I have been playing mostly away from my console this weekend and thus I have been using my Wiimote + Nunchuck(Which I think is the best controller ever(minus GC) anyway) so I've been loving that. Now using the Gamepad and I am more than happy with it.

Got a feeling I might get a Pro Controller for my birthday so maybe I will like that in the future too. Tempted to give motion controls a shot too.

Another little tip, when playing offline beeping your horn just before the 1 appears in the race countdown, it can throw off the CPU and they will blow up.

I also really really like the Wiimote+Nunchuck (in general), but I find the GamePad almost as comfortable to use, and the map function is essential for online play. I roll my eyes at anyone who says the screen goes unused in this game, with "just a dumb horn button." @Classic, if you try motion steering I recommend trying the right stick for throttle; the A button is cramptastic, though the Y button isn't bad.

When the wife plays with me I'm letting her use motion steering on the GamePad.

Thanks for the heads-up @Wolfe 👍

The problem is, people see the touch screen on the gamepad as something that should define every Wii U game, and I think it's stupid. It's there to enhance the experience in my opinion, it's not supposed to take the flare away from the TV and likewise it isn't supposed to be a passer-by either. I quite like the functionality in this game. Natively, it should show the map though. Not sure why they opted for the horn.

Has anyone tried seeing if you can keep the map up on the Gamepad whilst playing with Wiimote + Nunchuck? Apparently that was great in Pikmin and it would be pretty badass on MK8 too.

Oh, also, I was seeing if I could do a first time 3-Star playthrough of the career...

Fell off the edge then got Blue shelled on the last lap of Piranha Plantway. :( Was gutted.

I just need them to make a Pokemon game for the Wii U, then the whole Touch Screen thing will be amazingly great. Otherwise, it's just a feature I have no use for.

In Mario Kart related stuff, I 3-starred every 50cc event so far. Apparently the credits play when you do every cup in a cc. A waste of a few minutes I won't get back today :(

Alright, I've finally got the code for the GTP vs NL Tournament so here it is: 3454-3752-1450. It's open all day on Saturdays to avoid any time complications. You can find the rules when you enter the code and find the room, but if anyone needs me to, I'll post them here. I'm really looking forward to the races we're all going to have!

Yes, my twin autistic bro fully beaten Mario Kart 8 in 2 days! I'm proud of him. Honestly the game so addicting, even I'm playing it and it's so much fun! :D Sadly I need to fix my internet to play online though. :indiff:

Who would have thought MK would be so awesome with slow-mo.

Exactly! I love watching replays in slow-mo where I snipe people online with green shells. :sly: It's actually something I wish GT had, I've had so many close finishes in NASCAR races that I would love to slow down and watch at the finish line.

I haven't played my free Wind Waker HD yet but I'd consider it the first game I have that actually "uses" the touchscreen.

I already like being able to play while my wife watches a DVD, or having a "remote control" for a YouTube jukebox I can take into the next room. Combined with the internet browser it's a great solution for watching online media (we've opted against traditional TV service), and it improves text input anytime that's needed. As a bonus for me, it makes itty bitty tiny text legible when developers presume I have a 1080p display instead of a 480i tube. My CRT's in good shape but it's not that sharp.

It's a proven concept (DS) and there are plenty of nice things it can do for games -- more than anything, I'm interested in the functionality it will lend to Project CARS this winter, between livery editing and pit-stop management -- but I'm with you, @Classic, it should be complementary, not compulsory. Off-TV play is a good thing by itself. I'm sure it's a big deal in some households.

Is anyone going to be on late tonight? I plan on doing many, many races tonight as I haven't been able to get my fill of Mario Kart this weekend due to spending it outdoors.

I have to leave for work at 2200 so I won't be on tonight but it is my Friday today so I'll be on the next few nights for sure. I've 3 starred every cup in 50cc and 100cc, I'll be making my way through 150cc as well as some online play when I get off in the morning.

I just unlocked "The Duke" which I think was 700 or 750 coins, I want to unlock the F1 style Kart because I think I'll be using that as my main.

I use the Wii Wheel, it is much more responsive and smooth than in MKWii though the Hangliding needs some work.

I find 150cc to be a bit easy after a few races. Though it is still rather fun.

@peobryant I'll use it a lot too when combined with Sponge Tyres for Larry and Azure Roller for Yoshi once I unlock the kart parts of coarse  (I got 1300 coins and still haven't unlocked them). Though I still love my Standard ATV.

@peobryant The Circuit Special was one of the first ones I unlocked. I just now got The Duke, at 1600 coins. Sounds like a few of us will be on tomorrow so I'll make sure to get things done early so we can race.

@Mega Umbreon found me in a public room earlier. 👍 We did two races and then I/we fell victim to the connection errors (no code) I've been getting all weekend. I checked a few times to see if I could join up again but it didn't offer me the option.

I'll get into all these online stuff on Wednesday. Busy with school and playing with my rage quitting brother who always comes back .

Speaking of my brother, we did a 3 race VS at GBA Mario Circuit but with the catch that we must enter the pits and stay there for 10 seconds (like a pit stop). I just uploaded them into MKTV if you want to watch (don't think I'll be putting them on Youtube though unlike my other videos).

The items have been absolutely ridiculous so far in 150cc. I've been hit by a Blue shell by the computer in 3rd place twice in the past 3 races but when I'm in third place with 10 coins guess what I get? Yeah, coins...

Other than that, damn this game is fun. It is finally my weekend so I'll be playing some online matches later today.

I done a 150cc race, didn't get hit once and only got coins.

It was so insane.

@Wolfe I think it's the servers being overloaded by new Wii U's (which is a good thing ). As for 150cc races, I keep winning 3 out of 4, and then on the 4th race I keep getting screwed over either by a blue or red shell. :banghead: Last night I had a lot of trouble online, because I kept getting combo'd left and right, it took me 45 minutes to finally win a race. That's Mario Kart for ya.
