then save the replay and record the time. So I will do this as soon as my brother gets off the PS2.

Except the chicane - the most cut corner in the entire game... :D

The first example is fine, the second is not.

On a hotlap - where you just submit a single lap time - you must be 100% clean. No offs, no wall-taps, no nothing.

On races there is a little more leeway. Accidentally cutting the chicane once at Apricot Hill in a 5 lap race is acceptable. We all make mistakes. But making the same mistake repeatedly isn't. We all have a blind spot on a certain tracks at a certain point, and running races you should take extra care at that point.

For what it's worth, I suggest taking the right earlier, onto the kerb on the right, giving you a flatter angle for the left.

And you're my b!tch... :D

I'm going to leave this thread open, but I have to say this is probably the single most-repeated question on this board.

Please take the time to search and add your comments to the end of an existing thread before you start a new one.

Thanks.

And I've gone and hijacked it... Whoops... :D

That's why I left it - because it had developed a new life of its own!

Ahhh, such is the beauty of evolution... Take that, Creationists! :D

I'll save the ship:

Manual. Tinkered with it in GT1, didn't like it. Got hooked in GT2, but still used Auto every so often. ALWAYS use Manual in GT3 - except today I've been using it on the A-7 test. Even in the Formula Cars I use manual. You can slow down faster, and you have more control of the car. Sometimes I don't WANT to upshift... uhhh...

i have never used auto, and never will!!!

actually i did once by accident:)

Famine, thank you for clearing that up. The assumptions I had made about the rule were pretty much dead-on, but I've learned that making assumptions is a good way to get you in trouble. (And sometimes, I LIKE getting in trouble lol... but not on GT3 Times)

I re-ran the AL All Japanese Championship in my Denso Supra, 6'05.447, which places me in 5th place under GT3Emperor with a 6'05.985 in the C5R.

1st lap was 1'17.xxx and all the others were 1'11.xxx... damn I'm slow.

I'd give ya the replay, but my grandma won't get off the computer down stairs... have to wait till she takes a nap... damn freecell junkie.

--Jaster

GT3Emperor - despite the silly name his kids gave him - is actually quite a useful man on the track. Beating him is not easy, so kudos :D

That said, don't diss Freecell, or I'll beat yo' ass. :D :D

It's funny, ever since I got my PSOne then PS2, I've always used the manual transmission in games, except the cheesy arcade ones. The two cars I've driven in life (I'm only 18) have both been manuals. I just feel more alert when I have to do the shifting. And it's good for drift racing in the game.

:banghead: I am stupid not to use manuals but IRL I like them you have more control over your motor and besides on GT3 you can clean house on the entire game with a automatic so unless you have golds in -Everything- why bother with *Don't quote me here.* perfecting a manual?

-Just a thought-

Thanks for the kudos, but let's be realistic, we were in different cars (mine being the faster) and i only beat him by a fraction of a second

Here's my replay, dunno if it's clean enough to submit to GT3Times, I went mowing once on the first lap and immediately afterwards hit a wall, and on the last lap I got 3 wheels off the track. (I meant to put this up yesterday, but for some reason didn't.)

I also use downshifts to time and initiate drifts in hairpins. It could be the jolt in the driveline or the engine braking, but downshifting at the right time sends the rear just the right amount around. At least untill I screw it up with sloppy throttle control...
